I'm surprised there aren't more reviews of this amazing lens. I use it with a Fuji X-T3, a Meike flash, and a Cygnustech diffusor. I've tried many other combinations of camera and lens and this is by far my favorite. I wouldnt want to haul around anything bigger. IBIS and autofocus are useless, and a flash is essential for anything close to 2x magnification. I'm glad they put all the value into it being a manual lens. Thank you for the review.

You said it all! Thank you very much for your comment Perigee! 😀 I am very interested in those fujifilm camera, they look so cool... I may go for the Fuji x-t 40 if they make one in the future. I am thinking, maybe the XT5 has too much mega pixels and could be challenging at high magnification... I use a Meike as well, the MK320. I just heard about your flash diffuser 1 week ago. It looks very good! Cheers! 🙂

What a magnificent photographer and yes these Loawa lens are totally great as well. I'm planning on buying the 100mm Pentax version for my Sigma SDQ-H I hope it fits my camera, as far as I can tell it physically the same mount only with different electrical coms but that doesn't apply with a manual lens.

Oh thank you so much for your comment and subscribing. 😀 I have questions for you... [EDITED] Isn't it still easy enough to handheld at 3/1? (I will start soon testing it with 31mm ext. tubes, should be close to around 2,6/1 i guess) Don't you feel like you are loosing a bit of sharpness with 1 more glass, or not at all? Why so few videos? And congratulations for your 245k views... That's cool! 😀👍
@diaryofcreation582
@diaryofcreation582 Жыл бұрын
@@Chrispitchwildlife 3:1 is the the upper limit for hand holding in my opinion. Typically I'll only use it for tiny subjects anyway. Their small size kind of even outs the decrease in depth of field you get at 3:1 over against 1:1 if you know what I mean. I notice no loss of sharpness with the extra glass as the laowa has superb imamge quality as is. The great thing about the Raynox over against extension tubes is, you don't loose any light : ) However I do have to say, that the clamp it comes with is a bit flimsy. Screwing it directly onto the lens is better. As for the few videos Time and Energy :D

Thank you so much Chris! That is my first flash diffuser. The only pro is that it is sooo convenient and light weight. It is not that good if the subject is too shiny. There is a link now in the video description, so at least you can check it on Amazon. (I am not allowed to put one of those links in the comment, I think...) Awesome video! Nice choice of music! Great shots too! One Qs : Did you use focus stacking or focus bracketing for the macro shots here? Also was lack of autofocus a significant problem for portraits in outdoors? I've Nikon Z50 APSC camera, and these are my concerns before buying. Thanks! :)
@Chrispitchwildlife
@Chrispitchwildlife Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your comment Vivaldo! 😀 There is no focus bracketing or stacking in this video. And for portrait, do you mean horses and humans? If yes, you will have to compensate the lack of AF with skills and shooting more to make sure you have some backup photos, and you will have to check more your photos at the back of your camera before going home. 😁 That said, i don't think i missed the focus in any of my horse's shoots. I guess the difference is that with the last Sony lens + camera you KNOW the eye is in focus. And with a Laowa lens you THINK the eye is in focus. Until you verify. 😄 Here is a video about focus stacking if you are interested: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nclzmM-WuJy6iaM.html You may want to subscribe and click the bell, there is a video about 15 tips for macro coming in the next days. 😁 Have a great day! 🤔 Cheers!

Nice, 2:1 sounds awesome I had once a Canon 100 2.8L Macro on the EOS RP, not too bad but expensive, heavy and i didnt really like it. As i "upgraded" to a APS-C EOS R7 i also got rid of the 100mm macro and got a dirty cheap Sigma 50mm 2.8 EX DG macro, MUCH smaller and performing pretty much the same (IBIS is even more powerful than the EF 100mm 2.8Ls stabilizer!)
@Chrispitchwildlife
@Chrispitchwildlife Жыл бұрын
Yeah 2/1 is great for everything smaller than 0.5mm. That is really the fact that i was constantly using 32mm of extensions tubes and by doing so, i was losing infinity focus. If it don't bother you to lose infinity focus, maybe you should consider to buy some extension tubes to get a bit more magnification for just 30$ us. But if you have 400$us, that laowa is very sharp, i love it!
@harrison00xXx
@harrison00xXx Жыл бұрын
@@Chrispitchwildlife Yep, i realized some months ago at very small insects that the nearly 1:1 magnification is not THAT MUCH, its not bad, but often enough i wish to have more. Infinity focus isnt an issue, when i use the 50mm macro im doing ONLY macro, but does autofocus even work with extenders? At least i just LOVE the focus stacking function on the R7 and i barely do macro without anymore so working AF is a must have feature.

So.. i just tried out my Meike extension tubes with my RF 35mm macro. It has the electonic connection. My AF is moving back and forth, but it don't find the focus point... however, internet is saying that it works. i guess you will have to make some deeper research on this one. Cheers!

@@Chrispitchwildlife I really need to know that which camera and lens is good for these videos. Videos like "yt objects". Currently i am using my poco x3 mobile phone and a cheap mobile macro lens. I don't have a lot of money so its very important for me to make the right decision

@@Macro_Station I am sorry Mac, but I own only 2 cameras cropped censors, I don't have any Sony. And I never compared my 2 camera with anything. The best I can tell you is that the smaller the censor is, the biggest your depth of field will be. That's why a cellphone will capture a lot of the subject. And that's why a lot of people are buying macro4/3 for macro, like the OM 1 for example, or things like this. But when it's about video you have also to consider 4k, 6k, 8k resolution. The higher the resolution, the more you can crop, therefore record from a bit farther, therefore get a bit more depth if field. Also, i am still a beginner, you should ask as many experienced people as you can. 😌 Good luck, and continue your great work. You are on something!

no automatic dial-in of IBIS. that is a SERIOUS consideration to take in. For even (sharpness, ) reproductions of flat (not nature) the Laowa 90mm is (most probably) better.
@Chrispitchwildlife
@Chrispitchwildlife Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your comment A.R! 🙂 Yes, its always good to have IBIS specially for video though. But actually not really needed if using a flash, as long as it overpower the ambient light. But as you said, always better to have it. For me the laowa 65, 85, or 95, from the reviews i see are all excellent lenses with very good sharpness. The differences though are: - Laowa 90mm is 619grams and made for Full frames. - Laowa 65 is 330 grams and made for cropped censors (which i have) Both have a max aperture of 2,8 which is good for other uses than macro compare to the laowa 85 (i think 4.5 or even more) Hope you enjoy your lens!
