@@marcushennings9513 True indeed and a person who is able to work should be required to work, I understand elderly people or people with handicaps may have some limits, but too many young ladies having all these babies need to get off their backs and get to work and should be given a limited amount of time 3 yrs to be eligible to have that voucher, they also should be required to take money management and budgeting classes in order to be in the program that way they can be prepared to switch over to paying full market price but they spending all their money on designer clothes and hair and nails. Yes I have a few nice designers clothes but I work Dam hard for it and the government doesn't support me I work for mine and budget and plan so I can buy what I want and I don't waste my money on hair and nails because I have to pay property taxes so I do my own hair and nails. . I lived on it for about 5 years until I didn't need the help anymore. while I was on it I not only had a walkthrew before and after I moved out. but I had a yearly walkthrew to make sure everything was still in working order. when I moved out the only damage I caused was window blinds in the kids room. not bad for 5 years of residency. and I got all of my deposit back.

Depends on the state. Some states won't let Section 8 tenants behave like this. The rental is inspected by the state before rented...if the tenant messes it up or destroys THEY MUST FIX IT and/or they will forfeit any future consideration for section 8 housing...This truly helps the landlords who provide decent housing and who are not just slumlords.

My neighbor brought 3 waterfront homes side by side and gave two of them too her sons the homes were paid off. Since one of the sons already had another house in another state he decided to mortgage the home twice. Once all the equity had been taken out of the homes he went and signed up behind the HOA’s back and applied to sponsor section 8 tenants. He moved out n a whole family of felons and I mean the mother and five kids all had felonies on their records. They started stealing immediately and would go into our homes when people went to work. We all were so frustrated with the behavior of the kids and they terrorized our elderly that would take frequent daily walks by showing the sign of them slicing their necks. During one of our HOA meetings I asked the other owners if anyone had spoke with the mother and obtained a negative response from those present. So the next day I spoke to the mother about the kids stealing bikes and the strangers showing up constantly and going to their house. She said she would address it, but of course it only got worse. Since I am a retired veteran I started sitting out in my garage and taking videos of all the crimes they were committing. My neighbors were to afraid to because of previous threats the whole family participated in. After 3 years and multiple police visits they were finally evicted but they stayed for an additional 6 months after receiving notice. During that time I confronted the mother again and she and her thug children threatened me, so I would sit in the garage and clean my weapons and told them if they came into my home they would leave in a bag. Finally once they were out the total damage the mother had to repay to fix the home ended up being over $15 K. Some people will never leave the ghetto and insist on bringing it into the suburbs when they didn’t have to. Be aware of what individuals move into the space that you place your loved ones in.

Years ago I was in construction and subcontracted work and countless times I would be called to do repairs and clean up rentals just as we see in this video. This work kept me busy but I found it frustrating that within a year of all the repairs That were done I would be called back to the same resident only to do the work all over again. The reason I stopped doing this was the neighborhoods that this work was done in. I had to hire people to watch the work trailer so I had tools to do the work.

*We manage over 500 rentals and take Section-8* but it is getting tough, the system has been lowering rental amounts so that the owners are being asked to take less than they got over 4 years ago. I think the housing investigators who come out to the rental homes and apartments once a year should check to see if the tenant deserves to be on the system. It is incredible how many healthy able bodied people *who could work* ...do not, they cheat the system and get away with it.
@otheraccount6803
@otheraccount6803 Жыл бұрын
That can't be real. There is a housing market. All section 8 is dictated by the area There is a set amount that adjust with the economy. Even if landlords got less from section 8. Then the tenants have to supplement the change. That's why of a tenant moves or get a different sized unit their and section 8 portion of the rent changes. The rent in and of itself and the amount received by the landlord does not change. Rent has to stay within a legal dictated amount for they area. The only way they would be paying less is if you were greeding and over charging above the average of that size unit in your county or area of your specific state Do you have a way to prove you are a landlord and have that many properties? It's an awfully large specific and even number And it sounds like you have not seen any section 8 paperwork since like 97

The last section 8 tenants I rented to caused over $32,000 in damages causing me to have to take out a personal loan (for repairs) and sell the home for $40,000 less than I bought it for cuz I ran out of money options to repair it further. They stole the appliances and even stole the toilet and water heater. They broke into the home multiple times while it was being repaired and stole the worker's tools, equipment and anything of value. Let that be a lesson never to rent out your property to people, (not just section 8) but to anyone. If you have an extra property, just sell it and pay off your primary mortgage. Get out of the rental "business" and let these self entitled leeches whine and complain when rent prices skyrocket due to a lack of supply.

