hello there! can you give me some advice I currently have a second hand prolight controller linked to a basic 1.5w laser soon im upgrading to the HarpeLaser controller but im a bit unsure what watt to buy....would a 3w be too weak...a 10w too powerful? i want something thats sensible yet room to expand into

First use more haze. I have never had a problem with my 2.5W being clearly visible in medium size venues so long as there is plenty haze. For large venues I usually ask for an appropriate laser to be provided since large venues usually have a laser person available.

Hello, I am currently building a laser harp and the prototypes are working well. The one issue is the laser. The beams aren't visible on their own so I was wondering. Where did you get your lasers from. Thanks!

Is there anything I should know regarding laser safety? Given that the lasers used with laser harps typically are Class 4, they are not only dangerous for the eyes, but could even be a fire hazard and burn the skin. This kind of has me second guessing whether I should get a laser harp or not.

+James Lewis yes, but as I said in the video it is very sensitive to the environment (ambient lighting etc) and requires a lot of set up time. So I don't tend to use this for live shows very often.

Here I assumed it worked by a reflector sensor at the bottom measuring the strength of the reflected laser beam. Does this mean you won't get any reading other than "not has been hit"? If you measured the strength, you could get more variations, much like with a theremin.
@ThereminHero7 жыл бұрын
+morphman86 lasers don't loose enough strength over such short distances to measure
@morphman867 жыл бұрын
Having used quite a lot of laser measuring instruments over the years, I can tell you that yes, they do. They loose enough strength that you can read the strength of it when it's aimed at a window, convert to audio and listen to what people inside are saying. If it can measure the vibration of a window, which is like 1/10th of a micrometre, I'm fairly certain you can measure a halfing of it's beam with at least some accuracy :)
@ThereminHero7 жыл бұрын
You are right that these instruments are able to do that, but my understanding is that the beam is formed in a more precisely measurable way. With these "laser show" lasers, it is more difficult because the source has not been calibrated for measuring distance. I could be wrong though!
@morphman867 жыл бұрын
It's harder, yes, but still possible. The method you showed here is probably half the price or less (and I'm guessing that's still not cheap). The method is pretty much the same, but instead of a light sensor, it would be a reflective sensor (which is a lot more expensive). You still measure the time it was hit to find the note, but with that you can also measure the distance to the hand. Another route to go would be to have two light sensors at a known distance apart and write a controller program that triangulates where the beam hits. It would save a lot of money, but can be trickier to program and requires a very precise measurement (down to at least 5mm) every time you set it up.

His laser harp controller comes from KromaLaser... Its not a kit, you plug in a ILDA controlled laser projector (not supplied) midi cables, foot switch and light sensor (supplied) set it up through a synth or software and off you learn...
