Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on KZfaq, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on KZfaq. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on KZfaq, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.
This is a reaction video used to educate and give my feedback on the song and artists.

Yes, Laura Branigan had incredible singing talent. Whenever she belted it out live, you could always see that she had a lot more "gas in the tank". She has some other stuff worth checking out. You were probably thinking about Patti Smith with a different song also called "Gloria". Patti Smith is a punk / poet / rocker singer / songwriter. Patti did some pioneering work. Very much worth exploring the music catalogue of Patti Smith.

The original version (1979) is by the Italian pop singer Umberto Tozzi. And her great hit “Self Control” is also a version by the Italian singer RAF (Raffaele Riefoli). In any case, Laura performed them masterfully. Respect ❤

God I wish we could have had Laura branigan, Taylor dayne, Celine dion, and Pat Benatar get together for an All-Star five octave Extravaganza billboard hit. That would have been something for the history books. Check out Laura's other great songs Solitaire, Self-Control, How Can I Help You Say Goodbye, I Found Someone, How am I Supposed to Live Without You, Power of Love, Sweet Hello Sad Goodbye, Spanish Eddie, Moonlight on Water, Hold Me, and Shattered Glass. Just to name a few 😃

Brilliant, magnetic - and totally without any autotune! Beautiful lady, and her dramatic command of the lyrics (you can hear every word, she brings together words and vocal power) make it such a riveting performance. I'm familiar with classical music too , and she has the same kind of presence as an opera singer soaring over the orchestra.

While “Gloria” was considered a “Pop” song here in the U.S., it did first appear a dance song in Italy and was first considered “Italian-Pop”. 1982 was not that far from the disco era though and those who are claiming that disco was dead by the time this song was released are forgetting that all modern dance music has its roots in disco. The further we get from the disco era the harder it becomes to identify what was influenced by that era when it comes to dance music today, but the influence is definitely there and seeing how 1982 really was not that far after the disco era, there is very strong disco influence in this song. The opening of the song before she starts singing screams disco influence and the wonderfully fun bass line also has been influenced from what the disco era brought to the bass lines of dance music. To try and deny that shows how much the person denying it is trying to not be associated with disco and is letting their dislike of disco influence their opinion. Disco is the great grand daddy of modern dance music though and while most people think disco died, it did not. It evolved and the dance music you dance to in the clubs today had it roots in disco. A story about Laura Branigan I sometimes tell is way back in either 90 or 91 at what was to become the wildly popular gay circuit part, “The White Party” in Palm Springs. This was at one of the very early “White Party” events but was the year before it was finally moved to the Palm Springs convention center. Before it was held at the convention center it was held at the Racquet Club outside on their tennis courts and also at a hotel (don’t remember the name) which later became private condo’s. It was this final year at that Hotel that my Boyfriend (at that time) and I found ourselves right in front of the stage and center stage at that for Laura Branigan’s performance of “Gloria”. This was in the downstairs large convention room at the hotel. When Laura came out on stage (background music already playing), my boyfriend reached out to take her hand as she approached us. She reached down and grabbed his hand and in doing so looked us directly in the eye and we noticed that her eyeballs were moving rapidly from side to side (very rapidly). This was generally a sign of taking extasy and having it hit you very hard at that moment, so I am pretty sure she was flying on extasy during this performance. Her vocals were loud and clear though and she was belting out the song. A little way into the song the sound system tripped the circuit breaker and for a bit over a minute there was no microphone or backing track at all. Laura did not miss a beat though. Without any microphone she took it to another level with her voice and was really belting out the song with every gay man in that room backing her up. It was one of those magical moments that sometimes occur between a star and their fans, and it is something I will never forget. I am sure Laura never forgot it as well because she left that stage knowing just how well loved she was by the gay community. And what a voice she had which she really showed off for that brief moment before someone reset the circuit breaker.

Actually, disco was over with by the time this song became a hit. But there was the lingering disco sound and of course, the disco ball. There’s no denying Laura was a great singer. She was only in her 50s when she passed away from an aneurysm.

I’ve never noticed before. Now never unheard! ❤ - and the disco ball at the start of this video nails it. I reckon a direct influence I wasn’t aware of. Jarvis is around my age and this was all over the radio in the UK as kids. If it is a reference then it is as always very clever. Brilliant 😊

Though Laura Branigan had a handful of other hits, "Gloria" was by far her biggest. I was in my 20s when it was released and can tell you she was considered a pure pop singer and not disco, which had a much more prominent percussion style. Compare her to other female singers of the time, like Donna Summer for instance. Mirror balls hung over the dance floors of a lot of bars and clubs of the late '70s and early '80s, not just in discos.
