Laredo is probably the most underlooked city in the US. I live in Laredo, and don't know half of what you are saying. And I thought I knew alot about Laredo. Compared to all the big metropolitan areas in Texas like Austin, San Antonio and El Paso, which are all looked upon as cities with much culture, and they are, but people wont pay attention to a smaller town with richer culture. It's cool that you are one of the only channels on KZfaq that goes into detail about our history.

Yeah, I agree, it’s always the big metropolitan areas that are mentioned in memes, and examples of things. Laredo isn’t a small city, but I think it deserves to be talked about, or maybe even used in some conversation because of its great history.

Back in the early 90s I had a truck route that went from Evansville Indiana down to Laredo and back up. I would leave Evansville in a coat and I would be down there in a T-shirt. Loved the weather! The people were friendly and not to mention the beautiful Latina women. I miss that run to this day

@@luisitogamer78 I can't take seriously an opinion with no name. Don't hide behind a nickname. I've lived in many cities, and visited many other. All cities have their ups and downs. I grew up in the barios of Laredo. But, you know what, all our neighbors were great people. I did not know English, but I learned it and mastered it. I went to Laredo College then TAMIU and graduated and became an expert in my field. I did not complain I just did it. When I visit Laredo I really enjoy watching KGNS news. The Rio Grande Republic was originally the southern part of Texas + the 3 Mexican states of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon & Coahuila... and yes, it short lived as an independent republic in 1840. However... and despite the dissolution, these Mexican 3 states have always maintained a close collaboration in matter of tourism, economy, social / healthcare services, public security, etc... and of course, have kept very close relationships with Texas in matter of tourism, trading & commerce... Remnants of those days when we were a Republic. Greetings from Monterrey! 🤠

I loved history and visited countless historical sites everywhere I went. Now I am an old retired man living back in Texas and I gotta say your Secrets of Texas channel is amazing. Coming back home after all those years I was thinking “oh shit here I am back in boring old Texas”. Well your channel has given me a lot of inspiration to follow your footsteps. Very nice video, I work logistics, like half the town, and go back and forth between Laredo Texas and Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas, both are very nice towns with the exception that Nuevo Laredo (on the Mexican side) has had a prolonged period of unrest due to criminal activities by local gangs, we can only hope to see the end of it in the distant future, both Laredo’s are ever growing and are full of nice people, just las week I learned the story of Colonel Santos Benavides, according to Wikipedia he was the highest-ranking Tejano soldier in the Confederate military and was a Laredoan, he fought in the Battle of Laredo where he repelled 200 Union men led by Major Alfred F. Holt with a force of only 42 Confederate soldiers. He also participated in the Battle of Palmito Hill, the last land battle of the Civil War that was fought just east of Brownsville Texas on the banks of the Rio Grande. Regarding Jarvis plaza, locals also call it “La plaza de los viejitos”, if I’m not mistaking because there are a couple of retirement homes one on each side of the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse building.

There might be those of you (even in our own state) looking on thinking a border town with Mexico is extremely dangerous and unsafe to visit. That is not only not true in the slightest, it is born out by the statistics. Laredo and other border cities in Texas are SAFE. Come down to Laredo to see how friendly the people are and explore the vibrant downtown. You won't find better Mexican food north of here. Im a born and raised Laredoan and it was lovely to see my community through someone else's eyes. Thank you for sharing this great video!

Romans conquered the Greeks by war but Greeks conquered Romans by culture. Laredo is a perfect example. Mexico in the US among the Valley ( Brownsville to Laredo) this region is by far Mexico inside the United States. 95% hispanics, 90% bilingual. In my opinion this region is an example how 2 cultures live in harmony for decades! Not only a few years. Anyone from Laredo can tell you they celebrate Mexican and American holidays. The City doing a 4,th of July very patriotic, not enough? Only city in America that celebrate George Washington Birthday! And at the same time celebrate Mexican independence day as simbol of respect for the heritage culture living among them. Beautiful people down there. Proud to be Mexican-Americans and Texans by all means. ẞ

The few times I’ve been there it seems it has lost some of its vibrancy… many businesses have probably moved to the north side of Laredo which is plain, looks like every other city in the US and lacks the charm and uniqueness of the old Laredo.
