Honestly, all the comments here and the video teaches us a lot, I belong to a middle class family and I always got everything that is needed for a happy life and I am really grateful for that , but I realised that sometimes I am not giving my best while I should, my parents are working hard for my studies and I do study hard for exams but sometimes I just don't feel to study and waste all my time just doing nothing...I realise that and I hope I will not have any regrets in future from now on

Hi! Same thoughts! My parents grew up from poverty so they strived to give my sister and I a good life. We're middle income rn and I've always gotten average to high grades with average effort. But college is a different oyster, and while I should be doing my best to study, I feel the urge to just waste my time. My parents would tell me how they would wake up 4am just to study early, while commuting 2-3 hours to school daily, while also taking part-time, because of the circumstances they were in. Compared to them, I wake up 8am ish, get started studying around 10am and I think it's cuz I don't really feel the "need" to work so hard since I already have everything I need for a happy life, as you said. Let's do our best to becoming better vers of ourselves!! fighting!

It's difficult for me to work hard since I feel like I already have everything, and honestly I could just live with them for the rest of my life, but I know that's not right and that I need to build my own happiness. When I see Jei's gesture (keep holding hands and touch her things) I think she is anxious and defensive. Maybe it's because of previous friends that she cann't trust easily. And from Yeji's, I think she deals with a lot of people during her part time job so she can easily lead the conversation.

The more I've studied on the topic, the more I realize high middle class is ideal for every human. Enough to buy foods you like, even when not on sale, especially to keep healthy food stocked and ready (veggies/fruit and fresh meat aren't cheap. Vegan alternatives aren't either) you can dabble or get involved in any hobby, from surfboarding, horseback riding or art, no matter if it's an expensive or inexpensive hobby. You're life is generally more stable, because even if something happens, you generally had enough for a nest egg or savings of some sort to pull through. You don't have to worry about bills. You can easily replace house hold appliances as they break down. You can save up for a year or shorter for a nice vacation almost anywhere. If you have kids, they probably live in a childhood home and have access to lessons from swimming, music, hobbies etc. In this range, which is of course varied on currency/country, but around the 5-6 figure mark, you life in security with a little extra for emergencies, special occasions or expenses. Past this point is a game of diminishing returns and has routinely changed human psychology to be more selfish, insecure and greedy because of the excess feel it creates and the bubble it puts you in to those around you. Not having to worry about making your bills or if something breaks down is such massive difference in someone's life.

Growing up as a little bit above middle class…there were times I didn’t wanna talk about my parents wealth bc I knew kids would treat me different. I felt like they would act fake. And some did, and those ppl didn’t make me wanna trust ppl easily. That made me anxious around ppl cs they don’t see me for me. I only told them about my parents if they asked. Tbh my whole life was full of materialistic things but barely filled with experience with the world. Sure, I can buy things but in the end, it just gets boring esp if idk what i want to buy lol and that happens a lot of times. I’m a simple person who doesn’t ask for much. I got a job bc I didn’t wanna depend on my parents and I knew I was using them to stay in my comfort zone. Getting a job made me more open. I am more talkative. I don’t think too carefully anymore on what I should say and I’m learning more about the world around me. It’s not easy but I felt like I grew more due to that

*Sorry english isnt my first language The same thing happened to me. I wouldnt say i was bullied, but i was not liked in my class. Especially amongst the girls. When i was younger i was taught to be nice and respectful to everbody and i was. But people always found flaws in me, that i never understood, some the flaws being that my family "travelled to much" or what kind of cars my parents drove. I was lucky to transfer schools, but my new school was bad in another way. (But that is not important for this story ahah). Another thing that also contributed to this issue was the fact that i have foreign roots, meaning that not only did people dislike me and my parents because of my parents money, but also because we were "foreigners" who "somehow managed" to earn alot of money. It annoyed me so much because my parents have worked hard and have always told me stories of how my they (my parents) were struggling financially when they were younger (before they had me and my sisters). (Also another thing to mention, is that like @feaww5085's comment said, i wasnt boastful or flashy either.) It wasnt until i was older, around the age of 15-16 (im 17 right). some of the friends i had left told me why people didnt like me (stuff above being the reason).

