Landscape photography with the Lumix S1R - For our trip round Scotland, we decided to take advantage of the loan scheme offered by Lumix Pro and try out the Lumix S1R, along with the Lumix S 24-105mm and 70-200mm lenses. We are currently considering upgrading to a full frame mirrorless camera and thought it would be a great opportunity to try this new system, as well as see what a difference the high resolution, 47 megapixel sensor made for our photography.

Thanks Billy, yes it is a beast! Absolutely loved it, it's a brilliant piece of kit and must be great for studio work. Unfortunately it doesn't quite cut it for our wildlife work, otherwise we would have been very tempted to buy one.

Great vlog Sam. Powerful reflections and low sun over the lake and onto the mountain sides on the far shore. Keep them coming. Really enjoying this trip to Skye. F

Thank you very much! We were really impressed by the S1R, it's a stunning piece of kit and built like a tank as well. Thank you for watching, hopefully we'll be able to head back to the highlands in 2021 again! S.

Hey Matt, thanks for watching! I've just been catching up on your latest vid, that jellyfish photo was stunning, such incredible details and patterns in those animals, beautiful! We were pretty lucky with the weather on our trip I'm afraid, although that did make a change for us! I was sorry to see you had it rough, I hope you made it to Mull (I'll look forward to part 2!). We'd hoped to go there ourselves but didn't make it on this occasion so it will have to wait, I'm sure we will make it one day though! Did you see any otters? Sam.

Always try to catch up when I can :). Yeah the Jellyfish really surprised me with it's detail, glad you liked the shot. Yeah we nearly didn't make it over to Mull because of the weather, mind you, that's Scotland I guess :D. And yes, we did see a couple, you will have to check the video for details though ;)

Nice images. The S1R is the dark horse of FF high Mpx mirrorless ..... I’ve used it since release and once customised to your needs is the most flexible and easiest landscape camera to use that I’ve owned. Image quality is up with the best and the available lenses (Leica, Lumix, Sigma) are all top quality.

Thanks Steve! I have to say I was hugely impressed by the Lumix, it's an incredible camera and the image quality is simply superb. Plus it's built like a tank, which is hugely important for me as I like to photograph in tough weather and need a camera that will stand up. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone! Sam.

Thank you Ray, it's well worth the trip sometime, and I'd recommend fitting in a trip to Harris as well if you can! Did you stop off in Durness whilst doing the NC500 by the way? I grew up there and we visited on this trip as well, a stunning part of the world. It's a long way from Oxfordshire where we are now, but we try and get up there whenever we can, which is never often enough! Sam.

@@BosePhotography Yes we stayed a night at Vango Sands campsite and wild camped one night at the Kyle of Durness. I got a nice blue hour shot from there. instagram.com/p/CGN-NC5DsFO/?igshid=145ipbtx2z35f were you interested in photography when you lived there?
@BosePhotography

@@raesalmon Ah excellent! I really like that image you took of the Kyle. I moved away from Durness when I was 14, so long before I took up photography, but my parents are still there and I try and visit as often as I can. I've made a few videos from around that area (and have one coming up in the next few weeks too!). Funnily enough, one of the very first images I took was at the Kyle of Durness in the blue hour. I wrote a blog entry about it! It's not a great image, but means a lot to me in the context of things: bosephotography.co.uk/sams-blog/2020/1/25/the-most-important-image-ive-ever-taken-landscape-photography-and-mental-wellbeing

No worries! I have my own video from Loch Clair coming up as well, what a place! The FF mirrorless is just a matter of time now for us, we've already decided which one to go for I think (sadly not the Lumix, although it really is a cracking camera). Just biding our time a bit longer ;)

Thank you Andrew, yeah I know the feeling. It's a very impressive kit, but I don't think we can be pulled away from Canon ourselves, sometimes it's best to just stick with where you're comfortable! Thanks for watching, Sam.

@BosePhotography
@BosePhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Alan! I don't think we would unfortunately, it's a really impressive bit of kit, we love the image quality and the build of it, but for us we need a workhorse for both landscapes and wildlife and the lenses for both applications which I think means sticking with Canon for the time being. I know Joe Marano uses Lumix for wildlife, but I think Canon has the better full frame telephoto lenses and I'm not sure we'd find what we needed with the L-mount. In an ideal world, we'd probably go for a medium format for the landscapes and a Canon FF for the wildlife, but until then I think we'll wait until the R5 comes down in price a little!

Some lovely shots there. Good luck with the S1R but keep the Canon. It's still a great camera and worth more to you than you'll ever get for it. That's from a Nikon and Panasonic (MFT) shooter 👍
@BosePhotography
@BosePhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eltin, and don't worry, we're not getting rid of the Canon! The Lumix was just a two week loan from Lumix Pro, a great opportunity to try it out and our first outing with a FF mirrorless, but we'll probably stick with Canon when we do upgrade as the we need the glass for both landscapes and wildlife (and we just like Canons). We're also firm believers in keeping our old gear, our second camera is the 5D MkII which is still a fantastic camera and we won't be getting rid of that any time soon either! S.

Welcome to club Lumix (well for now) S1R isn't exactly aimed at me but for the right person 👌 You can drag the histogram around the screen rather than having it in the middle. I put mine at the bottom left :)
@BosePhotography
@BosePhotography 3 жыл бұрын
Ah, I assumed there must be a way to sort out that histogram, I was too lazy to get around to working it out! It was a very impressive bit of kit. And I've got a bit too used to 47mp now too, bank balance may suffer soon!
@JoeMaranophotography
@JoeMaranophotography 3 жыл бұрын
@@BosePhotography Did you try out the high res mode? I think that gives 187MP or something daft? Yeah it's easy to do either select histogram in menu and move it with the AF pad or just touch it with the touch screen and move it where you like :)

@@JoeMaranophotography no, I didn’t try the 187MP mode, again, purely through laziness I’m afraid! I figured 47 were enough!

Hi, what ND filter did you use brand wise? Thanks
@BosePhotography
@BosePhotography 2 жыл бұрын
Hi PJ, I use Kase 100mm wolverine filters, I’m using a K8 filter holder but this has been superseded by the K9 now. They’re a great system, and I like the fact that if you drop them they don’t break, very useful when you’re as clumsy as I am! 🙂 S
