Every month, I like to cover a new watch or new brand on the channel. This month, we finally get a chance to review not only a new release for 2020, but also a watch with a combined Latin and Swiss heritage-the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Landeron chronograph.
In this video, we’ll take an in-depth look at the brand’s history and the watch’s specifications and performance. I also discuss how it compares to the original from the 1940s, its positives, and also its negatives. Join me for some quality time with a beautiful watch from an exciting brand with a fascinating history.

i just started getting into wrist watches, a friend came by one day last year with a watch he thought was over wound but it was a bulova accutron and just needed a battery so i took the back off found the battery size and got one for it put it in and it came to life with a very mean sounding little growl, i have had 20 dollar digital or quartz watches throughout my life for work and when the battery died i would just go get a new watch, plastic timex casio whatever even dollar store watches over the last few years. but that accutron was inscribed for someone's retirement in 1974 and when i looked at it the second hand wasn't ticking it was sweeping in a single motion and i really liked that so i put a band on it and wore it, this friend came back a few days later and asked how i got it to work since he couldn't i told him i put a battery in it and he wanted to trade me for it i was happy he wanted it back but i made him wait a year to trade that particular watch, meanwhile i got a couple more watches from him and every one he brought all it would need would be a battery or a band or pins and he had a band, now from him i have a seiko with a early 1970s movement and a painted dial it needs to be worked on and i have no idea how to fix it its an automatic with the crown snapped off and something else wrong with it. i do have 2 new watches that i bought from amazon though, a casio duro and a tommy bahama watch that i got from my local pawn shop a bulova marine star a casio poseidon and a couple of other really nice but inexpensive watches i do plan on getting a casio edifice and learning how to use it correctly

I love electromechanical watches from the 50's to the 70's. I collect mostly Accutrons and other tuning fork watches, but my absolute favorite is my 1967 Wittnauer Transistorized with Dynotron 9150 movement. While I am in great awe of the way an Accutron functions, it is unfortunately sort of a let down to watch because you can't really see anything move, other than the sweep second hand. The Witt, on the other hand, has a full exhibition back that lets you see the balance slam lock to lock as the transistiors pulse the electromagnet which attracts and repels the ferris material on the balance wheel. It so electronically primitive and beautifully detailed like the Acctron Spaceview. I also have a clear plastic manual wind Tissot movement with colored plastic components which is fun to see tick away, but it does not have a case or a crown, so I have to wind it with a screw driver..
@benjaminbarrera214
@benjaminbarrera214 3 жыл бұрын
Those Dynotrons are cool movements! Benrus made a lot of electronic watches that use the same movement, they are pretty cheap on eBay iv you ever need spares. I've seen the plastic Tissot movements also on eBay, some of them go for real money! Right now I have a Hamilton electric watch for a project, it has the later 505 movement. Just a few more watches to finish and then I'll get to this one. That Wittnauer with the exhibition case sounds interesting, I'm going to have to look out for one of those.

Fantastic video I've seen some of your reviews, suggestions and opinions and I truly enjoy your show. This video mostly caught my eye because recently I have become infatuated with this brand. The first reason is because I'm of Cuban decent, born and raised as a native New Yorker. The Cuervo y Sobrinos Watches are a unique luxury brand and since this was my true first luxury watch purchase I wanted it to be a conversation piece. I agree with you that for the Price they need to go "Above and Beyond" on the details, which I concur with you they lack in certain models. I currently own a Prominente Solo tempo and a Pirata Cronografo with bronze case, both with excellent characteristics and of course, unique. Both of these Models are extraordinary, but some of there other models needs some work on the detail side. The history on the brand is very alluring I hope the new Management Massimo Rossi since 2018 takes the Company to a better recognition of their brand. Other than that I hope your advice is heeded as a schooled horologist, GREAT REVIEW...

I have seen other CYS watches for sale, but didn't know much about CYS as a brand. But wow those two watches are beautiful and I love the fact that CYS used old parts in a new watch that is really cool. I wish I could afford it. I love brands like CYS because they are underdogs and don't get much love outside of the CYS collector community. I'm going to be looking into CYS for sure. Great video as always TGV!!

Like many others, I lived in Cuba for nearly 32 years and only learned of this brand after I moved abroad. It is amazing how nobody over there talks about it, and yet you ask anybody over 60, and they all know it. My late grandfather even remembered the prices at the CYS store when I asked him. Great brand, great history. Definitely on my short list.

I have heard of this brand before and think they look amazing. I Did not know of their history (I do now!) Many thanks for a great presentation. I am a keen photographer and the macro photography you present is very good. This brand is much better and more exclusive than Rolex at the fraction of the price. The fit and finish on Rolex is not always up to scratch, and with all of the hype are way overpriced. The attention to detail on Cuervo Y Sobrinos ( translates to Cuervo and Nephews) is stunning. Once again many thanks.

Dear TGV, firstly let me thank you for another great video! Talking about vintage Chronographs, I wondered if you ever considered reviewing a Poljot Strela Chronograph? I personally own one and I am constantly amazed by it. So much history, such a unique styling and all of that at a surprisingy affordable price. These watches are truly special :)

As I watch the football game tonight, i keep hitting mute to watch your video. TGV the best content and the editing. I adore your comment of sitting in a casino smoking a cigar, i would have an old fashion or a sazarach. I will now add another watch to my watch list.

What a great video. I'd personally never heard of this brand. Very nice indeed. Love the black dial, but then again with its Art Deco design I of course was always going to love it. Littlemited editions and a fairly unknown brand attracts me, but ultimately have to say given the alternatives out there I do agree a bit on the pricey side. But as said very nice. Thank you for introducing me to this brand sir 🙏.
