My Eero 5 pros worked amazingly for many years until they didn’t. Tried the Deco AXE5300 pack from Costco and it was just garbage from the get go. The Deco auto sensing ports worked like garbage. Satellites would have very poor signal and drop connection from the main unit, despite Ethernet backhaul for one and the other one close by via wireless. Couldn’t get most of my smart devices to connect. After a painful day of messing with Deco units, went back to Costco and bought the Google Nest WiFi pro. Everything worked instantly from the get go, and all devices and satellites worked instantly. It was amazing how everything just worked flawlessly . One more thing about the Deco app - while trying to sett up the first time, the Deco app logged me out due to Face ID, said it detected too many logins while I was trying to set up. It forced a 30 minute timeout!!! No way to bypass. I had to create a new TP-Link account just to try to complete set up. What a total nightmare!! The Deco units are absolute garbage in my experience.

I love what you do for all of us in testing all of these devices. I do however wish you would test them using 2.4 and 5ghz devices. Many of us have smart home devices that still run on 2.4.

Agreed. It could stand to reason that perhaps the older devices would perform comparatively (I would imagine just slower but still), but yes hard to say that for sure without actual tests.

I bought the x75 based on a few reviews and I was initially impressed. But then the issues began surfacing and now matter how much I wanted to like and keep it, I returned it after 10 days. The speeds were very good for web browsing and downloads and the app is actually OK. My first problem surfaced when my smart things devices would not connect. I disabled some options like seamless, beam, etc and tried various bands with no luck. I was willing to let this pass and just leave an old router online to support the smart things devices until a bigger problem came up. The speed between the access points is completely unacceptable. A did multiple small test backups between 5-10 gig from my PC to a NAS and it took over an hour... and yes the access point at the NAS could consistently got 800+ mbs to the internet across the mesh. This same backup took about 3-4 minutes using my old Google mesh setup -- no matter what changes I made, I couldn't get the backup to go in less than an hour. After some googling about the issue it appears to be quite common. Knowing this I was forced to return it. I really did like it, but the performance between access points needs a lot of work. Maybe I'll try tp link again when wifi 7 comes out.

@@MrPontiac005 I got the nest wifi pro even though it's about 10 percent slower all around. I really did like the X75 better. It had a better interface, more flexibility and options, etc., but the slow transfer speeds to the server and the lack of compatibility with smart things hub was a deal breaker for me. I think the backups may have been because I was going through 3 points to get to the server -- ap2>mainap1>ap3.

@@jamiewhite1515 I wound up getting TP-Link Omada setup with ER-605 router, and 3 wireless APs along with the Omada HW controller. All back haul is wired cat6. It's basically a small commercial setup, but actually costs about the same as the x75 at the time I purchased and is MUCH more configurable. So far it's doing well. If you are familiar with networking, I would recommend it -- definitely not for the average consumer user who expects plug and play.

I just bought the TP-Link Deco XE75 and it's working out great. I had Deco S4 previously. For comparison, my old speeds were 125-250 Mbps throughout the house. Now, it's 250-500 Mbps, basically double. Range seems better, zero dead spots. I debated with Eero, but since my previous Deco was fairly solid, ended up staying with TP-Link.

I bought the Nest WiFi Pro and the Deco. I returned the Nest because, same as your review, the speeds in wireless backhaul are not even close. 800-900Mbps on the Deco using 6Ghz band exclusively for backhaul and 300-400Mbps on the Nest Pro. The latency was much worse on the Nest as well. Only thing that the Google Home app has that Deco is missing is testing the speed coming from your modem. Deco has this generic speed test on the phone that's useless to me as you can use any website or app for that.

I just did the opposite. I bought Deco AXE5300 from Costco (3 pack), had issues from the get go. The auto-sensing ports on the Deco didn’t work very well, and couldn’t detect or get ISP internet in an Ethernet extension from the modem. Then after setting them up, one satellite with Ethernet backhaul and one wireless, I had very poor range and speeds. Many devices could not connect, and I couldn’t use many devices such as light bulged, cameras, or smart irrigation system. I tried setting up 4 different times with different options and nothing would fix it. I went back to Costco to buy the Google Nesr Wifi Pro 6e to try. After I got home, both of the Deco satellites were reporting offline, just terrible. The Google nest pro took just one time to set up, and instantly all of my devices connected with strong WiFi signals. Everything worked flawlessly and super fast. Total night and day difference between Nest and Deco. I’m going to return the piece of garbage Deco and keep the Nest. What a pain with Deco!! I will never trust Deco products again.

Sure, I can't remember what I said in the video, but eero doesn't have free parental controls. You need a separate subscription to get oarental controls. I may have said the deco has parental controls included because you don't need to pay for it to use it, it comes with a decent amount of controls without a subscription If you want more advanced controls, then deco has more advanced parental controls if you pay for their subscription.

Eero Secure (Subscription Service): • All features of Eero Basic. • Advanced Content Filtering: You can block inappropriate content by category and filter websites. • Ad Blocking: This feature helps reduce ads from websites and apps. • Insights and Activity: You get detailed insights into internet usage and history across connected devices. • SafeSearch: Enforces the safe search setting on search engines to help filter out explicit content in search results. • VIP Support: Prioritized customer support.

