One thing that I figured out later than I wished was to use very small condiment Bowles on each plate for maple syrup. It always uses less than pouring it directly on the food. We now use them for ketchup and BBQ sauce for dipping with the same result. My daughter got some plastic condiment cups from Amazon that slip onto the side of the plate that her children will use any chance they get without realizing it's great portion control.
@threerivershomestead

That is a great idea! I think I will purchase some. A few of my kids will squeeze half the bottle onto their plate and could definitely use the control.

That's a great product, when mine were little I would use the paper cups (tiny little things McDonalds give out so that you can fill them with Ketchup , BBQ sauce etc - not sure if you have in America) I would * acquire them 😂 and use for sauces. They loved the novelty of them and not realise I was controlling the amount. I'm always shocked at how American pour so much maple syrup on pancakes, not in judgment, just that it incredibly expensive in the Uk.

Also for dressing on a salad, if you dip your tines in the dressing, then fork your food, it uses less but tastes good!

I think, too, we try to have more snacks and variety around when everyone is with us. But when we get to be "in charge" of all the things, we can better spend. So it is more expensive to have our family as company.

I really enjoy your videos. You are such a good mom and are so sensible about giving your children "unhealthy treats" every now and then. The vast majority of what y'all eat is very healthy & nutritious and it doesn't hurt them to get something fun now and then. Keep up the good work, mama!

There is nothing wrong with buying things for the children as a treat. I would do this for my children when they where younger & we where always on a tight budget. So I always tried to make sure we had treats for special occasions as we couldn’t really eat out because myself & a few of the kids had allergies.

The Berry Fruitful is my favorite! Takes me back to my childhood. We only ever had oatmeal, eggs, shredded wheat or raisin bran. I would add homemade strawberry jam when I wanted the sweetness. When we visited family in Georgia they had fruity pebbles and I was in shock that it was considered breakfast. It was definitely a culture shock and a sugar rush😂

I am having to watch this video in bits and pieces as I’m busy today!!! We found fresh turkeys at walmart after Thanksgiving for .50 a lb! So we bought 4 19-20lb turkeys and now I’m canning it today. I also have 2 roaster fulls of turkey carcasses for broth going! We have our own chickens, but couldn’t pass up on the price! They also had fresh turkey breast for .36 cents a lb. Got four of those also and froze for sunday dinners.

I love how you break everything down. I’m not concerned whether it’s healthy or not for my family as I know the good food that we do have on hand, and that we preserve is by far better quality than a few convenience items that we buy occasionally. I also love that you share what things that you use for gluten-free or nondairy families. Often it’s hard to find a good resource out there and you have explained so well these items. Having a KZfaq channel like you do and I have myself, we tend to get criticized over certain things we provide for our family. You are a fantastic KZfaqr, and I always send people your way! On another note, I did use your four jars discount code today as the black Friday prices allow you to also use your shopper code. Thank you so much! Have a blessed Christmas and as always laugh as much as you breathe.

Spot on with the empty calories. Not judging anyone, I understand busy families. My grands will get here in the morning after my kids have fed them breakfast and they are always hungry. Grandma makes them sit and eat a good meal with protein and healthy fats. Keeps them out of the kitchen until lunch. God bless the families. I can't imagine having to feed a family in these times.

I like the Aldi frozen vegetables to make beef vegetable soup to can. Will be making a huge pot to can soon. I got 7 quarts of Turkey broth when I made broth from our Thanksgiving Turkey carcass. I bought 4 extra turkeys to can up soon. My husband and I like making Turkey rice soup during the cold winter days with our canned Turkey and broth.

We love shopping at Aldi, and I also get the ketchup there. We live in a town, and I usually make my list based on what is for sale. So our trips are more often, but not that big. But I do stock up a bit when things are on a good deal. And i feel you do not justify any of your purchases. If anyone complains they probably are not regular viewers of your channel and have no clue. Keep doing you. It works for your family, it clearly shows.

It as great to watch your shopping. I appreciate how you share that your kids do get some treats occasionally because it is all about balance. We also love that ketchup and can buy it by the case when it's available. For how much ketchup we use with 10 kids, I can't get enough of the price at Aldi. Also, I thought my kids were the only ones that love sardines, so it was refreshing to hear you share that. Have a great Sunday. ❤❤❤

I've had to really focus on cost and breakdown the better deals lately too. Azure isn't my go to for certain items anymore either which, like you said, the pay off is small packaging. I went into overdrive last month and I'm avoiding the grocery stores now until January. I only order Azure 3x a year so my orders are very large. Everyone at the drop laughs because my name is called out so much😅 but I hate meeting the truck so we do a very large order to make it worth our time. I've been sticker shocked a time or 2 at Aldi though. I have to know how on earth you avoid the Aldi finds aisle 😂 not that I get something everytime but it's definitely a tempting aisle

I buy bulk dried shiitake mushroom from my local Asian market. I will put some mushrooms into a canning jar with water and keep in the fridge so I have mushrooms whenever I want. I have grown shitaki and oyster mushrooms here on the homestead. It’s a great project that the kids will love. I found that I didn’t grow enough mushrooms to have a consistent supply as much as I use them. Give it a go though!

Cafe Bustello is the best. I'm originally from washington state which translates to me enjoying froofy coffee drinks but the only coffee place in this area is Starbucks which is not only expensive but since they removed coffee/espresso in 2009 from their frapp mix i no longer get them for a treat. Cafe Bustello has an instant espresso which beats out all other coffee, ground or instant) for froofy cold coffee drinks. Thanks for sharing your shopping with us.

I have only found organic taco sauce one time and the grocery I purchased from quit carrying it. The brand was Red Duck. I did find an organic enchilada sauce on Thrive Market which I use as taco sauce in our house. We found a company that uses super clean ingredients and don't have soy that bakes fresh breads, granolas, tortillas, cookies, etc. Organic Bread of Heaven is their name. They have sourdough products as well. Purchased twiced from them and they are great!

It’s really eye opening seeing how you grow so much food on farm, but still need to purchase store bought products. Coming from a suburban house where I have raised beds but can’t really grow that much, it’s hard to understand exactly how much work I would have to put it in to grow enough to feed my family for a year, and what I would still need to budget to spend in store. It’s a really interesting conversation. Thank you for sharing !

I love this video. You are great at knowing what to stress over and what to let slide. Like you said some things are gonna hurt to have once in a while. You are a great mom who really cares about what her family eats. Your pantry is stocked and will be ready for the challenge. Love your sweet family Jessica.

I bought a Chefwave nut milker. It only takes 9 almonds or 9 cashews to make roughly (slightly less) a quart of nut milk. There is zero pulp leftover. It was a great investment for me as I am dairy free.

@@pamelaeilf 5 1/2 TBS of unsweetened shredded coconut makes almost a quart. 1 1/2 TBS of oats ( steel cut, rolled, or old fashioned) makes almost a quart.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoy watching all of your videos, especially since we are in a similar growing zone. I'm glad that this is so realistic. Sometimes, I feel guilty when j buy prepared foods for my kids. I feel like I should be making everything from scratch. I have to remember that it's okay to have a break, especially when there are a lot of competing demands. Thanks for all the tips and tricks in your videos!

We recently freeze dried literal pickle chips and it was great! A good replacement for the lays, which admittedly we love too 🫠

Great to see some other options for stocking up. I’m always looking for value and quality. I’m a drop coordinator for Azure so I really enjoy your Azure hauls. No Aldi or Sam’s Club near me however I have Costco available 45 miles away.
