It would be nice if LR had engineered the the suspension compressors to also fill the tires

Also a good a idea to have a tire plug kit on board. And I sprayed WD40 on the contact points to make it slide in a little easier along with airing down.

Good idea. Yes the tyre plug kit travels with us.

Nice looking vehicle

Thanks, not normally a fan of brown vehicles, but on the Discovery 4 this shade seems to work. Plus a few little extras help too….

Hi, thanks for the video! Could you please write down the name of the upgraded wheels? I'm looking to purchase some and alsi i'm wondering if you used any spacers or other extra elemnts for this setup. Thanks! Best, Calin
@roadlaw2 жыл бұрын
Hi Calin thanks for your comment. The wheels are Compomotive PD1881 alloys, size 18”. They were supplied by Compomotive in the United Kingdom, and are a popular after market option for the Discovery 4. Not many 18” wheels will fit, due to Land Rover increasing the brake disc dimensions relative to the Discovery 3. These wheels do fit, no spacers or lift kit necessary. Some folks do choose to add spacers and or lift kits, but if you do remember this can alter wheel and suspension geometry.

Hi there thanks for the video. When you change the tyre size did you had to do software changes too ? I’ve heard speedometer is getting incorrect output. Thanks Sahan
@roadlaw3 ай бұрын
No I did not make any changes to the speedometer. I believe you are correct, but the difference is pretty small.

Hi, can you comment how easy it is to remove the tyre if you have a flat? You must keep weight on the winch when lowering or it will break very quickly, if you are on your own this is very hard to do. Perhaps the easiest way is to lower the winch cable with no load by pulling down on the winch cable and then use a crowbar to release the tyre back onto the winch cable?
@roadlaw2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan thanks for your question. You are right in suggesting that the winch needs weight on it during lowering. For this reason it’s a good idea not to force the spare into its recess. In reality the weight of the wheel and tyre is sufficient to allow the winch to lower it without fouling the cable. This is the logic of installing the spare deflated in the cradle, so that it doesn’t snag when lowering is required. Hope this helps.

That Disco looks mint! Did you fit tyre pressure sensors in those Compomotive wheels, or disable the tyre pressure warning?
@roadlaw Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment. No tyres sensors fitted with the Compomotive wheels, and no I didn’t disable the warning ⚠️. Our 2010 XS U.K. spec Discovery doesn’t appear to be fitted with the TPMS.

Want to put some bigger tyres on your Discovery, and then wonder what to do with the new spare? It can (possibly) fit in the standard spare cradle. Watch how with ROADLAW.

did you remove the plastic guard that sits between the tyre and exhaust?
@roadlaw3 жыл бұрын
No. Not fitted to our vehicle. Maybe it was removed previously.

Hello, my question about these tires, not actually spare wheel. Do you need to trim safety stops (metal bars that is connected on the frame and located right after the front wheels, under passenger and driver floor) to fit this size (265/65/18 if I heard correctly), and do you need to trim plastic?
@roadlaw3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mocconagames thanks for your comment. No trimming has been required to fit these tyres, sized 265/65/R18. They are quite a tight fit, but so far have worked ok with no rubbing, at any suspension height setting. At full steering lock they clear everything inside the wheel arch, but we have not yet tried full suspension articulation combined with full steering lock, for example when crossing very uneven ground. We have some lift rods ready to fit if necessary……

thanks for this, what make is the roof rack please?
@roadlaw2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joshua, the roof rack is made by Prospeed in the U.K. They provide a range of accessories for the Land Rover Discovery.

Snug as a bug in a rug. nice work. also your roof rack setup is gnarly, can you share some details on that also? thanks!
@roadlaw3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for your comment. The roof rack is from Prospeed in the United Kingdom. It's a very slimline fit, beautifully made and creates little to no wind noise. Reinforced composite boards in sections can be added to make a full or partial floor covering on the rack, allowing for carriage of various items. We also have fitted a roof top tent to the rack with the addition of two crossbars, which work well. Prospeed UK have a good website for their products.

Have you removed the guard at the front of the spare tyre also to make this fit?
@roadlaw2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. Interestingly our D4 isn’t fitted with the tyre guard in the spare recess. Either that or a previous owner has removed it.
@georgejt2 жыл бұрын
@@roadlaw Ok. Definitely has been removed by someone. Good to know. Most have a metal guard that roughly mirrors the forward face of the tyre. I suspect that makes a difference on yours. I was looking at doing the same, but fitting a 255/65R19 tyre which is approx 12mm taller (overall diameter) to your tyre. Do you think you could squeeze an extra 12mm height tyre in your space ? :) Cheers.
@roadlaw2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, an extra 12mm might be a struggle. My 265/65/R18 only just fits, and that’s fully deflated. You could get a bit more in there, but the danger is you end up overloading the winch unit and cable as you wind it up into the recess. Good luck with that, I’d be interested to learn how you get on.

Ha yes James you're right! But like every good off-road enthusiast this is when you whip out your trusty onboard compressor and inflate the spare, you're in business in less than ten minutes.
