The reason for the black point is on account of your optics being in the middle to far distance, and as you are not grounding the image with foreground interest... you need to find a scene that will have a black point in to to help ground the image and draw the eye in, with out which... the pano is a little lifeless and can be confusing. The close up foreground type shooting with wider angles defeats my output purposes for doing them and moreover when you try multi row with wider lenses, with or without a focus stack!- Oh my! I am currently looking at Hasselblad H6D100C with the HTS1.5 TS adapter which would be incredible. Re the whire solver border around my images. The images that i proce, when finished, carry a three canvas white border which I deliberately apply in PS, to state - "THE IMAGE IS FINISHED" and to not mess around with it at a later date. I generally do all my post on the same day, so as to replicate what i saw as near as I can. I leave the canvases on there mostly, as these are the final images. I leave the white canvas around there for printing, and giving my printer some options for be spoke prints at size. There is sufficient data at 200MP in the images to allow me to go crazy. I appreciate you noticing though and mentioning it. If however you are talking pre export into PS, then yes I agree! I really appreciate your feedback Guy. The very only reason that you would need ot do vertical would be if you are printing at Curator Standards, very large, and required the data for curator standard print resolution. Hi William - I am sorry if you have asked this before and i missed. Apologies. I know that Adobe suite is expensive, but it is good, and better value when you use more than just one application. One application which is a free one, is Affinity Photo, but you may have to sacrifice some functionality with it. There is also Capture one - which is incredible, but expensive. Hey Adam 5D - yep you are right about the parallax at middle to far distance. It was never meant to be a VLOG and I just turned the opportunity to showing the 'generals' about Parallax and convergence with Panos. Wherever the subject sits, its a good habit to get into. You will find however that of you apply the nodal point test to a 160mm lens, there is some correction still required (if you were to introduce a foreign subject as your nodal line, if you can overcome the plane of focus/ OOF, albeit very slight. I didn't go into that in the vid, as - as i said, was never mean to be a vid. LOL I was pleased with the images though, the one of them, gaining a National Geographic award, which is always humbling feedback. I printed this one at 17:58 @ 1.8m on the long edge for a gallery recently and i must say - its stunning that big, on nice Cotton Rag to 16BIT and to archival standards = ) I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. Im sory there - I appear to have missed your comment until now. Apologies! ON a subject that is p;laced far away and there is little 3 dimensional depth... probably not. If in this instance - you identify your hero piece (this case the mountains) - focus on that as nothing performs better with glass than a correctly focused plane of focus. Because Im shooting at f11 up and the focus plane is in that middle to far distance plane - the focus distance is on one tiny little click back from infintiy which would allow me to capture stars... if i was into that. Thanks Paul. That was a 'slam the brakes on' in the car moment and had to shoot it. The time lent itself to doing the Pano vlog too which i always wanted to do. I love the landscape after it has poured with rain as you get some real rich drama in the colours, as everything has just been washed. Nice and clean! Hey Simon - All depends on the scene and what the comp dictates. Looking through the website images, which have 'made it' are in the region of 2-2.6:1. I was thinking after the vid that that 4 shot horizontal Pano at 50% overlap on 645 (or 4:3 format) is actually 8:3 ratio. HI Santino. Thanks very much. The Nodal rail, or slider I have is MENGS 300mm Arca Swiss standard, rail. It is too long for my shorter lenses, but one slider does all of them, whichis fantastic. It doesnt have the cold shoe on top, which some of them have. I prefer not to have this so as to give you full versatility. There are many versions available all of which should be fully compatible with Arca type shoe attachments. There are shorter ones and longer ones (up to 400mm) available on ebay for instance. Hi Max. For my vlogging camera or main rig? The tripod I use for the main set up is actually a component tripod which has a big 'Bowl head configuration as well as the ball head platform. I have never actually contemplated using the fluid head for shooting stills TBH

Hey@@marcusmurray5440 - you can get away with 30%, less even, but as i say there is more data match with a bigger overlap and hence wont get stretching and introduction of parallax error as much particularly shooting with your 35mm. Try them and see. 5-% has always been my go to as its easy to note your starting point and where your 50% is in frame, should you need it shot it again. There is also the maths of format which ill cover off in another video at some point. Ewan

