Land Rover Discovery 2 XYZ Switch Repair

Troubleshooting Tuesday
Today we are opening up the XYZ switch on the Land Rover Discovery 2! This was actually a very simple project and only took a few minutes and a few tools. To remove your XYZ switch, you will need the following;
10mm wrench, 14mm wrench, patience.....
That is all! I took it apart to find a contact that was worn and had carbon on it. I cleaned it with electrical cleaner and a rag. We were good to go, problem solved! We will see how long this XYZ switch will last me because they are $630 from Atlantic British!!!! WHAT?!?!?!

The trans on my 2001 Range Rover P38 was dropping into limp mode and then out, once I stopped and let it set for a few minutes. Pulling the XYZ switch and cleaning it did the trick! Thank you for saving me many hundreds of dollars.

That is realistically a $50 part, thieving bar stewards want 600 bucks for it!!? Great to see guys beating the dealer with a little ingenuity and time. Keep up the good work yall.

thanks. 👍 I am going to tap out the holes instead of using rivets. I love my land rover discovery 2 it is amazing in the snow. just so sensitive with everything. I think I got lucky with mine as it is the 4.0 Bosh and not the 4.6. the 4.6 blow head gaskets and slip liners. great work and thanks again.

...the second contact runs a bit on the plastic,and drags it up. The same problem comes up with the windshield wiper motors when they stop halfway,exactly the same fix. If you would use the rivet backwards it would crack the plastic,unless you put a small washer on it. Great video! Thanks! [ I'm looking forward to do this next week on my 2000 ]

Thank you so much for this video.. Having the same problem with the lights and the rpms... basically got the old girl back home today in small intervals. Luckily always had a nice spot to pull over and reset. Going to try this soon, really glad there's a possible fix without dropping the money into a new switch. Only out 50 into the disco so far and its treated me well. Hoping this fixes the issue

Good luck. Have patience with reinstalling and getting the linkage in the perfect spot. Be sure to mark it very well before removing

Thanks we bought a hurricane Sandy Disco for my son. And it has run flawlessly for the last 6 years. I just cleaned the Trans ECU connectors and we still have this problem. I am going to try to rebuild the XYZ switch next. The connectors could be bad as it sat in salt water 6" above the doors.

Yeah I think they just get dirty and built up with years of carbon. The hard part was getting it out I think

I'm fitting a new LR part today to my l322 V8 £500.00 over here in the UK for that switch, Im going strip down my old switch and see If I can repair it, good video guys, I've watched a few now...take care and all the best from Scotland UK

Flashing sport, manual mode, and D indicator started flashing parking my rover in the garage. I drove it about 500 miles in the rain a few weeks ago.... Do you think I should disconnect the battery and reset it, and do a transmission fluid flush first?

I have a Discovery 2, but there is a bug in the transmission device and at the start the movement is slow but after 80 kilometers is working normally and there are no sounds when changing from 1 to 2 to 3 working on the car

My. Neutral alarm is stuck would this hopefully help and fix the problem ? Everything works just the neutral alarm 2 orange gears on dash won't come off but 2 low works and back to hi like nothing

Looks like 100 quid worth LR take the piss same as steering lock ridiculous price I'd use little nuts and bolts instead of rivets great video

My drive shaft came apart on the highway. When I got it home I realized that it wouldn't turn over and the key will only come out when I disconnect the battery. I have a gear box failure message but I assumed that was because the shaft is disconnected. It's a 97 range rover HSE, BTW

Do you think this could be my issue, as well? I have Park, Reverse and Neutral, but no forward gears. It had forward gears before sitting for a couple of years. And I have the trio lights but no M&S lights

Hello friend, I live in Brazil and my discovery 2 broke the harness, would you have the color scheme of the truck so I can match the position sensor? In Brazil there is no content for these trucks

The XYZ switch is located on the driver side of the transmission where the linkage attaches to the transmission. Its plastic and held by 2 small bolts and has a connector.

I am going insane. The two bolts holding the selector arm, when I try to loosen them, it feels like it's going to break the the rod. HOW THE HELL DID ANYONE GET THOSE BOLTS OFF. (holding such a fragile bendable piece) Ive sprayed the bolts etc. One of my nuts is rusty as fuck. This is wild.

I need help getting - gages but working after I to the initial in a part it was not workings are took it apart now none of my gages are working but they were working before I did this and I have no idea where to go
