Takes about 25 tons per square inch to shear steel. Rebar a little more. To chop up the entire length of the rebar, not just the longitudinal cross section (probably over 60 tons/cross section for one of those pieces of rebar) , that is a lot of tons. Just be glad all you broke is one of those blades. I've seen less stupid things that destroyed the entire machine as in breaking the entire frame (like the person who did not set the stroke depth of a 120 ton punch press, it bottomed out and broke the entire cast iron frame into three useless pieces.)

I worked as a millwright for a machine shop in South Alabama. Axis welding and machine. ( Town of axis, and cool reference to machining lol).. anyways one of out biggest contracts was a plant down the road called lenzing fibers. They manufacture a fiber called " tencel".. and they have an enormous shredder.. it wears as any machine does, and we'd machine new teeth and and install them.. it is quite tedious because of the tolerances and all. But it can be done. And is obviously much cheaper than replacing the machine in it's entirety

I guarantee the "tens of thousands of dollars" in the title was just the brand new RRP of the shredder. The channel owner almost certainly got this one used either as junk or at a massive discount. This is KZfaq, where literally every video title is hyped as much as possible 🙄

The plastic toys and metal bowl are time-wasters really. They keep reappearing in every video with the same predictable/boring result. Once you've seen them once, you've seen them all. It would be a good idea to use different type/material items in every video, instead of reusing the same ones.

You can immediately see the result when you try to shred actual metal. Not that trash brittle stuff that only looks shiny on the outside but is full of impurities on the inside. Shredders can't shred a metal that's harder than it's own blades.

This shredder gives me the heebie-jeebies. It's not really cathartic for me like some might suggest. All I can imagine is someone's hand, foot or some part of the body getting caught in there--Ugh, horrible. It's like chainsaws--they are freaking awesome tools but so deadly. Same for wood chippers. The lighters exploding was cool, though. Its like watching a car wreck; I cannot look away.

"How many human bodies have been PURPOSEFULLY put through these machines since their inception? 250-1k? 1k-2.5k? 2.5k-5k? 5k-10k? More?" The Economist - through a partnership with the International Society of Metallurgical Physicists along with the World Forum of Forensic Anthropologists and Odontologists in partnership with the North American Society of Destructification Machinery - is conducting vital research into this important matter, and your answers to this survey will provide much needed insight into the general public's awareness of clandestine means of extra-judicial corporeal disposal. If you wish to participate, simply reply to this comment with your estimate (ranges mentioned in the original post were only examples; any single number estimate, or range, will suffice).
