hi friends! Just pinning a note here to let you know that I've been sick this week and have missed several filming days, so videos might be a bit thin on the ground for a while 😭 This is the last one I had filmed before getting sick. I'll be back as soon as I can! In the meantime, I've been more active on Instagram because it's something I can do from bed, so make sure you're following me there: instagram.com/hannahlouiseposton/

I love wearing this pairing a tight/revealing piece with a voluminous one look! It has basically become my go-to for the past few years but in my case what I love showing off is my back because I have this huge gorgeous tattoo there. And I'm a huge fan of pj's as outfits! My favourite pants used to be pj's and they're just the most beautiful and comfortable piece I own. On another note, it's quite fun how each of us have different comfort colors when it comes to the outfits we wear we're not feeling our best. For you it's black, for me it's white. Now, when it comes to how I've been dealing with my wardrobre, a while ago I separated many pieces I felt like decluttering and I realised that I didnt wear some of them even though I love their fit because of the colors they were in. I started dyeing and painting and customizing them and not only I discovered a new hobbie, I now have "new" pieces that I truly love. I think that would be my tip to anyone who might read this: try customizing pieces you feel that have the potential to become something you really enjoy wearing!

Your lesson on the sandals and bag both being in black made me think of shoes that I have to wear with a matching belt (bought separately, second-hand), and how much I wear my animal print ballet flats since they match my black and brown accessories. I usually have classic pieces in my chose colors, and have come to get great joy from the animal print shoe I was previously unsure about.

I am forever in awe of how good you are at dressing for your body. Everything you wear is so visually pleasing on your body type/shape and your looks are always so cohesive. I'm sure it took time but you also just seem to have an inherent sense of what looks good on you

I love the "all black and a statement x" concept! One shopping strategy that has turned out to serve me really well over the years (especially as I experiment and get to know my style better) is that, in general, if it's the first one of a type of item that I'm buying - eg. linen pants - I buy it in black. It's the easiest to style, it can be incorporate into a statement look or it can be dressed down, and it has the highest likelihood of being something I'll actually and learn whether I like it or not. I've bought my first of lots of things in like, hot pink, for example, and if it's a new style of garment as well, I'm not always totally comfortable with it yet, so the new item paired with the bold color makes it incredibly hard to style and I never end up reaching for it! Then I'll end up thinking, well, I guess linen pants aren't for me! When it was really the I was shying away from. My philosophy is that if you love it in black, you can always find it in another color once you learn how you like to wear it! I've regretted lots of LOUD color purchases in the past, but I've never regretted buying something in black! (Not to mention that black is timeless, so it's most likely to always feel chic and stylish)

What wonderful combos! I remember when I was growing up and shopping as a teenager (graduated from high school 1975) it was a BIG "no no" to put red and pink together, especially for redheads. All of these outfits are wonderful, I clutched my pearls at outfit 5, the most perfect example of an item being used for its not original intent. I love how you have altered my mind on colors together. I have two Polene bags on my wish list because of your taste.

Hooray for sleepwear out in the world! One of my fave going out outfits is a 1930s apricot rayon slip with a matching silk bed jacket from that same era. The textures are different enough and the bedjacket looks enough like a fancy top and provides extra coverage and makes it workable. I wear it with jewelry, an evening bag and heels and tights to make it more evening appropriate. To wear it more casually I pair it with a cut off sweatshirt and tennis shoes or dad sandals.

Although my style is nothing like Hannah's (I wear pretty much exclusively black) one of my favourite things to get variety is texture. Jeans and knit, teddy and sweat, felt and silk. There is sooo much variety in texture out there even with a constraint as big as only one color. It can really make an outfit interesting and might add something it was otherwise lacking. (and might be worthwhile exploring for someone who has not yet concerned themselves with this much, as my personal insight to pass on :) Oh and on an all black outfit + a statement piece, I love colourful eyeshadow as the statement, black clothes really make it stand out!

