Interested in getting a laser cutter for leather craft. Does it leave a charred edge that prohibits proper finishing, or have you found that it doesn't have a significant impact on the edges?

+snawlaud If you are sanding your edges anyway after putting the pieces together there is no difference at all. The char is very surface level and comes off pretty easy especially if using a dremel burnisher or something like that.

What settings are used for these cuts? I'm planning on building a Roper wallet from your template for Christmas for the father of my first HS sweetheart and need help. I'm a stroke survivor and hand-cutting isn't an option due to left-side paralysis, so everything has to be done with my no-name K40. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Hope you're enjoying this great fall weather!

How many watts is your K40? I have a 65W and if the leather is 3-4oz or less I do something like 60% power and 18 speed.

Hello, nice video, when I cut leather with laser I have the problem that the burning dust inside the stiching holes stain the treath, do you have a tip for this?

Yes this is unavoidable to an extent. The only options are to clean the inside of each hole with compressed air or a q-tip or use darker thread. White thread is hard to keep clean. I also wipe down the stitches with a clean cloth after Im finished. That helps a lot.

+Christy M I do everything in adobe illustrator. Works out well since thats what the laser operates on as well.

i just had a test piece cut and it still smells bad hours later. how long before that smell of burnt flesh goes away? wouldn't want a customer to be turned off by that.

I cant speak for all leathers but Ive noticed it going away after a few days. After that I couldnt smell anything at all.

It's a Trotec Speedy 300 Flexx, which has both fiber and C02 tubes.

Cutting Cordovan with a laser is leather sacrilege. That stuff should be totally hand crafted IMHO. But, you've bought it, so do what you like with it.
