Awesome images. Amazing way of explaining lights and showdows. Never looked at it like that. Everyone looking for light. Howerver, shadows also give light more beauty.

When I did nothing but SEAscapes, I used to somewhat disagree with your opening statement here. While having light was nice sometimes, the lack of light (stormy, moody, black) was what I was after. Now shooting nothing but LANDscapes, I completely agree with your opening statement. Dull, flat, gray days have become the enemy that I've heard everyone talk about so often. I've definitely seen, ugh, the light 🙄 Great thoughts in this one mate and some wonderful examples to make your point. And two 20 second unskippable ads to start the video and a 10 second skippable around the 4:40 mark 😂. Looking forward to our chat soon!! Have a great rest of the weekend!

That's somewhat of my point here, we always have light, even at night, just different types of light. Even dull grey or moody days have light....it's just modified light - dull and moody usually refers to super soft multi-diffused light with much reduced intensity. But, as you alude to (and is perhaps not as clear in the vid as I thought haha), not every subject requires the same light, not every subject pops in the same light...so I totally agree with you on the difference required. And following our convo, I was cooking and had a 90 second non-skippable come up amongst many others but 90 seconds...ridiculous! Catch ya late this week mate

Wow, I have had to wait a week to watch this, but this was superbly put together and very thought-provoking with a view to my own photography. I don't consider myself a landscape photographer (an amateur jack of all trades, master of none), probably because I don't think so deeply about planning to even consider using apps to get the better image. It's about time I started taking it more seriously.

Thanks mate, I appreciate it. Back 4 years when I started doing this channel, I planned nothing. No apps, no research, I'd just go out on a limb and shoot. I have fond memories of then - far more enjoyable. There's no doubt that planning so much takes some of that joy away. But....there's also no doubt that my final images now are miles ahead of what I was producing back then and part of that is due to taking it more seriously. I'm going to get even more intentional with my outdoor photography next year which will no doubt strip away a little more of the fun factor but I know the images will be worth it. It's all just swings and roundabouts and knowing what you want from it I suppose.....and I can definitely be a bit too intense in 'my work' at times haha Hope you had a great holiday mate, look forward to seeing some of the images.

For me it’s the best video you have done and it’s shows the mediocrity of KZfaq Like the phrase it’s doesn’t get any better! And it’s fantastic! These phrases are singular. Not to be used in every bloody video!!!!!

Fabulous video Dave, enjoyed this one very much indeed! Really liked the comparison showing how useful strong light is for street/architectural photography as well - not something I’ve actually tried tbh. Nice follow on to the previous video as well 😊

Thanks Martin, that's exactly the response I was going for! I've hopefully got enough time for one more vid before the season to be jolly kicks into gear but, just in case I don't make it in time, wishing you and yours a fabulous Christmas and New Year.
