The method 1. choose 1 Italian video and memorise the first 10 minutes (or any language you’re learning) 2. Once you memorise the video, use the same video in every exercise you do (shadowing,speaking, etc) 3. Master verb conjugation from the same video (have a word document written of the video you are memorising) 4. Start speaking to natives ( once you master the video content you have memorised and learnt what you’re talking about) The goal of this method: To become familiar with all the words from the video you are learning. His 4 steps to handle memorisation: 1. Shadow the first 30 second section 10 times (try to say it with the exact pronunciation and accent) The purpose of this to get familiar with the overall meaning of the section in both English and your chosen language 2. Repeat each line of the section for 1 minute each, after learning the lines go back to see if you remember the previous lines The purpose of this is by repeating each line makes the brain get familiar with what you’re saying and helps you memorise an entire line instead of individual words, this also helps with improving pronunciation and accent. 3. Start from the beginning of the section and recite as much as you can remember. If you don’t remember the next line, look at it and restart the section again (do this until you can recite the whole 30 second without stopping) 4. Recite the entire 30 second section 10 times from your memory and then move on the next section. Do this method until you have memorised the entire video you are Learning from

It sounds like you're boiling down a child's experience with learning their native language into a more repeatable and efficient format. So instead of hearing thousands of words hundreds of times in different context, you'd hear hundreds of words thousands of times in the same context...And you are able to look them up in your native language. That's such an efficient idea! There's so much reinforcement. And while having a large vocabulary is nice, most of us repeat the same shit all the time. Especially due to life having routines and such. But this way, you'd reinforce a modest variety of sentence structures into your mind as well. So this method sounds like it has the potential for giving anyone a VERY stable base to start from with a new language, and then they can go about continuing to build their vocabulary and grammar through interactions like anyone would naturally, as they did growing up with their native language. Great videos on this channel. I can't wait to see how far you go with these experiments.

I know someone who did something similar to learn a base of Spanish, but she used songs. It worked so well for her that I’ve been using songs in the same way because I don’t get tired of listening to them dozens of times. But I also like the easy languages idea because songs sometimes take creative license with vocab and grammar so you don’t know if what they’re saying will truly be useful. Easy languages videos are a great idea because 1) transcripts / translations as you point out, 2) they interview a variety of native speakers so you can get used to how different people speak, 3) there’s a lot of repetition baked in because they ask the same questions to a bunch of people. I’ll try it!

Great that you actually showed the details of how you study. A lot of these language learning videos just broadly go over the ideas to effectively learn but actually seeing the process is way more helpful and encouraging!

HOW TO LEARN ANY LANGUAGE IN 6 WEEKS (NOTES) WEEK 1 - Memorize a 10 minute video in the language you want to learn 5 steps to memorizing the 10 minute video Step 1 Memorize the first 30 seconds of the video. Do this sentence by sentence. Pause the video after each sentence. And repeat the sentence out loud with the same pronunciation and accent as the speaker in the video. Repeat this exercise 10 times. The goal of this exercise is to learn and make sense of what they are saying. Step 2 Repeat each sentence individually (from the 30 second segment) for 1 minute. After doing this for 4 different sentences, repeat all of them together for 1 minute. Step 3 Start from the beginning of the 30 second segment, and recite as much of the section as you can remember. If you can’t remember the next line, look it up, and restart the section from the beginning. Continue reciting what you remember, until you miss another line. Repeat this process until you can speak the full 30 second segment, without stopping or forgetting any lines. Step 4 Recite the entire 30 second section 10 times from memory. Then start this same 4 step process for the next 30 seconds of the video. Step 5 Maintain what you have memorized by reciting the previously memorized sections 5 times before starting the next section. By the end you should know what each word and phrase means. WEEK 2 4 Steps Step 1 Write 2 paragraphs about 6 different topics Examples: - Your Career - Your Goals & Desires - Your love life - Entertainment that you enjoy - Your Hobbies - Food that you enjoy - Important people in your life Step 2 Translate what you wrote to the language you’re learning with DeepL translator. And then memorize what you wrote each day using the same process you used in week 1. Step 3 Create a list of individual words commonly used in conversation in any language (people, places, things, time, commonly asked questions, etc.) The goal is to build a base vocabulary of 1,000 words. This will allow you to start having conversations with native speakers in weeks 3 & 4. Doing all of this is for the sake of developing a very deep understanding of all the words and phrases that make up your Italian vocabulary. WEEK 3-6 Speak with native speakers

