So interesting how she works with very little. It's simply her voice, a piano, pianist, a scarf yet she paints such a scene!

I love this particular performance, so intense but yet so sutil, she immerse you in her song, and her voice is just astonishing.

I totally agree. She's definitely someone you have to see and experience on stage. A studio recording cannot capture the additional depth she brings into a live performance.

No other singer ever made me give a fight not to tear up from the very first seconds Jeff. And I see this happening to many music reactors, even with men because of this magic creature. This is the definition of artist I suppose. But time is merciless and her voice and breath have not the same strength any more. And she knows of course. She already avoids cleverly very high and very long notes. I agree that she could try acting too, which she has been studied and has prooved she is very good as well. At least she could try musicals though I would like to see her in any kind of acting. It's very important for all of us to know the right time to retire from something we love and have been very good at

Hi Jeff, here are the lyrics to the song, it's really amazing! I live alone with mom in a very old apartment on Sarasate Street. For company I have a turtle, two canaries and a cat. To let mother rest very often I go to the market and the kitchen - I arrange, I wash, I wipe, occasionally, I also stitch on the sewing machine. Work doesn't scare me, I'm a little of a decorator, a little of a stylist. My real job is at night - I practice cross dressing. I'm an artist. I have a very special show that ends in complete nudity after my strip-tease and in the hall I see that the guys can't believe their eyes. "I am a homo", like they say. About three o'clock in the morning we'll eat with friends, all the sexes, in an ordinary smoking bar and there we give in to our heart's joy, without complexes we unwrap the truths about the people who dislike us without effort. We have them stoned but we're doing it with humour, dressing it with puns, wet with acid. We meet the idiots who, to impress their tables, walk and wave, mimicking what they think we are and they cover themselves, the poor fools! The ridiculous gestures, the loud-talking divas, the leaders, the stupidity, the gibes, the jests leave me cold because it's true "I am a homo" like they say. At the time when a new day is born, I return to find my lot of solitude. I take off my eyelashes and my wig, like a poor unhappy clown. Exhausted I lie down but I don't sleep. I think of my loves without joy, so paltry, of this boy beautiful like a god who without doing anything has set the fire in my memory. My mouth will never dare confess to him my sweet secret, my tender drama, because the object of all my torments passes the greater part of his time in bed with women. Nobody has right to the truth of blaming me, of judging me and I precisely say that it is nature that is solely responsible if "I am a homo" like they say

Lara is a fascinating Story Singer but this song is Aznavour’s and he really hit the nail just perfectly. I would add that at the time he came up on stage with it he was rightly daring and certainly made a bang in French Society. Thank you both for your exquisite talent.

I really like your insight and agree 100 percent, Lara live is always best. She feeds from the audience and it really shows. I always have loved her performance of "Broken Vow" (live) and I swear that toward the end of the song, her lip quivers from emotion. How do you "fake" that? I would like to believe she gets so involved in her performance that she becomes the message of the song. Keep up the good work.

An original and very daring song by Charles Aznavour. About a gay drag performer. Written and performed by him in the early 70's. A truly remarkable song!

Omg... that was awesome ! I'm french and I don't usually listen or like french songs but EVERY song that she touches, that she sings, performs, I love it. That shows that the artist makes a huge difference, the way she interprets this song (generally, all songs) is just pure gold, she's out of this world

If you want to see her acting, watch some videos from movie project Mademoiselle Zhivago: Toccami is very sensual, Mademoiselle Hyde is dark and intriguing, Llora is very moving, A russian fairytale and Desperated housewife are cinematic , Lou is heartbreaking etc.

This song is from Charles Aznavour and it talks about a boy who’s a transvestite and about homosexuality. It was written in 1972. If you love this song come to listen Charles Aznavour or Jacques Brel. The melodies and lyrics are incredibles. ;)

A beautiful song from Aznavour. But very apt for a Lara show given how she's been supportive of the LGBT cause through the years (see La Différence or Deux ils, deux elles) Besides, completely agree on the fact Lara sounds way better live. Or used to (again, my personal preference).

Lara performance here singing Comme Ils Disent is indeed amazing. I believe she will be really good doing something like Miss Saigon. It is going to be interesting how she will do and compare with somebody like the great Lea Salonga for example.

Yes, Lara live is always better then studio. She said she feeds of the audiance so you are right on point. As a fan I have every studio album but her live is just superior. Small but best part of the song for me: when she says "acide" acid in english. She makes it sound like acid if that makes any sense lol min 6:15 in this reaction

That's true: she makes a bitterlike sound when she's uttering the word "acide" (Eng=acid) to kind of realise that meaning. It's incredible!

Bonjour!

J’adore la version de Lara mais Charles Aznavour ( with this particular sing ) est incroyable et irremplaçable ( for me of course ) but the lyrics god the lyrics are perfect really and in the French song ( the real ) are kind of poetry ... not need a big voice but tu be a good performer merci merci beaucoup j’adore 🇫🇷🌹

I'm not at all a professional in music, anything else in fact, but your comments made me wonder, being a European, whether you saying 'professionally trained' does not cover the same thing as 'classically trained' in Europe does. Because here in Europe I think classically trained singers are trained in operatic singing, which can be a university degree, not just 'professional tuition'. I have no clue, you know more about it, but may I suggest that you, with your background, take a look at Saara Aalto, a classically trained Finnish singer. She appeared in the British X Factor (came second) and you can easily find her performances on KZfaq, but her examination recitals for her BA in classical singing from the Finnish Sibelius Academy can be found under "Saara Aalto singing classical" in KZfaq. Just for interest, she also has a rendition of 'Je suis malade', and whilst her vocal tone is clearly inferior to Lara Fabian's, I'd like to hear your thinking on this matter, just so that I would understand more of the music I love instinctual. Also, I like your analysis. Thanks for taking the time.

Beautiful song and beautiful lyrics for as much as I understand them. I would have to see the written text to get the whole picture. The whole performance was great. She would be fantastic playing any of the characters that you have mentioned in any musical. I wish they would do a remake of Tell me on a Sunday ( very underrated) , she’d be perfect for that.
