For those who are not familiar with EWR this is a rarely used runway. Only on rare occasions will you see a plane land on it

Not true. I see it a lot, and I pass EWR very often. In fact I'm seeing it as I'm typing this reply. What's rare are planes approaching it from the south. They almost always come from the north and turn right near the Newark Bay Extension. I have only seen them coming from the south (and turning left) to this runway once in the last few decades.

I love how the highway goes parallel with the runway. I was lucky to “race” a BA 777 landing while leaving NYC 😃

I've seen 767 landing there. Now a 777. Very cool. I took off once on R29. It was a 737 I think.....Long time ago.

That's the "Stadium" visual approach to runway 29. Used mostly only on windy (Winter) days.

Really special landing with a i presume united 777 landing on runway 29. Would recommend you adding those details to the title and description. Its definitely a rare combo for youtube.

Nice quality video, and beautiful weather conditions. A smooth flight, too. I was on a flight that landed that same runway/direction at least one times, but recall a bit more bobbing and weaving, and being a little further east, closer to the Hudson River.

I drive truck on the jersey pike alot one recent windy day had arrivals using that runway,so my thinking is that's the windy day,approach departures were to the north parallel with the highway no expert here but that's,my thinking

Stadium visual approach, but strange how you landed on runway 29. Might have been a windy day, but doesn't look like much turbulence on approach.

I only meant turbulence on approach in Jersey. Looks like there is some crosswind. Judging by runway 29 in use, there was probably quite a bit of crosswind since neither of the 4/22 runways are closed.

slapshot68 most flights land on 4R/22L. Only on days when it’s very windy or with a main runway outage is 29/11 used. Can’t be certain what is going on in this video but it’s still rare to land on 29. Wondering wind speed and direction at Newark or if one of the main runways was closed.

@@ecoRfan I live right near the airport. They only open this runway on very windy days, so its a good bet thats why the others were closed.

2020 things changed. Their partner airlines still go so I hope they resume EWR to HKG flights soon. Airfare to HKG is also much higher for now.

Must have been strong winds from the west for them to land on 29. usually the winds are from either the SW or NE.

Yup, that's the procedure for 29. As a passenger it seems like you'll be landing on 22L and then all of a sudden you're turning 😂

Holy junk that is a late “prepare for landing PA.” They’re at 500 feet AGL over the bridge and the announcement finishes up telling people to start preparing for landing - and on a heavy? Usually the FA’s have to still walk through the cabin to verify compliance with the announcement. I feel like on the flights that I’m on, they do this 20 minutes out.

Nice view, but that's no 777. You'd never see an engine sitting outside your window unless you were seated in Row A of a rear-engine plane like an MD-88 or CRJ. Heavies rarely if ever use Runway 29 because it's the shortest one in EWR.