I'm in awe Cameron. there's a young italian YTer here that nearly gets to what you're laying down but without the clear concise map. For example. "don't understand me? repeat this video 20 or 50 times until you do!" this actually helped me couple years ago on my journey. My ears are pretty good at catching conversational Italian. Speaking it with any sort of fluidity? OUCH. I just spent 90 minutes testing your method and holy crap, I'm speaking naturally in some complex - to me - sentences. I feel like I owe you some cheese. That's a great method you are using to learn Italian. It's true that when we memorize a dialogue or a text and review it everyday, we can remember it for a long time, especially when we start using words or expressions from that text. Great method!. The method you use is based on hardcore science and is absolutely effective. it's called: "Deep learning", or "Learn less but learn it better". It's highly effective because we can only be fluent or good in subjects/things that we dominate well or have a deep level of automaticity. I know this from experience, I had read hundreds, maybe thousands of pages in English but I couldn't speak fluently because I knew a lot of words but I didn't have enough sentences automated to be able to speak.

I love that you considered how we learn language as children, bcuz that’s one aspect some language instruction misses! Also, the spaced repetition you explained is very imp! As u practice each day, really think about the meaning of what you are saying and making connections to it/visualizing it bcuz repetition and emotion are 2 factors that lead your brain to store the info in your long-term memory. For those who feel they don’t have a lot of time for language learning ea day, whatever time you have, give it consistently, and you will see progress! 🥇

i did your french tutorial during my study abroad year in paris, and it was instrumental in setting me up to be conversational (i never studied the language in my life). now im back home and i have conversations every day with my girlfriend , a parisian girl, which is crazy because i never thought learning and having real conversations in another language was possible for me. i totally understand what you are attempting to get across with this video, when i started speaking i used a very small set of words in lots of different contexts, and when you speak you dont really need to learn every single conjugation or verb, only the ones that you really tend to use. things grow from there rapidly and then one day you speak in your target language all day with tons of vocab and its dope! youre the best man, thanks a lot.

This is excellent and a much awaited video - glad to see you back. I've been learning Mandarin for years and have a pretty large passive vocabulary but struggle to use it (as you say - 'a little time with a lot of vocabulary' rather than 'a lot of time with a little vocabulary'). I've long held to 'input is everything and it will just come out when you need it' but there's a danger that's too passive - your approach is much more active (and of course, tougher). I've been trying this out for the last few days and I'm a fan so far. Certainly much easier if starting from an otherwise intermediate base because there are less brand new words. A particular advantage with Mandarin is there are no word conjugations. Other than the characters (which are a slog to memorise at first but get easier as you know more), the main challenges are (1) tones, and (2) flexible sentence structure. Tones make this technique slightly harder but also even more useful since it helps fluency to chain tones together. One benefit of your technique is that it gives you a sense of achievement and confidence to be able to produce 30 second snippets of native content verbatim. This is important because language learning can be demoralising at times so having shortish deliverable objectives can build a sense of progress.

At 2:46, you essentially describe Stephen Krashen's "comprehensible input" hypothesis wherein he states that language acquisition happens more effectively when one is gets immersed in streams of comprehensible input just like how a child would learn a native language. Awesome idea. Another thing I would highly recommend for Italian and it's what I do with my students: Nail the vowel sounds and combinations. A, e, i, o, u and the c,g and sc combined with the vowels etc: Hard sound combos: ca, co, cu, chi, che, ga, go, gu, ghi, ghe, sca, sco, scu, schi, sche (CAH COH CUU etc) Soft sound combos: cia, cio, ciu, ci, ce, gia, gio, giu, gi, ge, scia, scio, sciu, sci, sce (chah, choh, chuu etc) Italian is all about the vowels and these combos. Master the tone and inflections of these and you instantly sound more authentic. Another important tool to use is what I call word-stitching: This is where, when reading a sentence, you don't close your voice box between words but say them all in one continuous stream. For example: "vado alla spiaggia" Beginners often say it with voice box/throat closes inbetween "vado, alla, spiaggia" wheareas it should be without that: "vadoalla spiaggia". Words starting with vowels are they ones that cause your voice box to close if you're not looking out for it.

