Laura Plantation is a restored historic Louisiana Creole plantation on the west bank of the Mississippi River near Vacherie, Louisiana, (U.S.), open for guided tours. Formerly known as Duparc Plantation, it is significant for its early 19th-century Créole-style raised big house and several surviving outbuildings, including two slave cabins. It is one of only 15 plantation complexes in Louisiana with this many complete structures. Because of its historical importance, the plantation is on the National Register of Historic Places. The site, in St. James Parish, Louisiana, is also included on the Louisiana African American Heritage Trail.

The Creoles were mixed...African & French blood. They spoke French and Patois.

Laura plantation is an example of a French creole plantation. This is what puts it into a unique category historically.

I have been here 4 maybe 5 times. Of all the many plantations I have visited, this is my favorite because of it's unique history. I learn something else every time I visit.

That map was really a visual eye opener. You see why the South did not want to give up slavery. It was an economic winner if you had the right pigmentation. There's a special place in hell for every slave owner and person who supported it. Plantations are one of the ugliest places in the world as far as I'm concerned. Sleeping in a slave shack next to this house. I have no words. I like the respectful way you film your videos on this topic. Thank you..

250k wouldn't even buy me a house here 💀 Love the details though, I love it when they set the tables and make the beds and let the building show the aging over time. I'm really genuinely surprised you were able to touch the brick etc given how much degradation human skin causes to stuff like that.

Well that’s interesting the French Creoles must have looked for French speaking slaves,,,, I never thought of that or heard it. I’m glad I was not born in those times.

Agree and disagree. Too many memories of the horrific brutality perpetrated against black people. I enjoy learning the history of our ancestors, but many don’t.

I agree, but also this can be extremely painful and traumatizing for black people. Everyone else gets to take these tours and not experience the pain that we feel because their ancestors weren't enslaved and abused. I've read of some very saddening reactions to black people touring plantations. Some bursting into tears, having panic attacks, fainting, emotional breakdowns. Some of us can't handle it on a spiritual level....and some of our Ancestors don't wanna go back- little do people know.

Those tour guides always want to redefine creole as limited to 2nd generation anything other than black… especially not wanting to acknowledge the mixed race history that none can deny

I don't think she was. She was French. I do think a relative of hers produced a line of creoles "of color" though. Louisiana Creole history is so very interesting.
