In this episode, I return to Kent with a 6m trailer on the back of the X5 to pick up the Landy and take it back to Germany.
I set off on Friday and plan to tidy the garage and load up the Land Rover ready for an early start on Sunday morning.
I am lucky with the weather and we have sunshine the entire weekend. The trip is a 2,000 kilometer (1,200 miles) round trip and I make it back in one piece.
I hope you enjoy the video and as always, thanks for watching.

I think the reason you had such ‘normal' mileage values on the way up is that the extra load was offset by the lower speed. Also: a flat bed like that produces very little drag, unlike towing an extra bricky car.

Cool, thanks. I am still amazed how well that car pulls. I love it.

Dresden's a lovely place!! You're very lucky to be based out there! You're pulin more weight on the way to England but you're driving slower so less drag. Fuel will be the same. It's going to drink it on the way back isn't it? ;)

Yes, very true. The car did really well on the way back. It is designed to pull horse boxes!

Loving this series, fantastic garage in Germany, room for plenty more Landrovers later on 😀 Really inspires me through my Series III project which is about halfway now. Will look forward to more videos to come 👍👍

Williams Osteopathy, thanks for the message. Inspiration is often very important as it can be a slog at times. I felt like this about half way through especially when the gearbox was not going well. Keep going and enjoy the journey. Regards Joël

My911 Hey Joel, I know what you mean regarding the gear/trans box. I finished mine a few months ago, glad it’s now done. I am on to the engine build now, The galvanised chassis bulkhead etc is all in position. Brake and lines , axles all rebuilt and fitted. Regarding the bodywork I’ve taken off all my galvanised hardware ready for panel fitting and paint in the spring but like yours it might be quite nice to leave some of the battle scars that it has incurred over the years ☺️. Cheers Stu

My911 unfortunately not Joel, not too au fait with videoing, most of the time it would be spent videoing the floor haha. Plenty of pics of the process to help get me out of trouble later on in the build when I end up with 30 things left over I don’t know where they go ☺️😂. How readily available are series parts in Germany?

I just use UK suppliers. A friend of mine here has a 2a and has managed to pay astronomical sums for his parts. So I introduced him to some of my suppliers...

Whilst a tad late, word of warning if you get pulled up with a trailer plated at 3,000 kg if the vehicle towing it isn’t rated at or more than that you’ll be done for being overweight by VOSA even if you are not towing more than your max allowed 2,300 kg for the X5 you are considered as towing 3,000 kg will have to uncouple and return with a vehicle rated for the trailer

Great series of videos, the Land Rover is looking well. Had the same problem with parabolic springs from the same supplier, it was quite disappointing to find my Land Rover leaning to one side within a few months of fitting them.

@@My911 I just notched it up to experience and the Land Rover listed to one side for the rest of the time I owned it. I had fitted them in correct sequence, right torque settings.but it was frustrating after putting the energy into changing them, as it leaned that much it looked a bit daft.

@@My911 Maybe mix and match the two pairs to get the most even pair? What a painful job though!

Going to miss that incomer noise 😜good to see the old girl on her way home. I spent most of the day doing some jobs on the P38 Range Rover, very cold out 😱 Ref the front springs, correct me if I'm wrong, but are the part numbers different for passenger / drivers side, I'm sure I went through this hassle when I fitted mine.
@My911

Hi Chris, Yes, definitely getting colder out. The springs are not sided according to Paddocks and the maker. They are the same calibre both sides, which is the problem. The drivers side needs to be stiffer to account for the additional weight of the transfer case, fuel tank and driver. Other brands offer sided springs for this reason, but sadly not paddocks.
@paulfiler5100

The springs maybe sided try swapping them the drivers side should be slightly higher to accommodate the driver sat in it..
@My911
@My911 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, yes, I have tried that (next video) and still the same. The springs are just not very good sadly.

@@My911 that's a bummer.. leaf springs are always a gamble.. you never really know what your gonna get till it's on..

@@My911 I was going to say it might be a spring shackle seized/pinched in place while the spring was partially compressed. If you have since removed the springs and replaced on the other side, then that's highly unlikely. My car has front parabolics and they sit even. The rear springs are original and very, very tired. The mudflaps virtually touch the ground with any sort of load in the back. When I get around to fixing/replacing the chassis I will fit rear parabolics then.

She's looking good, Was this recorded last year? Glad you've had the perseverance to complete the project. I was beginning to wonder what was happening and I've seen a couple of land rover youtube projects start well only to fizzle out . ( Im not pretending its easy to complete a restoration.... Its not)well done

Hi Fin, I started filming the entire restoration from 2015 onwards and began uploading videos in February last year. I am now up to summer last year and still going strong. And the project is still not finished now. So many more videos to come.
