I'm on the ten-th year of my X3 original battery. Not using start-stop or coming home leaving home crap. I'm thinking replacing it just in case, but i might do a battery test first.

Great video! Changed my battery in my 2013 today and used a new Zurich ZR13s to do the battery reset. Worked perfectly! Not cheap to do this, but still saved a bunch of money by staying out of a shop or the stealership. 👍👍

Thank you for the video! Dealer quoted me $550 and told me to leave car overnight, but I got it done for $220 under 1 hour, saved me $320!! No code/error message whatsoever on my F25 X3 sdrive28i. Thank you!!!

Battery replacement on a BMW can be very expensive. Nice Tutorial. I'm lucky when I replace mine I can use the MHD tune to reset the battery adaptation.

I thought about getting the MHD ODB2 Adapter but this scan tool would be universal to the other cars at home

Great tutorial! Bought my own ODB2 reader (Z13RS for $170), installed the new battery & registered it to the ECU... very quick and easy. Oh btw, the dealer wanted to charge me $270 dollars to install/register it.... Thanks again! [pwg]

I got the Zurich 13S but it would not let me register my new battery! I’m going to have to go through the steps again very slowly to see if I miscued the order of buttons.

Great instructional video! I feel like trying this myself! However, I do not want to do the process of taking out the battery and replacing it. I just contacted the dealership today and their cost to replace my battery in my BMW X3 is $475 plus tax! I do not want to pay them that much! Thanks for making this video!

I checked with the dealership, their price was $525 plus tax...I took it to Advance Auto Parts and got it all done for $235! The whole process took about 20 minutes. Dealership told me it was very technical and would take about 1.5 to 2 hours!

Dom- Great video ! Thank you. Two questions . . . you reset the battery registration. What about the radio or other items? And did you consider connecting a battery tender/maintainer while making the swap?

Thanks. You can recharge it to some degree with a battery tender / charger. I use a CTek MUS 4.3 Charger. It’s a good idea to check the battery annually, and put a conditioning charge on it. It will help to maintain a healthy battery and prolong its life a bit.

Great video to plan my needed size tools ahead, easy to follow steps for my 2016 X3 battery swap. My local harbor freight had the Zurich ZR13S. I’m not sure what the exact difference is with the 13S, but I followed the steps in the video to register my new battery and it wouldn’t allow me to.

Great video, Dom. Will this "clear" all the dash lights that come on after replacing the battery, such as the 4x4, emergency brake, etc.? I have a 2007 X3 and the dealership just told me it "might be the transfer case". LOL, I had the transfer case replaced three years ago and there are ZERO symptoms of a problem with the T.C. (jolting, lagging). If this works to reset and clear those dash lights, I would be very happy indeed. Thanks again for the video! - Anthony

After replacing the batter in both my 335 and the X3 I didn’t get any lights or error codes. I’m not certain if this device will, but I’ve seen several videos where codes and error messages have been cleared.

Tried the ZR13 with the latest firmware to register the battery in a 2017 X3 M35i and the screen, after turning the car off and back on again, read "This Function is Not Supported for this vehicle". Any suggestions?

Terminal 15 is the ignition relay. It's just telling you that the ignition must be on.

Hi Dom-iY .....did you take any precautions to provide an alternative power supply to retain your settings on your X3 once you had disconnected the original battery.

I actually did Brian, however I forgot to mention it on camera. I connected a small battery tender to the jump terminals under the hood.

What about the difference in Amp Hours? your old battery was 105AH and your new one was 100AH?

I changed my battery out without programing it....I just made sure cc amp and amp hours were exactly the same as the original battery.

So you don't have to keep a jumper or something to save charge for the computer not to reset while you replace the battery?

If I remove battery on my 2013 x3 x28i, with n20 engine to replace will my car start again after new battery is installed? Does it need programing because am going to use original oem battery?

It should start however certain computer items may not function properly. Yes it has to be programmed. The vehicle computer needs to know that a new battery was installed, even if it’s an OEM battery. They’ll tell you the same at the dealer. Good luck

@@DomiY thank you very much sir. I am experiencing transmission malfunction notification every time when am at full stop with start/stop. Many guys I spoke with said it's a battery. Because car runs and drives just fine. I don't know how to check production date of the battery?

@@SamoSloga if the label is still on the old battery you can find the manufacturer date on it. If not, maybe your local dealer or shop can figure it out.

In most cases the vehicle will run, however, you will experience error lights and codes for other components in the vehicle.

Great video, just what I needed to know the LOE in changing my wife’s 2012 X3 XDrive 28i battery. The battery has never been changed, and console reports “Charge Battery” when car is turned off, and recommends that we drive it to charge the battery. The “Charge Battery” comes on after a day or two of being parked. Since the battery is close to 10 years in use, I figured it’s time to change without even checking cranking value. Had an estimate done at our local BMW repair shop - using a comparable Bosch battery - out the door quote at $450. I’m willing to do everything your video suggested, however, cost of Zurich 13 programmer and time expended (plus a teenie concern over something going wrong) has got me on the fence. Wish u were my neighbor friend. What do u think about the quote at $450?

Quick info from the BMW manual: after registering a new battery, leave the car alone for 3 hours so that she could fully adjust her electrical brains to the new battery conditions.

All your tool did was register the date/mileage of battery install. If you have different size capacity battery you have to program the new capacity separately. Cheap amazon tools can't do it

I have a 2011 BMW X3 xdrive28i it’s giving me a “battery discharging while stopped” message does this mean I need a new battery?

Not necessarily, you should stop by your local AutoZone, or mechanic, and have them run a test on it. It’s a free service, and they can determine if your battery is charging sufficiently. There are other factors that could cause the message such as software issues, but given the age of the vehicle, if your battery was never replaced, it’s probably that. Good luck.

thumbs down for me, you did not show us how to remove the negative terminal. Your hand blocked it and you did not show how to deal with the sleeve that locks it in place even though one loses it, also it doesn't lose all the way, you did not show if we force it to loosen all the way or if we pry it with something at a certain point. If you are going to make videos show all the important steps, don't skip any. Same mistake on the positive clamp, you did not show the steps.