I totally agree with what you said about consciously choosing matching colors between your shoes and bags. I have always applied it to my shoes and pants though. For me I have shoes and a sandal that are brown/beige, something almost my skin color. I also have more than one brown/beige pants. It makes dressing up way easier since I absolutely love wearing colorful and patterned clothes as well. With beige pants + sandals, I can wear a red, blue, green, or orange top. I personally don't really care about matching with a bag though hahaha. I haven't really explored accessories.

This was a fun vid to reinforce and remember some things about my fashion choices. I'm not a bag person, but I like having a nice bag that fits my wardrobe. I seem to be really picky, so I only have 2 expensive (to me) bags that I use all the time, which are my Fossil Sydney Satchel in the medium brown shade and a crochet bag from the Sak in a light rainbow-ish pattern. Both are suited to my functional needs, particularities about pockets and zippers, and how they fit in w my lifestyle and wardrobe. They suit me so well, I'm not even attracted to other bags bc they aren't as perfect. 😅 I agree that some choices are not easily explainable logically, but I think emphasizing that thinking over these choices for a while is important as a key step to preventing over consumption. One illogical makeup choice I mulled over was the orange Em Cosmetics blush, Faded Clementine. I recently ordered it bc I still wanted to try it after 6 months. I watched ur TFD vid about not buying dupes of things u already have and I do have other orange blushes, but I still really wanted to try this formula and I was willing to sacrifice ~$30. I won't know if the illogical choice will pay off until I get it, but at least I thought over the pros and cons for a few months. 😅 One thing that really piqued my interest recently that I passed on after mulling it over for only 2-3 weeks was the Sigma Alice palette. Now going to mull over the Battybean Hallobean palette for at least another few weeks.

I think maybe using inspiration from makeup colors in fashion is great. I think I mentioned in another comment that a rusty color is beautiful with blue. The Nubian 2 opened my eye to this with the copper color and blue color. They pair beautifully together. In a take my breath away sort of way, though I rarely wore the look. So, color theory really. It makes sense that rust or copper is beautiful with blue, since they're opposites on the wheel. I've been so inspired by color stories in palettes only to learn that I don't actually want those colors on my eyes. Incorporating those colors I am attracted to in fashion instead I think is really fun.

Yeees! I ALWAYS love the encouragement of outfits as jumping off inspirations, and breaking down style elements for broader applications. And what’s so fun is how many ideas can come from one launch point. For example: with your first outfit, you mentioned that it reminded you that you don’t always have to go monochromatic. What’s fun is that I basically never go monochromatic - I break up my different colors with neutrals - but when saw your first outfit and actually thought, “OH! I should trying breaking up my different colors with YET MORE COLOR.” Hahah. Love these clothing vids!

I am so here for following your gut feeling of love for some pieces! It's always best to be rational about your purchases, and I always try to picture at leaat three different ways to wear a garment before I decide to buy it, but sometimes, getting a piece that is a bit different for you but makes your heart sing is the absolute best! It can really refresh your way of dressing and often curbs my short-lived enthusiasm for an even shorter-lived new trend going around. One of my favourite pieces of clothing is this ochre-coloured, high-collared velvet top with an almost puffy sleeve. My friend held it up to me while vintage shopping, and I almost dismissed it because usually I gravitate towards blacks, reds, purples, and maybe the occasional emerald green or sapphire blue, and my style is very inspired by alternative, grunge, punk, queer subculture. But something in me loved that top and I still absolutely adore it and have worn it a ton! Sometimes beauty just doesn't want to be rationalised, and every once in a while, it's worth it to follow your instincts.

Hannah, I would love to see more about how you reconcile these "unusual" color combinations in your outfit planning. As a tan olive girl who is only recently getting into bright colors, I often struggle with how to pair bright prints or solids with my more muted, earth-toned basics. I often find the clash overwhelming, but somehow you have managed it with the first pink + rust outfit. Tell us your secrets!! Also, I love the idea you presented in the outro, of sharing and transacting in ideas and knowledge rather than in particular purchasable items. More, more!

