Hey Mike, I've been in the full time laser business for 20 years and pretty knowledgeable about lasers. I admit I don't do lots of photo engraving and found your lesson very informative and helpful. Your comments about low quality compressed images is bang on. The only thing I may be confused about is your comment on 72 dpi being low quality. Most high end phones like Samsung shoot great photos for engraving at 72 dpi but are large format so they engrave very nice for me, I'm even finding professional photographers shooting at 72 dpi. Aside from that I would really like to see a video on matching dpi to the lens size, I see people trying to engrave at 600 dpi with 2" lenses and obviously that is a mistake. Thanks for the excellent tutorial Mike it was exactly what I was looking for and with a little tweaking in my settings ( I have a 40 w ) the result came out perfect!

Hi Mike, question. if I have done all the steps to prep my image for engraving, but I want to use it again later, in what format will I save it to be ready for use in my laser machine at a later stage?

Good day Mike. I hope you are well. I am trying to Engrave a photograph on 3mm mdf and I'm just not getting it right (running out of test wood) I have played with the power settings and speed settings too. I have watch so many videos on KZfaq and still not getting it rite. Is there anyway that you could do a video on engraving on 3mm mdf wood? I have a PLT 3040 50W laser the best results I got is with the following : Speed 300 Power 10 Laser point is 11mm from the material (not to sure if that makes a difference, I'm sure it should) If there's any answers you can give me I will highly appreciate it. I unfortunately do not have the money for Photograve right now as I started my engraving business about 4 months ago. Apologies for the long comment. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
