Depends on where you are, if the word is in use or not, and how it is used. Where I'm from, the word isn't uncommon and it is just a convenient way of saying mixed black/white. No one gets offended to it because it is just a descriptor and is used as such, even black people use the word when talking about someone who's mixed with black and white.

If these are words considered racist than so is calling a person black, white, yellow, or brown. Both heritage?