I really like how you embrace the colors you're most drawn to! I have residual thoughts from my teen years that I shouldn't "wear so much black, try some color" so I find myself trying to buy the color that's not black, burgundy, or grey, even though that's usually the one I want. Not that I can't branch out, but that I don't have to change the staples that work for me because they're not to someone else's taste

Olive green with blush pink has been my color blocking go-to for the last several seasons. Part of what has made the pink more versatile is similar to one of your tips: to match a blush bag, I got a pair of blush sneakers. It is so much easier to make the color look intentional and a casual outfit look pulled together when I grab those two (well, three) items.

I like having statement jackets, kimonos, wraps, vests & dusters with everything else being a "basic." I don't do as much black, especially head to toe black as I once did, but I do tend to stick with a monochromatic palette & add layers of interest. I am drawn to embellishments & details like beading, embroidery, soutache trim, contrasting trim, specialty buttons, lace & patterns in my statement pieces since I cannot wear jewelry due to a life long nickel/ metal allergy. I also like hair ornaments, gloves & patterned hosiery for special ocassions. A vintage (looking) or beaded hand bag--yes please. If it looks like something Kate Bush or Stevie Nicks would have worn circa 1978, I'll probably like it :D For Summer I'm all about a flowy rayon maxi dress or comfy knit maxi dress & Taos sandals with white linen big shirt as a cover-up & straw ( cowboy) hat. We regularly reach triple digits & dresses are more comfortable in the heat & for lounging around the house. Hope you feel better soon Hannah 💖

A dear college professor used to ask / assign his students to provide "intelligent comments". This is not an intelligent comment, but it is beyond doubt an honest comment: I think I have found the perfect cat to go with my life. Sophie, love.

I'm one of those people that needs just two handbags - a black and a brown. I currently only have brown. I also cannot handle bags on my shoulder or held in my hand, because I will drop or forget them (ADHD). Medium-small crossbodies for me, ONLY! Makes life simple. People (including me) tend to forget practicality when it comes to desire sometimes, and every time I see a beautiful bag, it's one of those times. But then I remember what I need out of a handbag is the function first, and having a purple cow print Brandon Blackwood purse or beautifully made Bottega handbag is just not practical. I'll mix up shoes and clothes all day long, but my bags need to be minimal, reliable, and useful.

I love these sartorial inspiration videos. That beautiful patchwork top has really inspired me to make something in a printed quilt fabric I've recently been drawn to. Thank you!

You are so elegant, Hannah. One of these days I may invest in a pair of floaty pants, except I'm worried they might make me look larger/wider than I'd like. But I love all your concepts! I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for sharing the infamous Pinterest board! I'm so excited to take a gander and find more inspiration in the knitwear combinations you mentioned (knitwear is my weakness...)

So I was gifted an old bubblegum pink Coach bag a year or 2 ago. I rarely use her but i was thinking I might pair her with a rust toned cardigan I have. Blue is one of my main colors I want for my wardrobe and I find that rust toned clothes pair well with blue.

Someone mentioned in one of your other style videos that it could be a skill share video, and I feel that is the same case with this one! So helpful and fun - like hanging out with a friend and a teacher - appreciating the art of dressing while remaining practical. My style is completely different than yours, but I found all of the takeaways seamlessly applying to my own wardrobe nonetheless. Would love to see more of these in the future!

Always such a big fan of your styling/fashion content. It’s such a nice subset of your channel and content! Love all the outfits but I think the second outfit (tshirt and rust pants) and the last two are my favourite. I think as a concept that you didn’t mention is that you often mix quite flirty/feminine/flouncy pieces with more structured/utilitarian/ Tailored pieces which is another thing that gives you balance. Love your work as always Hannah!

The blouse, jeans, black bag, shoes look awesome. I think you are right and that it is the way the black jeans draw out the cool tone of the blue in the blouse that works so well. Ace content and hope you are better x
