In this full episode from 1988, Dave Quinton looks for signs of spring in the month of May in Newfoundland. It's the start of the fishing season and farmers and loggers also hope for fine weather so they can start their work.

I'd wonder if this way of life still exists up in Newfoundland or if this is now just a historical memory.

It’s a largely a historical memory now. The old way of life is gone.

Why do so many of these fishermen in these interviews wear Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) Union hats ?

They used to give out hats like that. Sometimes in your mail or if you bought a newspaper, that sorta thing, as a type of advertisement. Fisherman need to cover their faces and heads or they’d be sunburnt within 3-4 trips out. (Edit: This is according to my grandfather. I’m only 30, I don’t remember)
