Oliver could have also pointed out that coming out the second world war, the UK's national debt was twice it's GDP. Of course it's debt never went down, just as ours hasn't, instead the GDP grew with growth and inflation and that huge debt became something not worth worrying about - the same joke Mike Myers made with Dr Evil demanding 100 billion dollars in 2010 and getting yawns.

We can’t print our way of this forever, the nation debt has grown by 8% a year through deficit gaps we got to fill so GDP would need to grow by that much or more over the next decade and estimates say it would only grow by 2-3%
