That is the best line for LR mechanics. Vera, Only drove 136kph? We just got back to Arizona after a 4 day trip through Nevada to California and I found out that the Volvo is governed at 189kph :( Such beautiful wide open roads in Nevada to drive on.

The GAP 11 is heralded to be the best aftermarket, but it is so expensive, as you mention. I bought an ICARSOFT and it was no help fixing my RRS- but the Facebook forum was! It just shows you not to believe the hype. For brake bleeding, I use my son because I can shout at him. It works.

Christian you are correct… The ABS bleed sequence is the same as a usual brake bleed by pumping/and pressure/vacuum the fluid… the ABS actuation is just to move fluid through the valve blocks and remove air. 👍

At 23 when torquing spacer if you have the torque wrench handle across the centre of the wheel you have the correct torque on the fasteners but less torque or turning moment to cause the wheel to turn. This is because the effective length to turn the wheel is from the centre of the wheel to the handle end. It's a useful trick.

I have only jacked my LR3 with my trolley jack. I have not used the suppled jack once, I hope I never need to. My son (apprentice mechanic) replaced my rear rotors & brake pads a few weeks ago, he did it at home. I just watched as he did everything. The parking brake shoes were like new, with no rust. Nothing was seized and no rust/corrosion. We don't have that issue in Australia unless you don't thoroughly wash your vehicle after driving on the beach or back into salt water when launching a boat.

I believe your channel is one of the best newer Land Rover related channels available and I hope you continue to grow exponentially. The format is excellent and entertaining and the technical detail is superb. I personally think a production company should pick you up for a TV program. There is a laugh a minute with the "German Precision" banter between you both. "OMG" haha! I was born in Germany but I have lived most of my life in Straya slang term for (Australia). Maybe you could learn some of our linguistics as a laugh. Like G'day mate! or No worries! or Crikey! Our family drive a few land rovers, RR Sport L320, RR Sport L494 and Evoque L538. We have in the past had the original discovery 2 many many years ago and it was a powerful vehicle. We used it many times 4WD on FRAZER Island here in Queensland. It did very well with it's V8 engine. I just had my Range Rover sport serviced and my wallet is crying and not talking to me currently as it is still in shock....lol All the very best from the land down under....

My pedal went clonk to the floor afterwards. Ended up using the same pressure bleeder as you and got a pedal again. From memory and I stand to be corrected. Park brake service. Tighten adjuster until 50lbft (in old money) registers on torque wrench on centre hub nut then slack adjuster 8 clicks . Any time we changed discs we serviced/cleaned handbrake shoes and/or replaced as necessary. Used Autologic to drive cables into service position so if that's not available a work around that would be an interesting video. Snap-on supplied me with a brake bleeder. Ran on 12volts and from memory pressurised the master cylinder reservoir and fluid to 5lbft (old money again!) This allowed the wife to stay at home and truly was a one person job. The low pressure avoids activating any abs shut off/bias valves. You all have good patience there. I see a Toyota in your future lol

Very entertaining and informative. I still have my 05 D3 bought new. For the last 14 years I have done most of my own servicing - often preventative. No GAP IID when I started, so still using a Nanocom Evo. That also left me confused when using the ABS service function. Many thanks for sharing Barn1e

Well done for getting the GAP tool, it will be helpful. As for the EPB, mine broke over a year ago and I haven't bothered to replace the $900 module. One of the reasons I didn't replace it is because what I consider a flaw. I got stuck in a big bomb hole at a bit of an odd angle (I was captured by a tree root underwater) but the bloody Land Rover then kept applying the EPB, which then failed. So here I am stuck in a hole with the EBP locking my rear wheels. The EPB should have released upon momentum (nope) and nor could I disengage it by taking out the cupholder and pulling up on the release cable. The only way to get going was to join the LR in the mud, carefully feel around the back of the wheel for the EPB cable and cut the buggers off with my bolt cutters on each wheel (BTW these are quite difficult to cut). I was then able to extricate myself.

