Lata Mangeshkar is a legend. Kaushiki Chakraborty is a fine singer. Let us use the term legend for the really legendary and other words of appreciation for other talents.

@@sulaganabiswas i think you don't know kaushiki chakrabarty well. She is daughter of pandit Ajoy Chakraborty the legend Indian classical music vocalist. She is from patiyala Gharana. Indian classical music is much more ahed from playback. She highly trained classical Singer and any traind classical singer is more respected than any playback singer. Lataji is legend of playback world but lataji himself can't sing all khayal gayki like kaushiki. Yet lataji is also learn classical music but she had learned basic classical. But kaushiki has learned the detail classical. Watch her Darbar rag vedio. How she has taken sargam and taan in that. In the same way kaushiki can't give voice expression like lataji. Not even any playback singer can't match the level of lataji. Both playback and Indian classical are different fields. But all legends has learned the classical music in their bigning. So both kaushiki and lataji is incomparable. Irony is that just because classical music is not that popular so people are unaware with the essence of Indian classical music.

If you go through her songs deeply, you can find her pure classical based songs, bandish, taraanas. As an avid music lover, I can tell you if she had been only a classical singer, all of the female classical singers at that time wouldn’t have stood a chance.
