A 1993 RPG by Westwood Studios. General Midi files being played on Roland Sound Canvas VA SC-55 mode. Tracks that included a loop point have been looped once. The previous upload also had some stray notes and sound issues, which hopefully aren't present now. Some short jingle-esque tracks have been omitted.

Westwood Studios were magicians! They helped develop our imagination when we were young. Frank Klepacki influenced my musical journey. All this is firmly rooted in my heart.

Man, one of the greatest MIDI soundtracks I've ever heard. I boot the game sometimes just to hangout in lower Opinwood and bop to that beat.

Wow never heard on this board before. I have to admit I've become so enamoured with the sound blaster/GM sounds it's hard for me to appreciate the more expensive sounding version of the music. The 8-bit version has a charm that's lost here.

the Adlib OPL sounds very charming indeed... I'm having the same issue with Ravenloft games, I prefer how OPL sounds but I can't figure out Dosbox settings to get the best sound of it, there's always some weird trebly notes hanging at times, I don't remember hearing those before

You can change the midi settings by going into the game's setup. This is rather difficult to do in DosBox, however. Your best bet is to just copy a configuration file that already has the General Midi option selected.

This really goes to show how incredible of a musician Klepacki is. There are so many MIDI songs from the 90s, so many modern day re-creations or inspirations from it, and this album is probably still top 3 or 5 of all time. I have 0 nostalgia for this game because i never owned or played it, and im still 100% immersed and listening to it twice in a row. This is as good as Heroes of Might and Magic and Age of Wonders.

@@siberianflow1326 How is this everyone's favorite? I really don't get it. It's not even suitable for an epic RPG. It's more fit for an elevator or for a telephone on-hold loop. 7:30 Geron Arbroath, 32:06 Vile Witch Poisoning, 1:05:54 The City of Yvel: now THESE are great tunes for an RPG.

@@aaaab384 because the Lower Opinwood tune is pure magic. It has such a happy, feel good, wandering through a fairy tale forest full of wonders vibe to it. I put it on now and I'm transported into these joyful moments from my childhood. Like someone else said it, I listen to it on walks sometimes on a loop. Frank Klepacki is a magician indeed. That being said, people have different tastes, I get it, it's cool!

Generic Internetter If you want the game, you can get them on GOG as a bundle with the 2 other games in the series. That’s how I first played them.

These were indented to be played on Roland MT-32. I love the soundtrack. Do you think you would manage to record those through Roland MT-32? Munt emulator should achieve this.

Although I haven't read anything definite, most people seem to be under the impression that it was composed for SC-55. Kyrandia: Hand of Fate was another 1993 release and Klepacki composed that one for GM. It does sound great on both devices. I already have a Munt mt-32 recording, that I haven't uploaded, but the tracks aren't named so it would still take some effort to make a video. I'll see when I have time.

@@syllogism I agree that some tracks sound marvelous in your SC-55 upload but I am 100% positive that White Tower 2 is superior on MT-32. It would be great to have both soundtracks to compare side by side. Thank you for your effort.

@@miracleflame I think what happened was that Mr. Klepacki composed the OST first with the SC-55 module, and ended up extending a few of the tracks (most noticeably, White Tower 2 and The Siege) as he was converting it for MT-32 and Adlib instrumentation.

This is amazing! Thanks! How did you get the original MIDI files? I have a copy of the game, but don't know how to get the midi files out of it. :/

The midi files (or XMI midis) are within the .pak files, mostly music.pak. You'll have to use a tool that can find and extract them. I used Nova Software Extractor 2.4. Alternatively I can upload the midis. (edit: I may have had to split the extracted files to get some of the individual tracks)

Good soundtrack, but it's not like this one doesn't have some audio problems too, it's way too quiet.

Roland sound canvas midis are a bit quiet as you are supposed to adjust the volume on your device to avoid sound clipping issues. The volume seems fine on my desktop amp and phone however.

@@syllogism Yup, I just need to remember to turn the volume way down before changing video to avoid blowing my speakers, hehe :) ...in any case, it's fantastic soundtrack, thanks for uploading!
