@@-x.z-x8032 He's done it before, looking at his glove while he winds it up to belt the opponent. Was it Cooney? I can't recall but I mean why would he call the ref over to stop it and continue to hit Frazier with bomb after bomb. It actually makes no sense to consider her was calling him over. Holmes in the last rounds of his fight with Ali was Holmes withholding his power. He wasn't withholding anything here to my mind.

Before anyone pisses on Marvis as a fighter...he beat James Broad (former top 5 contender), Quick Tillis (the first fighter to take Tyson the distance), Jose Ribalta (who fought Tyson twice), Bonecrusher Smith (WBA champion), and Joe Bugner (challenger to Ali). He wasn't a joke. He was just limited as a boxer. He finished 19-2. The other loss was a first round KO to Tyson.

The late great sports historian and boxing expert, Bert Randolph Sugar, once said that Marvis Frazier's most dangerous concern wasn't Larry Holmes or Mike Tyson; it was his father Joe. Joe thought his son could be an all-time great like himself. He even tried to stare down opponents on behalf of his son in a compensatory effort. Joe himself, just before he died, would have been a more major threat to the Holmes and Tyson than his son ever was.

i really admire his style cause he was a scientific boxer and i prefer much more class than power. His footwork is not as good as Ali's, but his left gab is just perfect, his right poweful hand to finish his opponents is amazing, and the wondeful defense reflexes by mouving his head and body so fast rank him in the top 10 greatest with no contest. Classy boxer for sure. I can absolutely understand his bitterness latley when he became older He never had the respect he should have, mainly cause he fouught Ali when he was weak and all Ali fanboys ( with the help of the medias ) hated him for that. Anyway, One of the most underrated boxer ever !

Marvis Frazier wasn't for nothing. He beat "Bonecrusher" Smith, "Quick" Tillis (first guy to take Mike Tyson the distance), Bernard Benton (a cruiserweight champ), and even a still-dangerous Joe Bunger, a top-rated contender from the Ali/Frazier days, who took both of them the distance. If he wasn't Joe Frazier's son, he would've been known as just another good journeyman, which is nothing to be ashamed of, especially in the era of Holmes and Tyson.

At his peak I am not sure any heavyweight fighter was better than Larry. He was the complete package. Size, strength, reach, power and the ability to take a big punch. It's a shame Larry didn't remain retired the first time. He was never the same when he returned. Sadly pride comes before the fall. Foreman's jabs are vicious as well. And very nice to look at. Very concussive. One sparring partner described being hit with a Foreman jab as taking novacane to the entire face.

First: Larry wasn't bitter at all, he liked Ali and Frazier and he pround and thankfull to spar with them. Second: Larry's record wasn't better then Ali's. It's isn't about how many times you win, it's about WHO you beat. Ali beat up better opposition.

When you hit a man with as many unanswered punches as Holmes hit Marvis with, the ref shouldn't have to wait til Marvis hits the floor. Should have stepped in a lot sooner. Poor job by Mills.

I hated Holmes back then. I wanted him to lose every time he fought. I thought he was arrogant. I was wrong,. He just wanted the respect he so rightfully deserved. I consider Holmes to be one of the greatest heavyweight champions of all time. Top 5 easily. Maybe even top 3.

Larry Holmes was at the top of his game at this time in his career. That hammer-like left jab followed up with this right spelled good night for many fighters. Marvis was just one of many that Holmes beat by way of TKO. That said, Marvis Frazier was a good fighter, a clean fighter, and a successful fighter. He ended his career with a 19-2 record. He beat some very good fighters in his career, like James Quick Tillis, Joe Bugner, and a couple of other top 10 heavies in his career. Too many people in boxing tend to write Marvis off as a fighter because of his 2-KO's in the 1st round. Those two fights loss was against heavyweight powerhouses like Champ Larry Holmes and Future Champ Mike Tyson. A 19-2 record ain't bad in anyone's book, especially mine.

I noticed that holmes used his left jabs to do some light punches and also as bait against marvis frazier, BUT it is his monstrous right jab that sent frazier down the canvass. Just one big punch from the right jab.

Larry Holmes was COASTING at this point in his career, giving shots to inexperienced upstarts like Marvis Frazier (who was a decent heavyweight, but probably could've been the cruiserweight division's first star); David Bey; Bonecrusher Smith and Tim Witherspoon...who actually surprised him. He was avoiding all of the more difficult fights out there: Pinklon Thomas, Greg Page, Michael Dokes, guys like that. Holmes is great, but the last few years of his reign were relatively soft.

+Onur Dogan The Holmes that fought Tyson was so far over the hill he was under it. It wasn't so much his age, as his lack of activity. He had not been in the ring in 2 years and took the fight on short notice. He was noticeably out of shape. Holmes at 42 was in much better shape and much better prepared.

Another thing the Marvis bashers forget is that in the mid-to-late 80s, the Cruiserweight division topped off at 190. Marvis was at 200 for this fight and 210 for the Tyson fight...he regularly weight in between those. Nowadays, he would have been a Cruiserweight boxer, and he was probably good enough to have won a title at that weight.
