For me, I have no fear of needles but seeing them pierce my flesh has a nasty habit of making me nauseated.

Had plenty of blood work done in my life, helps me watch my health. Shits important, because if you don't keep track, it can get away real quick. Needles and some red pales to the fear of debilitating chronic ailment or deadly acute sickness. Then again, I've always been able to mitigate fear by facing it head on.

And me here is confused on why some people would faint by looking at their own blood, like dont you get cuts once in your life and blood comes pouring out?

I agree with the original comment, if someone is already scared, looking at the blood is really not gonna help. I've had blood drawn once, I was a little tense in general but otherwise not phased at all and watched the whole thing. It's not that painful, just a weird feeling.

It's doesn't hurt really, if anything it hurts worse after.

I wonder why the doctor while she asked her didn't already inserted the needle. I remembered one time I was at the skin doctor to get rid of some grown inwards hair (Zyste). I layed on the operation table, the anestasia was in the skin, time passed and I asked "when do you start" and the doctor said: "I'm already mostly finished"... we had just talked about university stuff while she was operating :D

nah. you know it's gonna hurt when the doctor calls in two huge nurses in to hold you down for the procedure. getting a dirty wound rinsed out with saline is NOT a fun experience.

Less about pain and more about potential vertigo. Looking at your own blood being taken from you via sampling can cause a body reflex that makes you feel really dizzy to even puke. Happened to me once.

Yeah. The needle size used for each procedure is completely different. I did both giving blood sample for annual health check up and blood donation and gotta say the one used in donation is rather intimidating.

That actually happened to me. But I confused it with blood trauma because I had a botched blood draw as a child (nurse didn't properly patch the area). When I had my blood taken as an adult for lab test, the nurse didn't even knew what you've said was a thing and was instead shocked still as I went dizzy & started puking. Thankfully the restroom was next door and I was able to hobble my way there, but goddamn.

I thought the same, the fainthearted might get dizzy, so the nurse made a smart move

@@Lv6_Esper I haven't donating my blood but I heard from people who did, the needle is indeed larger. Probably to make the blood drawing easier & faster. Imagine if they use normal needle like in the syringe

2 years ago a new nurse handling my case, she got on 1st strike but seem like she mess up something inside, because after 5 minutes my left hand become purple, almost whole left hand The doctor said it's not really serious and do nothing about it

I remember a time when I had to take a shitload of blood tests. One time they had to draw 8 vials at once! So at the fifth vial my blood just stopped coming out of the vein. The nurse looked puzzled, then shrugged and said: "Hope there's some left in the other hand", lol. I'm not afraid of the procedure, but that one time made me quite uncomfortable.

i think going to gym and having a low fat percentage makes your blood veins show better. back when i hadn't yet started to go to gym, whenever i went to donate blood, the nurse could never find the vein in my left arm properly, it always was left bruised and then turned to right arm. it always had to be the right arm in the end. i was right handed, so it showed better in my right hand back in the day, i think, more musculature, better vein. ​ @Telefrag 8 vials sounds a lot. i cant find information where they would need that many.
