I'm not surprised by this given the crash Remco had on Stage 12. The physical toll a crash takes on your body starts to show after a few days, whether its the pain or the amount of energy your body uses up trying to recover. Stage 15 will be huge, as if Remco can limit the losses before a rest day he may have enough to hold on through week 3 but I think Roglic and TJV have to really go for it
@filmaynard
@filmaynard 2 жыл бұрын
This. People who downplay the effects of even a minor crash have never tasted pavement. It’s hard to sleep, and thus impacts recovery. It distracts mentally. And obviously there’s an impact to performance. Even if that impact is very small, this is a game of tiny percentages.

Agree, but I think if you want to win a grand tour you have to be able to get over it. This means over the mental stress and minor injuries, if he is severly injured it is something different. I think top 3 gc riders in this years tour had their bad/unlucky moments, but were not majorly affected by them or found a way out. Don't want to make that a remco is not tough enough reply, but I think you won't win a grand tour where every day is going for you. If he is majorly injured it is a different story. Today I think he made the best out of a bad situation.

Agree and when in a grand tour the body is already right on the limit. The smallest issues health wise are magnified. Impact to sleep, soft tissue, rib and joint pain. That crash in a moment of distraction might well have cost him the GT.

@MDP1702 2 жыл бұрын
That is just complete bullshit though, Remco on Pico Jano did a performance Roglic never did, not even at his best times. Remco with such form doesn't just stay in Roglic's wheel today, but again rides away. Remco just cracked today, simple as that. The main question now is whether this will happen again or if it is just one bad day. What is interesting is that once the gap was established, Remco barely lost time on the easier going section, exactly what the Sierra Nevada is after that first hard 5km. It is actually funny that people keep doing the same thing. First with Pogacar they said it is over after the first TdF week, then they said the same with this vuelta after Remco being so dominant and now again people act like Remco is done after one bad day. It is the equivalent of saying that Roglic was completely done after Pico Jano. We now first need to see how Remco is tomorrow to say anything usefull, does he crack again or not?

I don’t think most of those people, myself included thought he would have such a big lead when that day finally happened. Now it’s all a matter of can Remco survive tomorrow and limit the losses in order to make it to week 3 in the red jersey. I wonder if he just accepts the he’s going to lose time on Sierra Nevada and let’s the gc guy’s do their own thing from the base of the climb, while he rides the climb to power.

Like clockwork.. Evenepoel seems to only have 10days to 2 weeks in him.. at an insane level, but 2wks nonetheless.. plus elevation.. plus steepness.. think it’s mostly down elevation + 2wks in legs though 🤷🏽‍♂️ He even mentioned it in interview about Tour de Suisses.. high elevation appears to be his Achilles heel…

That could pose a problem if he ever wants to try for the Hour Record on the Aguascalientes wooden bowl, unless he acclimates to that altitude over time. (Or just go to much lower elevation Grenchen for the attempt, like others have. 😉)

If you cared that much you'd be watching live, if you couldn't but still cared then you wouldn't be coming to YT to catch-up, you'd be on the GCN+ app or something. If all you wanted was brief highlights/analysis then how can it spoil it for you, as you're not about to watch the final climb uninterrupted? Besides, knowing what the title gives away hardly covers much of what went on in a stage, let alone in this case who even won it.

@@ManWalksDogs because I wanted to catch up on Sunday. I came to KZfaq for a completely different reason. Spoiling the results/content of anything on the same day it's a dick move, there could me plenty of reasons why someone is not able to watch it immediately. Time zones, for example. Yes, they have had a few in the past (Joop comes to mind going way back), but it is a bit perplexing, even given the 'proper' pure climber's power to weight, and 'build'. I guess enough training/training camps in the mountains will do it given everything else being great (said build and power to weight), even coming from a dead flat country??

Because in the Youth Classification after Remco who's wearing the red Jersey, it's Rodriguez who choses instead to wear his national champion jersey, which is allowed by UCI rules, so in this case the white jersey passes to the rider who's 3rd overall, Ayuso.

Don't be so sure, unless he his already at the top of his game, which i doubt being only 24 years old. He is not even at his peak form at this Vuelta, just like every single GC rider that is doing Giro/Vuelta this year, in fact he's the stronger rider of them all, not counting MAL, because he only did 4 stages at the Giro before DNF. Besides he had covid and only started resuming his training 1 month after the end of the Giro. He could win a GT if he's on peak form and doesn't have to fight against the 1st class tier of GC riders (Poga, Vinge, Roglic) and perhaps Bernal (not sure after his injuries) and Evenepoel (not proven yet in 3 weeks). All the other top GC riders (Carapaz, Hindley, Landa, Bardet, Yates brothers, Gaudu, O'Connor, MAL, Vlasov, Thomas, Almeida) are at some extent, very close in potential, so the diference between them is made by the form that they have in the moment they are competing and their teams strength, so it can go anywhere.

@@XavierHipolito Yes sure it was, but there isn't a bike with a camera for every single rider, so they have to chose, it only makes sense that they would focus in Carapaz, Roglic and Mal and the red Jersey. Almeida ended up being in no one's land riding alone between Roglic/Mal and Evenepoel/Ayuso. In the last 3k. We also didn't have much coverage from Rodriguez for the same reasons.
