@kc1973able
@kc1973able Жыл бұрын
Yes your right about us Brits not giving big Joe any credit as he was a good defensive fighter and he was technically a lot better than we gave him credit for. The British public never forgave him for beating our Henry Cooper in a controversial win for the British heavyweight tittle fight way back in 1970. Joe Bugner really was the Peter Pan of boxing he was in the game from 1967-1998 😳. Been in with some good and great! Fighters 🥊

@@kc1973able i have seen the cooper fight many times the british title was fought at 15 rounds in those days , which today is more than boxers go , when i was under 25 i thought cooper won now i watch it i think bugner won , it should have been a draw , but the truth is Bugner was a much better fighter , he fought he went 15 and a 12 with Ali , and went the distance with frazier and Lyle . two fighters Henry would not have lasted 5 rounds with and even was offered a fight with frazier when he was champion and his management and cooper turned it down

@@garysmith5641 I agree Bugner turned out to be the better class boxer than Cooper. A Draw easily could have been the right verdict 👍. No, I didn't. Note that I said 'decent fighter' and not 'world champion pedigree'. I think that a TKO in 1984 against James 'Bonecrusher' Smith, a man who took Tyson the distance three years later, still qualifies Marvis for the description 'decent' don't you think? @@BrooklynAvenue

It really annoys me how much the Brit commentators, and to a large extent, the public, never gave Joe the credit he deserved. OK, he didn't have much of a punch, but he was courageous, had a good jab and an excellent defence. I wish Joe all the luck, and don't blame him for going to Aus where he thankfully is appreciated.Yes, he lost this one but put up a good strong show IMO.

I believe that to build little Frazier's career Bugner was told not to fight. Bugner's career was all but over, there was probably a payout to Bugner that wasn't on the books. Even at this stage of Bugner's career with his experience, he was was a far better fighter than his performance in this match against little Frazier. I don't think little Frazier would have been aware of this but I believe his father would have been.

I'm watching the first round and I can already see the Burner is waiting too much on Frazier ! Joe should be using the jab more and striking first more ! Also should be tying Frazier up better when Frazier drives him back to the ropes ! Bugner also should be occasionally trying to put Frazier on the the ropes instead of letting Frazier bull him around the ring.

Very disappointing to see, unjustifiably bitter, Henry Cooper still holding a massive grudge against Bugner. If the result in his fight with Joe had been a robbery his angst would be more understandable. However, after all this time, to not even give Bugner the nod on rounds he clearly won is pure acidity and childishness. Cooper should, by now, have got over the decision and given credit where it was due, it wasn't Joe who decided the, close, result. Bugner was not given the credit he deserves and, in my opinion, was a much better boxer than his achievements would suggest. I think he displayed a vital lack of the killer instinct needed to progress to the height his skill and speed, as a heavyweight, deserved. He's suffering terribly with dementia in an Australian home at the moment and, apparently, doesn't even remember his boxing career. I loved the comment about him being pleased when someone recognised him at the airport. What a nice humble guy he is. God bless you Joe.

I've watched this twice and realised, if confirmation were needed, Reg Gutterage is extremely biased towards Frazier and gives no credit whatsoever to Bugner's control, speed, jabs, combinations, uppercuts etc. I think he was shitting himself because he was sat next to Cooper and didn't fancy Henry's left hook if he said anything about Joe in a positive sense. He was probably too busy tossing "Our ennery." off. Brown nosing twat that Gutteridge was.
