When I was a teenager, my dad had a shortwave radio on the kitchen table and we would listen to all the 80 meter AM boat anchor guys every night (W2VJZ, WA1HLR, etc...). After I got licensed, I've never really made an AM contact because I always felt it was reserved for the guys running "real" radios. It looks like you had some fun with it and makes me want to give it a try sometime.

I've had a good experience with the ICOM 7300. I'm sure the modern rigs aren't as ideal for it as older ones, but it's still fun to try some of the time. I do want to give AM a shot on 10m and 6m sometime, which I think might be really interesting with an opening. Thanks for watching!

Not boring at all. My one AM contact was with a station running all pre 60's equipment. Great audio!

Cool vid, the novelty of AM probably helped fill the log as well. :-)

I got 31 in the log in an hour, which is the most I've ever done on AM. It's tended to be a challenge in the past, both finding an open frequency with enough space, and getting contacts. But you never know how it'll go unless you give it a shot. Thanks for watching!!

It’s funny because this all started with Shane making a comment about it on Clubhouse. Whether it’s AM, CW, Meshtastic, microwave bands, whatever, it’s always good to see others trying new and different things. That’s what the hobby is about.

All it takes is just the push of a button, LOL. I get that it’s not efficient and takes a lot of bandwidth, but it can be fun to try once in a while. Hopefully others seeing it will encourage more to try it out.

When I spot myself, it'll spot as AM if I put that in the comments, so it won't show up in POTA under SSB--someone would need to select Voice or AM on the spotting page to see me. But those spinning the dial on SSB might still hear me, without seeing the spot, and think that I'm SSB and not AM. Still, it's worth it to try from time to time.

Nice job Mike ! Early spring I got some 10 meter AM on POTA . I got a 10 meter repeater aw well but contact does not count POTA but was fun. I have done 2 meter AM and SSB with some FT8 but not POTA . I have done some 160 meter AM in the winter a few years back. that a night band. AM/FM will take some battery power . FT8 does as well. nice pics of park. NY has very nice parks. 73