Yea, that DSC procedure is ridiculous. I just went thru the same thing on my '08 BMW 750i. Ended up like you guys using a pressurized bleeder; but instead of having help pumping the pedal, I have a one-way valve on the bleeder hose. I put it on the bleeder, open the bleeder up, then pump the brake pedal myself. Way easier and no potential for divorce...well, not for that anyway. As always, a great vid and yet another encouragement for me to get an LR3. Now, if I could just find one in this crazy used car market we have going now.

I think another video where you clearly and in detail go through each step of the bleeding procedure would be helpful. Similarly, a video on a full service of epb where you dismantle, clean and put back would be useful ("everything you need to know"). These are jobs we cannot do and save $$$. The GAP tool works. The action for pumping is the same as the old method - you repeatedly push the pedal for 6 or 8 times and then you keep it pressed. At the wheel you open and close the bleed valve. Then repeat the pumping process until it tells you to move on. Vera was correct at the beginning as she wanted to pump the pedal. Good luck. How about the pesky air compressor C1A - gallery not venting fault fix for a video suggestion

Hi Christian, I don't think there is anything wrong with your front shock/airbag. It just gets a build up of dirt on the bag former because the front struts don't have a protective rubber boot. Not sure if this helps and only 9 minutes in so far. Pump usually means push pedal and release about 5 times. So in this context you push and release 5 times then hold pedal hard. Then as bleeder is opened the still pushed pedal moves downwards.

Yes we know, that is how we have always done it for 30 years now. We just expected the GAP tool to have more precise instructions. Most of our viewers, having a GAP tool, have never ever done a bleeding procedure and expect the GAP to tell them what to do. We try to include GAP content in our videos, but we are not always all that happy with that tool. However, we used it on Saturday for our alignment job, and it was absolutely perfect that we had it at hand. 👍🙋‍♀️Vera

Copper slip is only suitable for steel-steel components- copper slip on alloy-steel like you hubs and wheels it can ‘cold weld’ the wheels on👍 One note, you have the wheels off so often you probably will not have a problem but people who don’t take their wheels off at least annually could be stranded with a stuck wheel .

I had an intermittent EPB fault the last few weeks. It got progressively more frequent until 3 days ago the left parking brake stuck on. With a C2008-11 fault code for motor short to ground and the usual parking brake needs calibrated. Fitted a new actuator yesterday and still has the same fault. Every time I cleared it with my GAP tool it would come straight back. So stripped the protective sheath off the wiring loom to the and find a shirt further back up the loom. I couldn’t see anything as far as I could access. Reassembled it all after spraying the loom connectors with contact cleaner and the fault disappeared. So ran the GAP calibration for the new actuator. I hope it’s a permanent fix now lol!

As always an extremely informative video , must confess I used a vacuum pump on each wheel , large bottle filled with brake fluid on the master , started with the furthest wheel first , then after doing them then attached the gap iid for the ABS module , just found it easier doing it that way as it was just me , also used class 6 brake fluid as JLR specified , thks again for sharing and looking forward to when u change the rear disc / pads , know the gap iid has a feature where u can disable the EPB , plus may i ask what do u think of the drilled and grooved discs please as heard there supposed to be better , always fantastic getting ur option seeing ur very knowledgeable, all the best to both of u, take care 👍👍, ps, was going to post a link of the one I used but can’t post them here as for some reason they get removed by utube

Hmm, strange. I've never has a rear strut boot spilt in 640,000km on my Discos and I do plenty of off road. You missed the 2nd part of the brake adjustment, i.e. loosen the 4mm hex bolt release, tap the drum and retighten. Note the notches on brake backplate to help you locate the 2 adjustment positions of the drum for the handbrake adjustments. I find the IID tool ABS bleed to be confusing so I do a full bleed on all wheels in the old fashioned way. I think some of the problem is that GAP's (BTW its name is the Gap Eye Eye Dee tool :) first language is French as they come from the French part of Canada and sometimes their translations are a bit strange. Connect with Patrick at GAP, he's a great guy and really helpful.

No, we did that on the rear left wheel, and then there was a big argument between Christian and me that he forgot it on the rear right side. Did you watch the video till the end?😅👍And he, of course, has done that on the rear ride side also, off camera. I always win. 💪 🙋‍♀️Vera

apparently having a scan tool to bleed the Abs is just for the fronts and its to remove the air inside so you will have to wait for the air from the abs to the calliper..