Every single time, when somebody think out of the box I'm thrilled to watch the idea. But when somebody think out the box and all of this have a great sense, and when you automatically have those sense that it could be something special, those thrill feeling is doubled. You did it, keep going. I'm super excited to watch next parts.

For anyone trying this on your phone I recommend changing your double-tap playback settings to 5 seconds instead of the default 10 seconds, can do so by clicking your picture in the top right corner and go to general in your settings.

Hi, I am your new subscriber and I just started to test your learning method on German, and I memorized about 18 seconds of video in 1 hour. (45 unique words). It is a very unorthodox approach, but I like that I can improve, my reading, listening, understanding, grammar, and speaking all in 1 place. After I memorized and recorded the audio I was trying to match the video's talk speed, I shortened it from 36seconds down to 30s. Not bad for the first, day. I also opened a text file and wrote everything in German from what I memorized. After I compared it with the original subtitles I only missed 2 letters. So I am happy with the result. Will see how much I will remember tomorrow morning. Thumbs up!

In athletics, they use this same form. I believe it’s called “periodization”. Essentially, they practice one skill over a period of time. Example: (basketball) dribbling skills. One drill with dominant hand/weak hand. Then the drill progresses towards movement with dribbling and onward. It’s very interesting to see you breakdown your approach. I love it in this way you do it. Can’t wait to see your progression! I’ll give this method a shot! You definitely are a Language Lord!

I have been trying this with Spanish with a few tweaks and it works! Here is what I do : I’ll go section by section with my video and then use auto generated subtitles to write it down. Then I write down what I think it means in English, and then check it. The words I got wrong are the ones I write down to study more in depth for the lesson. Plus most of the stuff mentioned in the other steps firm this video. 😊 learning through context is one of best ways ti learn, it’s much easier then just learning random words robot

Your results are proof but I did something similar for Japanese. After studying on and off for many years without ever becoming fluent. I just studied a (now-defunct) Japanese podcast that had about a dozen world scenarios. After the scenario the hosts would recap the scenario word by word explaining the correct context for usage. I just memorized each scenario over 6 months before going to Japan for the first time. I was amazed how strong my Japanese was after being there for a few weeks, closest I’d ever been to being fluent. Forgotten everything now lol

one of my goals in life is to become a polyglot and experience other cultures in their native languages, very similar to you, and i've gotten a lot of criticism and naysayers telling me that i can't do it, and i've been so inspired by your videos and how committed you are to language learning. i don't think i can put in eight hours a day, but i hate the conventional language learning methods and how heavy they are on grammar study and textbook learning, so hopefully your method brings me better success and i'm really looking forward to these next weeks!

I've been doing something similar in Persian for the last few days. Instead of memorizing words, I practice remembering phrases and sentences. It's going well for me. I'm finding myself remembering enough to give me confidence. I am using spaced repetition though. Forgive me.

Bro, this is such a great content! When I start learning Italian, I will def follow this exactly method and probably even use the same video you did. At the moment I am learning French and I will find a way to apply what you showed today as well as your French videos... tbh I have not been very consistent. I def like the idea of not studying grammar and verb conjugations for the same reason you explained, so I basically try to learn like a kid by being exposed to the content. Im from Brazil (so Portuguese is my native language), fluent in English from studying abroad and I also speak Spanish. Im learning French and knowing these other languages help so much... since it is more difficult than Italian (in my opinion), I prefer to learn first. It's amazing how we both had similar ideas on how to learn a new language. The difference is, I started with writing the script and translating it before watching videos and trying to copy the pronunciation (and I never memorized the video, I memorized my own script). And the video part I could have skipped if there was an app or a website that had perfect speech to text flow and pronunciation ,or I knew a native speaker of that language to read the script.
