00:00 Introduction
Sneakers are not a typical Gentleman’s Gazette staple, but instead of dismissing them outright, we wanted to take another look because of the wild popularity that sneakers from the brand have been generating.
You wouldn’t expect to see sneakers on Raphael or Preston, but Kyle happens to be a big fan of them for certain outfits. Those that have a sleek and modern look from the popular menswear brand Lanvin.
01:17 Lanvin: The French Couture House
The company was first sold in 1990 and was run by a family member until 1996. The company changed hands and creative directors many times over the next 30 years, and a Shanghai-based conglomerate Fosun International currently holds the majority stake.
Similar to many other high-end fashion houses, Lanvin focuses on seasonal, trend-driven collections. For example, for men, they offer ready-to-wear evening pants with a satin waistband. This is paired with a long sleeve t-shirt and red and gold trainers. It doesn’t feature a gallon stripe. They also don’t offer a matching jacket.
02:52 The Lanvin DBB1 Sneakers
The overall look is mature and understated for a sneaker; no loud branding colors or details. It comes in a range of muted colors, mostly white, black, and shades of gray, and also the occasional earth tones like olive green or shade of brown.
The toe cap of the shoe is usually in contrast to the rest of the upper, most typically as a tone on tone contrast and a different finish; for example, such as suede, calfskin leather, patent leather, or even a croc-embossed leather.
04:00 For Its High Price Point: Is It Worth It?
You’re still paying substantially for the brand and for the ability to have #Lanvin sneakers on your Instagram page. The look is mature and understated, so for men who want to stay on the dressy end of the spectrum, this is a great option, if you’re willing to pay the price.
07:08 Our Verdict
If you really like this look, there are many other options out there that are almost identical for a quarter of the price, and frankly, a good loafer or driving moc will make you look much more put together.

In terms of buying at retail, the price seems pretty steep and agree that $500 is not worth it. However, it is pretty common to see them in many department stores and on sale. Sometimes, it may show up in the off price department stores such as Nordstrom Rack (in North America). I do think if the price is around $200-300, it seems a bit reasonable. Not sure in 2023 but common to see a few years back.

Good thoughts there, but I believe you've sold them short on the verdict. These are one of the most elegant and refined trainers on the market. They're as versatile as that type of shoe could be. The price is quite alright as well, all things considered. We can find much more expensive sneakers on the market which hardly are better. About your alternatives,... I just don't want to comment on these. To say they don't even come close would be a massive understatement.

@Selim Mašić I wonder how long they last when you start bleachng them! I had a pair of Clarks once and this was the problem with them, too - they looked nice out of the box but they began to look dirty and battered very quickly (they were trashed after about 3 months). Elaborate patterns will work depending on what you mean by "elaborate". A red and gold medallion tie would work well with many outfits, but something like a Jerry Garcia tie isn't classic at all. If it's a product of the time, forget it. That is my recommendation!

@@JoJo-xp6wr Those kind of things are up to you. Ties are some of the best self-expression garments you can own, and rules are a bit looser on tie patterns; the main one being don't go for trendy/dated looks. Back then they were Dunlop Green Flash and could be bought for £30 up until recently. Replace the canvas with dead animal skin, decuple the price and viola, a luxury sneaker! Yet another con job. If Lanvin Sneakers are too far above your price range, the independent Italian brand Geox makes very similarly styled sneakers, casual, and also dress shoes and all in the $150-$200 price range. The company itself runs sales from it's own site often and older models and styles can often be found on secondary sites like amazon for less then $100 US.

Wow, I think these sneakers, are FAR from trendy, I'd say they're pretty inoffensive, stripped back and quite classy if i'm honest! I know you said you wouldn't reccomend them, but how the devil could you compare them to those brown rockport horror show trainer/shoes. I think you guys are missing a trick a little here and are a touch out of touch with contemporary classic style combimations that are here to stay and have been knocking around for about 10 plus years. For trim people in their mid twenties and upwards there is a lot of sleek but classic menswear out there. I live in London and live or die by Sunspel, who now have a shop on Jermyn St. Despite being a revamped herritage brand, they really do set the bar for contemporary british style, and relieve the brits of our stuffy image, taking influence from america and europe, whilst keeping it English. They even supply the bond films. Can I strongly suggest you do a feature? All the best.

Kyle is a wonderful speaker with a wealth of knowledge. But he seems out of place on a channel devoted to classic clothes. He clings to the now 10 plus year-old fashion of too tight clothes, which is a terrible look for most men. Only slim men of average height can pull it off. Tall men look like they received hand-me-downs from their much younger brothers. Short guys look like they got caught in the rain on their way to preschool. And heavier guys are the worst because the overly tight clothes accentuates every additional pound and they looked stuffed in their clothes. In years to come, this style will go down as one of the worst of all times in mens' clothing. It ranks up with polyester bellbottoms on the yulk scale.

An incredibly absurd price for what's essentially disposable knock-around footwear. Everything can't be up-scaled in terms of design and quality; this is just absurd, pointless trend-chasing and really is just an idiotic extension of efforts to try to make disposable fashion something other than what it is by definition.

Superb review. But what a hyped product. Nothing special here.