@@marcusmurray5440 - Absolutely. Not sure what you are shooting with though 4/3s C size FF/ MF? I have done Panos with my 300 on FF which is 240mm FF equiv and they work well. If you are going to try Panos with such a long lens, the detail you are punching in on will be incredible, but for the image to work, you do need shape in your frame to give it some oomph! Hey Mike, You can do either I will only do that when i need the vertical real estate or if (by doing this) you shoot with a longer focal length to in closer to get more detail out. Generally, a two shot horizontal pano will equate to a 5 or 6 shot vertical, creating more pixels. The only thing i would ask would be ... why would you need so many pixels. I print up to 2.4m on the mong edge and only need to shoot vertically when my images are printed to this size. Hopr this help? Thanks for your question! = ) Ewan

That is an idea indeed Lee but i had always (possibly wrongly) assumed that these were to correct more than one axis ' PA (which of course the Multi rows would be). I would still encounter the nodal point error though without the rail as well. It starts getting complicated real quick. LOL. @@EwanDunsmuirImages there's nodal ninja, RRS packages that offer dedicated tools for such purposes. The nodal offset distances for horizontal and vertical axis lens calibration for specific lens/focal length. But then, it can really slow you down when taking multiple pano tiles 😀

RRS does have a very good tutorial for determining the optimal nodal distance for any lens/body combo. Search the video tutorials for "no parallax point" by Really Right Stuff and they explain really well. Cheers

Hi there, each lens and each focal length is different, which is why i guess it (1/3 way down lens) There is a way you can actually set your nodal point by doing a test, which i have given you a link for here. My approach is that moving your camera to rotate roughly around the nodal point is still much better than sinply rotating it around the camera body otself. Hello there. I try to make sure that my images have a black point, or near to a black point as visually (when printing and hanging large panos) your image requires some 'depth to its dynamic range which helps, ground the image visually. As long as your tripopd is level, you can get away with your camera not being on exactly the same plane, as long as you are willing to 'converge correct' or 'puppet warp' in PS during your post processing workflow. Keeping the camera absolutely level is easier, but then you have to shoot at a wider focal length to get the frame you require, and then crop in. Hope that helps! Regards, Ewan

I usually do use a remote Greg, but yes, the platform is so stable, I could quite easily never use one. Although a couple of these images will end up on the website for sale, if i am shooting specifically for the website, having trekked for hours, i would normally use one (you can see the receiver for it on the top of the cameras hotshoe. This shoot though, was changing all the time and was never intended to be a vlog, i just jumped out at me, as an opportunity and i may have forgotten it in the car! LOL

Hey Gregory. It is the 80-160 f4 FA lens for the Pentax 645Z system. Its actually a brilliant lens when you stop it down. Hope that helps mate. = )

HI there - Thanks very much for the comment. Yes, the sound quality is bad, and was caused by a massive bumble bee who was trying to 'mate' with, or get Pollen off of my Rode Micro 'dead cat'. I had both the Rode Wireless go for me as I was some distance form the camera, and also had the Micro Piggy backed on camera to pick up the noise of the river to the left of frame. I only noticed when i was back in the studio, as I was too pre occupied at the time, being eaten by Sand Flies... which Im sure have teeth on their feet! In terms of the cropping, which image?.... That now make sense with the noise. 17.52 Image , for me I would like more cropped of the top, but when I look back and compare the original and then cropping it, might throw the balance out a bit, but it's all personal to what works for you, and it's a very nice image, you should be very proud of it. Thanks for the comment. yup agree. Always shouldve bought a film Pano camera... but sadly never did. Founf the Fuji clunky and Hassy was just a 35mm, which didnt give me the image quality i needed. Beautiful camera though. The thought of stitching 6x6 503 files into a true vetorama on film, was way too complex for my simple mind and so, sadly... i had to wait for digitisation and cheat a little! = ) Kindest regards, Ewan
