In this video we show you the complete guided tour of Houmas House Plantation in South Louisiana.GPS 30.1407° N, 90.9351° W
The Houmas, also known as Burnside Plantation and currently known as Houmas House Plantation and Gardens, is a historic plantation complex and house museum in Burnside, Louisiana. The plantation was established in the late 1700s, with the current main house completed in 1840. It was named after the native Houma people, who originally occupied this area of Louisiana.
The complex, containing eight buildings and one structure, and the 10 acres (4.0 ha) they rest upon, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 27, 1980.

Thanks so much for this! I moved to Baton Rouge last year and mom's coming for a visit. This tour looks amazing. Can't wait to get back and see Houmas House again - last time was just the gardens. Mom and I will love seeing this house.

RVSWAT thank you very much for posting this video. I looked up the house after watching the movie Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte, as the plot would have the house demolished to make space for a road and a bridge. Since Americans have in the past far too often destroyed historic buildings (such as other plantation houses or the Vanderbilt mansions in NYC), I just wanted to find out whether the house was still standing and maybe some facts about the movie itself. It was however a great pleasure to enjoy a long KZfaq tour with such a charming guide, it really was like like being there with the rest of the group. Excellent work, thank you very much again

+Stef Bellelli Thank you so very much for watching! We usually try to keep the videos much shorter in length, but this was too exciting to take anything away from it. Tracy really enjoys history, and old houses, and plantation homes...pretty much anything old! Again, we appreciate you taking the time to watch our video! 😁

The billard table weighs so much because English billard tables have the bed made from a solid piece of Welsh slate. This enables the playing surface to be perfectly flat and level.

Love that plantation!! It seemed much prettier decorated for the movie (Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte)... of course the movie started in 1929. I watch the movie often. I know all the lines. It was an all star cast. I still hope to see the house someday. That porch was awesome!!!

Very enjoyable tour. The guide's accent was lovely and easily understood for me, probably because there are so many people from other countries working here in Ireland. I agree it's a sad history but essential to see, and works of art, craftsmanship, are just that and should be preserved

Surprised that no mention of the movies Hush Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964), Moon of the Wolf (1972), Mandingo (1975) and Fletch Lives (1988) among others, that were filmed there.
@TheHotshox
@TheHotshox 5 жыл бұрын
Heru- deshet you’ve clearly not watched/listened to properly. There were sheets by the piano with the music for Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte and then they spent about 5 minutes in the room where Bette Davis lived for 3 months while shooting on location. Please watch again, it’s well worth a second look. I don’t know the other movies which weren’t mentioned.

Mandingo and Fletch Lives WERE NOT filmed at Houmas House. They were filmed at Ashland Belle Helene plantation at Darrow/Geismar, which is upriver from Houmas House. You need to research before making such misleading claims. The tour guide is not speaking with a French accent. She is speaking with a Spanish accent.

@@jimfrankmartin47 It is a combination of both, more than likely. It sounds like creole on steroids, since she is so hyper and anxious to get to the next group! You spend your money and should have an easy free flowing tour, without being rushed through and shooed out the back door like one of the house flies!

The house isn’t ours...so it’s up to the owner. They do reside in the house, and they have done their own research. Not sure why they chose the decor they did, but I think it all looks amazing. I’m not a professional decorator or historian, so what’s authentic and what’s not is over my head. 🤷🏻‍♀️
