Larry Gene Bell abducted, raped, and murdered two young girls in South Carolina then taunted the family of one of the victims with phone calls as he obsessed about her sister. The FBI was able to identify Bell through a psychological profile and the impression of a phone number written on a page from the same pad he forced the girl to write a letter to her parents.
The FBI Files is an American television docudrama series. Each episode describes actual FBI cases which include murder, narcotics, bank robberies, and kidnapping as well as other crimes. These are portrayed through dramatic reenactments and interviews with agents and forensic scientists who worked on the investigations.

I saw this story on forensic files about 16 years ago and I never forgot it. This among other stories is why I became a police officer. I know I can’t do much about all the evil in the world but at least once in my career I hope to intentionally or unintentionally thwart some type of evil

Thumbs up for the FBI profiler or behavioral scientist. I always love it when they get into the minds of criminals. Most times they are right about criminals. Indeed criminals are lily livered. They have low self esteem . They are afraid to die yet can take lives. it is good to put them behind bars but the society should identify and help them integrate very well into the main society. Further more we all have to be vigilant about people within our communities with certain strange behaviors

New Yaark - 1985- South Carolina - Young girls keep disappearing and a serial killer on the loose. First Sharie Smith 17 years old disappeared from her own house driveway. Her father saw her park her car and going to check the mail box when she vanished. Then later the kidnapper or the abductor called the missing girl’s parents. The FBI Profilers stepped in. Six days later Sharie’s body was found in the location the killer told the parents. Later another small girl named Debra, nine years old who was playing in the garden was abducted and she too was killed by the abductor who was now focusing his attention on Dawn, Shari’s sister.

Unimaginably disparing for the Taunt family. To lose a child or a most dear one is probably the worst a human being can experience, or it is to any intelligent animal. Even more it's a cracked irony that their own religious faith was an important issue for the killer, though he obviously was fanatic and psychotic, which is never a good thing. It must also have taken strenght to agree to let their story be part of this series and be dramatized.

@@WeatherMoon Why should we pay to keep these subhumans alive for decades, at over a million bucks per prisoner on death row for all that time? They have nothing to offer society and never will have......and plenty of innocent people have gotten life in prison too.....but with DNA and forensics where they are now there should be no mistakes. And where there is doubt, however slim, the accused can be kept alive pending further investigation.....the ones who are 100 % guilty should die......as one FBI profiler put it, they know they can play the system for decades, costing the tax payer multi millions, knowing they are more likely to die of old age than execution. He said if they knew they were going to die immediately after sentencing, they way they do in many countries, they would think twice before they took innocent lives for thrills.
@juanitarichards1074
@juanitarichards1074 2 жыл бұрын
@@WeatherMoon It deters them in Saudi Arabia and Iran and other countries where the death penalty is carried out immediately after the trial and conviction. No 30 years on death row playing the system and costing the tax payers multi millions per prisoner for decades. No parole. No time off for good behaviour. No such thing as bail.....you can be locked up for years and years before you even have a trial. Serious criminals in the USA are laughing.......most of death row will die of old age or disease before they are executed and they know it. FBI profilers who knows these killers so well say that the death penalty would be a greater deterrent if they knew they were going to die immediately after sentencing. In countries where the death penalty is carried out swiftly, they have a low crime rate......

If Bell didn’t call the Smiths at all, could he still have been caught? Would he have gotten to Dawn instead of Debra? Without the calls, the Sheppards would not have heard the voice on the tapes. Maybe it would have taken longer to apprehend Larry & more lives might have been lost (brunettes targeted instead of blondes for example). And would Larry have killed Dawn if he had kidnapped her? There are some people that survived kidnapping via release, escape, or rescue. But such survivors could be broken & devastated; difficult to repair. Liz Smart, Kara Robinson, & Lisa McVey Noland have told their stories numerous times; sometimes together.
