Carlos Andrés Gómez preaches it the way it should be preached. I know it's a cliché, but you can't judge a book by it's cover. Güeros/güeras, or blond-haired, blue-eyed hispanico/latinx, are an excellent example.

I loved your poem. I'm Spanish/ Mexican/ Native American on my mother's side and English/Irish on my dad's side. My maternal grandparents were a beautiful bonze complexion, while I was born the color of undercooked dough, "pan crudo", as we still jokingly say. I was never taught Spanish growing up, but became desperate to know what my grandparents were talking about, or what was happening on my grandma's novelas. I started taking Spanish in high school and enjoyed the classes so much, I ended up majoring in the language and becoming fluent. So, yes, I do know who Gabriel Garcia Marquez was, because I read his stories and novels in class. I use my language skills at work, and whenever I can to help someone with directions, or to figure out which bus to catch, etc. When I speak Spanish, I don't feel half this, or half that; I just feel WHOLE.

Colorism is a major issue in our community hispana- our novela stars look nordic, our news-casters and hosts look Mediterranean and the only ones that look like me are robbing stores or wiping the floors in the novelas or are criminals en las noticias. Look at Sammy Sosa, my dude had to use "special cremas" to lighten his skin to zombie shades of grey to find his new "success". I have to consistently remind the boys and girls I work with who are under represented in all media and narratives that they come from kings and queens and are destined for the same, even if they are denied representation in all of the media and exito they are exposed to. Don't even get me started on how the US wants us to choose white now- that's a conversation for another day.

I love it, feeling shivers. But I wonder what Brazillian people are considered? We are the only country that doesn't speak Spanish, but I consider myself LATINA!

Mexican American here from Texas, I look quite descent, olive skin, brown eyes and dark hair. But when I visited New Hampshire, I met a lady at a store who literally thought I was Italian lol all because of my looks

Ha, ha, exactly the same happened to me--medium toned Mexican American from Texas. Went to Baltimore, where a lady overheard me speaking Spanish on the phone with my sister, and when I hung up, she said, " You're Italian?"

This is just bs. Way too subjective. Keep us Dominicans without even understanding us. Keep calling us names without even having the decency of getting to know us. Keep it up guys, great divide

He said he *met* Dominicans like that. He never said all Dominicans are like that. I don't see the problem with this poem.
