To be fair expert studies have shown that cousins having sex/having children is no more likely to produce genetic defects than two strangers doing it. That is provided the pairing only happens ONCE. When you get cousins/ Family members breeding together over and over again like in THAT"s when you the kind of screwed-up inbreeding you would often see in the royal family of Europe. I still find it kind of creepy (no doubt to the cultural norms in which I was raised) but to each their own. That being said, it should be pointed out that cousin incest differs from brother-sister incest and/or parent/child incest. Of course, if you grew up with your second cousins, that's a different factor which can make it icky, but most people don't, and most people don't check their respective lists of great-grandparents for overlap before getting intimate.
