Hello !
I learnt about the situation in Iran and the hostages in the US embassy through other movies, but I didn't know anything about these six who hide themselves out of it. It felt really cool to discover that part of the story and even more because it was so well done. And you know that an historic movie/show is well done when it gives you the impression to be simple but you know that it is not. How this movie was written and done is so far from simple : to mix the story and the facts, with some moments for the characters, but without being too much, too melodramatic, and to just be right with the interpretation, to create an atmosphere of tension without the big gunfights and epic musics ; but also to recreate all of these situations, with this level of attention to costumes, rooms, environnement… It's so so so difficult, and still, it looked falsely simple.
I could talk about the six and the fact that it was surely hell to hide for so long, to have that false impression of safety which can push you to stay, the strength you need to go with that plan, how brave it was… Or also how sorry I was to have doubted Sahar. But really, it seems off, when the purpose of the movie was really around them, getting out, and that I was totally involved in that. Yes, the fact I was so sick and tired, helped me to be invested. Maybe too invested.
I'm still french, so I'm still sorry if my english hurts you.

A serious correction needs to be made in this film, the British and New Zealand Embassies did NOT turn them away. They were offered safe harbour in the aforementioned, however it was suggested they go to the Canadian embassy as their accents are similar. The British initially safe harboured the US diplomats until they were concerned the UK embassy would soon be overrun, the Kiwis transported them to the airport for their escape. I don’t know why Affleck didn’t include this in the film, as obviously it would have made it more suspenseful. It is just a blatant lie that allied countries turned them away.

Affleck has commented that he purposely left it out, because otherwise it would disrupt the flow and pace of the film, that them going straight to the Canadian Embassy just got the film moving a bit faster. Personally, I believe they could very easily have had some dialogue in the CIA planning scenes to explain they had initial help from Britain and New Zealand

@@boltoniangirl disrupted the the “flow and pace” of the film ….. it would literally been like another 30 seconds piece of dialogue, which in my opinion would have made the film more suspenseful and been historically accurate.

@@boltoniangirl the problem that I and many others have, is that it was not just an exaggeration or minimisation, it was an outright lie that needs to be corrected.

What is “eo an oscar” ?
