Yes queen 👑! I'm happy she changed her name. We don't need anymore derogatory, plantation, pre-civil war era names brought into 2022 (including ni**a). There are so many other respectable ways to address yourself as biracial.

its etymological origin the word "mulatto" refers to the " mule ", which is the product of the cross between a mare and a donkey, due to the racialist vision of that time and the subordinate position of the slaves, mostly black, and according to which the donkey was assimilated to the black person and the mare or horse to the white person She is super creative and talented and we can get her a better name than mule or donkey

I think it’s a good PR move in general for the name change, my dad is biracial (63) and has made it clear to me it’s a derogatory term overall. Whoever named her that kinda set her up imo

@@flyykay4861 I think she's protecting the person who did give her the name. That may be the reason she threw in the "righting other people's actions or decisions (without bashing anyone)." I never knew that mulatto was considered derogatory when I was younger. She's older now and knows better so it is a good move to change it before the outrage starts.

When wyte people came up with that name do you think they made the name out of love or was it created to be derogatory? It wasn’t out of love! She could love being mix she should. I think people were upset because of the history, it like you going by the name Jezebel or Mammy or anything other name that was used during that time. Would you use the name and say I love being Blk?

@@loveydovey2805 neither should be used BUT the n-word gotta longer history than "mulatto" also the former was turned into a term of we use for each other the same can't be said for mulatto tho. If Latto tried to reclaim it as her own, it wouldn't work. The term would have to be a communal one among other biracial folks not just her.

I’m glad you brought up Mariah’s memoir. I’ve identified with her life story for a long time- being a biracial person as well, and never being & feeling fully accepted on either side.

Do we not use the n-word. Not excusing that it’s wrong, but people have no problem bringing up this word’s origins but negate a word that has negatively defined us for a long time and use it as everyday slang. And I’m pretty sure you’ve used it. All I’m saying is be fair 💯

What are they teaching kids in schools today? She is doing something wrong. The word mulatto is Spanish for mule or young mule which is why slave traders called our mixed or racially mixed children that. You can't be that ignorant. It's an offensive and dated word that she should have changed. This is why I don't watch this show. You can tell that Jason was dragged up because he says the most offensive uneducated things unless it's concerning what he calls his community. Education and our history really is important so we all know what's going on. This is way different than a person preferring the term mixed over biracial or vice versa.