But since I already have a 25ft cable running from my modem to my old router. Ill change it up and use the first router connected to the modem at 3ft and then connect my other node via wired since the cable is already there. What's funny is at the prices these are going for, there are some amazing PoE WAP's available, personally prefer a dedicated router and dedicated WAP's as they tend to preform much better but that also comes from me installing them day in and day out..... That said the TP-Link is the way to go if your going this route, especially if you want to be able to expand further down the line the deco don't have a limit on Ethernet connected nodes (the other two might be able to as well but I write them off automatically because I value some data privacy).

The main part where the wifi will be is downstairs but I have an ethernet port in my room upstairs. Does that count as wired backhaul If I plug the second mesh to that? Is that basically the same as running a cord without actually running the line.

Did you notice any of them performing better than any others in penetration tests?
@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
No problem. From these three I'm still thinking the Deco's wireless backhaul will outperform but at that point I would use the 6GHz as the dedicated backhaul so it would be using a combination of the bands to provide wireless backhaul. Granted just as a heads up, Netgear Orbi RBKE963 would be better suited for these types of situations granted this thing comes with a hefty price tag.

Would be interested to know what is your actual test environment when you test the wireless back haul. If you are placing the ap within line of sight the result would not reflect real world use. Even with 5ghz across the room, the speed drops to 100-200 mbs. I find it hard to believe at 6ghz back haul in real world condition you can get close to gigabit performance. Most people would use this on different floors.

Which one of these mesh allows you to name 2.4 and 5.0 with different names? The reason is when you buy one of those light bulbs or outlets that only work on 2.4 it's easier to pick the 2.4 by name to connect. If both are named, the same router will try to make it connect to 5.0 which will not work. I know some routes let you use different names, and some don't. Do you have a list of which router or mesh system lets your name each 2.4 and 5.0 different. I know my EA9500 linksys does but the guest network no longer works so look for new router or mesh. Had the XE75 Pro 3 pack in the UK to go with my 900/900 near gigabit line . Upgraded from a 3 Pack M9 Deco. Positives for the XE75 Pro was slightly better range that the M9s ( all units in same place ) dont have 6e devices so on 6Htz backhaul and on AX210 Intel wifi on laptop fastest wifi speed was about 800mbs ( Main unit ). But found the system buggy, got hit by DFS radar strikes alot ( 160htz band ) so kept knocking the satellite's out. Basically hardware good but firmware support is terrible. TP link have a single person on firmware who only works Tuesdays for the whole world 😥, Very Very slow firmware updates. Returned to Amazon and went back to my Deco M9 plus, not fully using my my gigabit currently but more stable which is more important. The safest thing to do with any mesh/router system is to get a VPN on your computer, then everything is encrypted either way. My preferred VPN is ExpressVPN but I don't always use it.

Exactly the video I have been waiting for. Thanks! I am invested in the Google nest and Amazon Ring ecosystem and want the matter hub to connect my google nest and Amazon RING devices via a single app (Apple Home Kit or Google Home) so the Google wifi 6E seems to be a good choice but there are other better choices for a matter hub i.e Google Nest Hub Max which I own. Google will also update matter on all their devices via a firmware update this year. My question is should I go for Wifi 6E or waite a few months and go for Wifi 7 which will be announced at CES in January. Deco has already announced their Wifi 7 router. I want to get something that I dont have to upgrade in the next 5 years.

Good analysis, but I strongly disagree with range estimates here because when speed falls down to single digits, wifi is useful for email only. You should not consider any distance where speed goes below 25 Mbps both up/down. That is a safe speed to avoid buffering when streaming or Zoom / MS Teams meetings. Walls, big mirrors, plumbing, and other obstructions can significantly reduce range. Your ISP speed may vary greatly at different times of the day. This is our experience from installing over 5000 WiFi routers / APs in condominiums and HOAs.
@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
Thanks! You are correct at those low speeds it's not super usable however that's not really the only reason I do the range tests. Range tests are a great way to compare 2 or more routers to each other, since I display the numbers you can stop when the speeds become unusable. It gives you all the vital information and more. Now some people have requested I do range tests as well since they have detached garages or horse stables and want to know if they can connect a camera somewhere. The other issue with range is that it can vary greatly by location if there are obstructions, so this to me is a good indicator. I'll just say I believe range tests are important but it's not a fun test to do lol.

I think the biggest piece missing in landpet review is the speed test on main router vs satellite routers. You have a sort of speed test with a range but that doesn't tell you if was per router or on 1 or 2 satellites. Also, would like to see how the mesh configuration affects the speed from each satellite connecting to main router vs daisy chaining routers. I think some brands do it one way over other.
@landpet
@landpet Жыл бұрын
I show the speed test on the main router vs the satellite, that's the wired and wireless backhaul tests. The single router test is me testing it from the main router, the wired and wireless backhaul tests are tested next to the satellites. Daisy chain speeds should get worse in theory, vs the satellites connecting directly to the main router.

could be a number of things. 1. too close to other electronics, such as TV, receiver or even appliances.
