I am sorry cant help but comment on this....but thank you Dick for bringing up her voice. This is clear proof that Julie is well versed in musical studies, and that she has perfect pitch, she correctly picked up that Dick was doing a wrong note trying to demonstrate a middle C. She was spot on!

@yesenadam 4 жыл бұрын
Um, not sure what you mean. He sang a note near C an octave below middle C, and she said it's nearly middle C and she could sing an octave below that?! hehe strange. The note he sang is close to what she said was her lowest note - an octave below middle C. Doesn't prove anything about musical studies either way. But spot on she was not. Maybe she was nervous or didn't want to correct herself, assuming she realized her mistake. Yes I'm sure - I'm a guy (a musician with perfect pitch) and middle C is very high for me, but the C he sang is comfortable and an octave lower. With perfect pitch, hearing which note is sometimes easier than which octave, but that's with very high or low notes. I'm sure she usually would've known that's no middle C!

@@yesenadam you arent clear in your comment. Dick sang a B not a C, and julie basically said thats nearly a middle C...i.e. he was a half tone down. Julie was correct, your grasp in what she said is clearly not.

I noticed that as well after seeing the earlier Cavett interview. So either (a) both had forgotten the earlier interview, just possible I suppose, (b) Julie realised she had heard his story before but went along with it, she couldn't really say 'I've told you already' live on air, (c) there was some pre-interview collusion as to where he was going to steer the interview and the MFL out-of-town premiere was a good story which he really wanted to talk about. (c) would be disappointing in a way but not unknown in celebrity interviews so I hope it was (b). :)

@@chrisnorton4382 watching this again, this was colluded it seems, the first one was a total suprise, you can tell by how they react to each other during that story and it was a fleeting moment this time.

No one ever brings up her topless scene in Duet For One. Saw Julie last night in Atlanta. Amazingly, at age 84 she can sell out a major auditorium in a metropolis.

you've got to question the sense in bringing up a ladies topless scene - not exactly classy

everyone is smitten by her. LOL, Dick Cavett even recalls what she wore backstage in 1957 in New Haven, CT. Hmmm...clearly he is hitting on her LIVE ON TV. HAHAHAHA

Julie Andrews played Eliza in the original stage musical My Fair Lady in 50s. She played that musical for 3.5 years.

Not one mention of The Sound of Music? It's like interviewing Vivien Leigh without mentioning Gone With The Wind.

Probably to Julie's great relief. I discussed pre-interview collusion below. This interview was basically to publicise her new Victor Victoria film. Maybe Julie asked Dick to steer clear of the Sound of Music and talk about her other performances. He was happy to oblige, if he could talk again about his My Fair Lady out-of-town premiere experience. I am sure she appreciated an opportunity to get off the beaten "Sound of Music" interview track for a change.

@@chrisnorton4382 Maybe, but he did talk about Mary Poppins. But that was her breakout role which earned her an academy award. I guess one popular movie was enough.
