May I add that french lyrics of this song are stunning . Choice of precise words, their striking power at each successive scene description, the color of the overall picture. Tenderness, bitterness mixed with pride as in “I am who I am that’s it”. Very advance even daring for its time it is a gem.

Thank you for starting to explore Lara's performances. there were only two concerts of En Toute Intimite over two days in Paris in 2003. In my opinion this is possibly the best concert of Lara's career. Her expressive performance of Comme Ils disent should be compared with Aznavour's much more static presentation. Someone rightly said that there is more sex appeal in one of Lara's raised eyebrows in this number than any amount of bare flesh in Las Vegas.

Her first performance of this song on tv it was back in 1995, there's a video here somewhere, she was all dark hair, she used to use dark hair and only black outfits until 1998, well sometimes between 1996 and 1998 she used all White outfits as well, or all in black or all in white. At this older performance the ending note is amazing, she belts and sustained for 8 seconds or more. So dramatic, I love it. Thank you again. I love your reactions.

When Lara sings, "Qui marchent et ondulent", ( in English this basically means "who mince around"), look at her body movement at that instant to illustrate the motion! Be quick, it only lasts half a second!

As Wild Music says, there is so much to say about this song. I could examine each minute, every which way, even with a microscope, and never get bored. Some of my favourite parts of this genius song are, when she sings of her friends "of all sexes" making fun of their enemies as if with "acid", her voice takes on a growly, rather "acidic", rather than usual smooth, tone. When she says "ca gesticule et parle fort"( they gesticulate noisily), her sound changes to mimic activity and loud speaking. Not to mention her amazing facial and body expressions, and her movements over the stage. In the end, you come away from this song rather in sympathy with Lara's predicament, ( and her character probably cares about your reaction). Aznavour's character's much "tighter" performance leaves you cold and indifferent. ( But unlike Lara's, his character doesn't seem to care any more a jot about what you might think of him).

From this same concert I can suggest LA TRAVIATA is incredible how a classic lyric can handle so well! (LARA FABIAN TRAVIATA)