B Alan Eisen Would you rent to a section 8 if they had a good to excellent track record, you know kept their homes clean and tidy ? I came into a hardship 5 years ago and I have a disability that keeps me from steady employment, well I lost everything including my home and had to live outta my car for entire winter in Minnesota, not fun and pretty frightening at times. I've never been homeless in my 45 years but I was now and came from good hard working parents who have since pasted away. Anyways I found help through another agency who pay for my rent and utilities until I can get my social security, some one took a chance on me and I've been in the same apartment for the past 5 years with no complaints and I take care of my apartment it's always picked up and clean. Would you rent to some one like me . . their are good people and we need help too, it's frightening to know that you could be turned down because of past tenants and their lack of morals.

As uncomfortable as it is, it is important to do walk-throughs of your property when you have tenants. I have learned a very expensive lesson in that way. No one cares how much the landlord is out financially, because everyone assumes people who own property are rich. Nothing could be further from the truth.

i think if we argued for a stipulation in the section 8 program, that made the government liable for any repair/rehab cost to the property after the tenant moved out, that would change the whole ball game. This guy is right, WE are the ones paying for the rental fees, WE should have a right to demand that the homes are respected & taken care of. And he's right about the fact that if someone can't afford rent, there is going to be no point in suing for damages, because they most likely have no money. If we could do this it would be cheaper for the agencies providing the voucher to perform periodic checks, than to be on the hook for hundreds (or in many cases, thousands) of dollars. I would believe that the majority of section 8 recipients do take care not to damage the places they are renting, but even if if it is a small percentage don't take care of, and KEEP CLEAN, it still totals a large number of people. My parents taught me as I was coming up, you respect something you worked for much more than something given to you. And to this day, I believe that.

Linda Haynes I agree. I had a friend who was a rental property manager in a upper income apartment complex and she would relate how absolutely messy the tenants were, and this happened even prior to moving out of the space. This is what I shared: This is a new media propaganda, nationwide, to provide a negative reflection of Section 8 tenants. The next step is the government will cut all aid and people will agree, but the reality is MANY tenants leave homes, hotel rooms, rental cars, and various other places in a horrible mess. I have noticed this message is being spread across the nation on various local news programs. Listen, who governs the media? Money. Who provides the money? Companies. Who provides money breaks for the companies so that they gain more money? Gov. Watch out, for this is a ploy to unleash financial breaks for the wealthy while dismissing the poor.

For the stress collecting rent, repairs, damages, roofs, water tanks, new rugs (again!) and finally LACK of appreciation on the house price, and not to mention the deterioration of the neighborhood from you know who. You're supposed to screen a tenant before you rent to them. It does not matter if their income is from section 8, or if their parents are paying their rent, their sibling, or if the renter is a minority or gay/lesbian. What this news article is not mentioning is these tenants were not screened and the landlord did not know about their previous rental history or if there were any previous complaints made against them. I have had tenants that were not on section 8 or using a co-signer and they still trashed my properties. I got smarter over the years though and now screen each tenant, their rental history, etc... and no longer have issues, no matter where their source of income, age, lifestyle. There are also services that help landlords with this process now. It's not like it was years ago.

This is nothing, Mr. Landlord. I rented to a tenant that I ended up having to evict. This was a newly renovated apartment. New floors, paint, switches, appliances, etc. We rented to both section 8 and market value renters. These tenants punched holes in the walls and ceiling. Left animal feces and nasty dirty diapers, garbages, and I mean garbage all over the unit. Bugs, new carpets destroyed. Unspent bullets on the floor and a couple of young marijuana plants in the bathroom sink. Oh, broken screens and doors off the hinges. It was really sad and disgusting.

I decided not to rent for Section 8 since I lost more money to fix a broken front door, newly installed bathroom sinks and window blinds, floors(I wonder how to destroy it without special tools), damaged paint on the wall, hideously stinky garbage bins, and small backyard had turned into a stinky small garbage mountain. Landlords can protect themselves and their property by taking a photo of their units after it's been remodeled/repaired, do a walk around with the tenant before renting when the tenant leaves if the property isn't the way in the video or damaged, then the owner can take them to court, but the laws should be changed, If the property is damaged/destroyed then the renter shout be cut off from any future Sec8 housing.
