A lesson in using very extended inks. I have an upcoming episode about extender with oil based inks which has some important tips about colour changes so do watch out for that

thankyou so much for putting together such a vast series of detailing the lino process!

What I really appreciate is that you specifically worknwoth water based ink in this series - and as I learned from the last video, practiced, then watched this one, and you answered my next question around not leaving old thin layers to get tacky underneath new ink! Thank you so much. Quesions I have, my transparency enhancing medium states only use 1:5 medium to ink - and I have no idea how that will get me to such light layers? Maybe I just need to keep practicing rolling very thinly. I still am not sure that I am putting the right pressure on my prints (I put far more on I think than you do), but am not getting even coverage.

So good to just watch you printing in these very fine layers, and you always have an informative explanation as well! I'm very tempted to get some water-based extender now!

I just love the delicacy of the layers you get with the extender. Speedball definitely have an extender. Thanks (-: Marion

Dear Laura, once again, thanks for this marvelous videos and explanations! I also would like to know what you think about the use of mediums has extenders to water based inks. Kind regards to you and Ben

Thank you Laura, for sharing this valuable knowledge, you are a wonderful teacher! My question is how do you sign these prints if you make an edition of them with only slight variation in shades? Is it a V/E - varied edition, since the variations are more or less left to chance rather than planned? Thank you. Adela.

I tend just to make them an ordinary edition

Hi. In regard to paper, hot pressed, cold pressed. Any difference in printing? Fabriano Rosapino

This is marvelous. I've been following your reduction print series and now the multi-block. Unfortunately I haven't been available on Friday evenings to ask you live questions. What are the advantages do you think, in doing multi-block over reduction (besides that with the former you can return to make more prints)? I've been doing reduction but am so eager to try multi-block because it looks like so much fun (after all the initial measuring, that is ;-) ). Many thanks.

Hi Della that’s a good question but too long to answer here. I’ll note it for the next livestream and you can watch it on here anytime after it goes out with my answer

Can the soft rollers degrade? Do you do anything to them to condition them? To lengthen their useability?
@LauraBoswellPrintmaker3 жыл бұрын
My oldest one is about 15 yes now and still going strong. Store them hanging or off the roller part and clean them really well and you should be fine 🙂

You were saying that you wouldn't print more than 3 or 4 layers of water based ink normally in a day. How many layers would you print with oil based inks (including safe wash). Also, a question about Ben's lovely registration device (and will fully understand if it's a trade secret!), what thickness is the mdf base of the device please? Beautiful, soft, glowing print, thanks Laura once again and great photography as usual, thanks Ben.

No straight answer to the inking question I’m afraid Simone - depends on paper, weather, print in question, thinness of the layer etc - but I’d say about two tops. You’ll need to mail Ben about the device - prefer not to say on here.

@@LauraBoswellPrintmaker Thanks Laura, will experiment with the variables and see what happens. I usually only print one layer per day with lino and safe wash.

Loving this series but the sound level is very low. I cast it to my tv and at max volume it is just about okay. To check it wasn’t my equipment, I played series1 Self-isolation studio tour and volume was good at usual tv volume. If it is just me and you have a fix I’d be glad of it. Thanks

Hi sorry about this - it was a technical glitch we had and we have resolved it moving forward so the future ones will be ok. There are subtitles if you need them

Is extender the same as transparent base?

You’d need to check with the supplier or manufacturer to be sure, but I’d assume so