Idk where you live, but in South Korea the hierarchy culture is a lot more strict than in the west. Just having money alone can make you popular in school (albeit looks usually do play a roll if you’re in school as well, you usually have to be pretty and rich). And it’ll get you a head start in life. I know from the sound of what I’m saying, it sounds like that happens in the west as well- because it does. But not to the extent in South Korea. It’s 100x worse in South Korea. It’s sadly a very classist society. Hence this video- this video definitely reflects the classist hierarchy of Korea. Where as if you did this same video with two students from the states, you may not have such differing experiences based on their wealth alone. Not to say the west isn’t classist, that’d be crazy. It is. The whole world is. But east Asia, and South Korea specifically, really takes it to the next level.

Hmmm, my experience was rather different. My family’s financial level can be considered a little above average. Not wealthy or rich, but we have enough. But growing up I’m a bit involved in my parents small business where we have a stationary shop, in elementary school I tend to bring small cute stuff like pretty pencils, cute notebooks etc etc to sell it at school, then I’ll get a share of money from what I sell at school. So the mindset of earning money is already imprinted in my brain since I was a kid. Because of that, even if my dad basically say I can take the money straight from the place where they kept the money and buy anything I want, I ended up bot doing that at all because I know earning money is not easy. Same thing happened to my siblings. None of us willing to do that even if our parents let us do that. I can ask my dad to buy me things that I want, but again, that never happened because the pleasure of saving money and using it to buy what I want make me feel happier. Stuff like phone, laptop, monitor, electric bicycles etc, I bought it with my own savings. I even do online jobs by translating and other stuff to make money. My parents never really teach us to do what we did. But I think teaching kids from young age the concept of earning money will certainly do them good. While I can’t speak for all kids, because that can also goes wrong, but it certainly work for us siblings.

And this shows how is the mentality in Korea, since they are born, they think of money and materialistic things, and how powerful and indestructible you are being rich and how you can control others with money, that’s why there are tons of corruption cases in Korea even the police is involved sometimes, they buy people with money and benefits, they just think they are better having more than others, sometimes I think they should change that mentality.

Not only being rich and beautiful yourself is important, but surrounding yourself with rich and beautiful people is just as important. As someone who has been poor all my life, I've always thought if I had money, I'd spend it on people I care about. You don't have to pay them back and if they ever treat it like you should after giving you something that's clearly a gift, that's not a good friend. Also, depending on the level of wealth, 100 dollars is literally pocket change compared to the pool. People often don't understand that 10 dollars is not the same equivalent for people with cash to burn. Not that you should expect it, but truly, it is likely no problem for them depending on their wealth level. It's not an issue and most likely, they don't expect it back in the slightest because it's chump change to them and they can tell you could use it much more than them.

It's not so much if you're rich or poor in high school. What matters is what kind of "adult" you become and the life you lead as a result. Will the rich person have more opportunities, yes seemingly so, you can't deny that, but that doesn't mean their path will lead to blissful happiness and a wonderful life. Absolutely false. Don't let social media fool you, yes the rich look like they live better but that doesn't necessarily mean they're happier or more content than the average person. It's all about perspective.

I agree with this. My husband came from a very rich upbringing yet he decided when he was an adult to branch off on his own, work hard and become independent. Now he has his own house (not easy in this economy but he worked for it on his own and didn't ask his parents for any money), good job and we have a little one on the way which is a blessing ❤ In comparison his older brother is still living with their well off parents and is quite unhappy. We are always encouraging him to be independent, make a life for himself but he is stuck in his own comfort zone having everything he needs at his parents house which is a shame. Point of this long message is that I agree it really depends what kind of adult you turn into and your approach to the world.

I only got about 10 cents/day, sometimes Mom gave me 20-30 cents and that was a huge allowance to me, 1 USD/day must be dreaming, I was freakin' happy back then, feel like I could buy the whole world. So just my thought, limited money sometimes brings me happiness 'cause I know how hard it is to earn it, then I have more respect for my money (my parent's money), and every single toy or food I purchased. Being wealthy is good, and everyone dreams 'bout it, but somehow wealthy kids might get bored easily, and also some fake friends were not what we pretending.

As a kid growing in an upper middle class family, I am not the type to tell other kids around about my family’s wealth but as I invite other kids for birthdays or get together they’ve eventually found out about it and it’s not the best They expect me to buy them stuff and talk Behind my backs when I can’t relate to their home situations They don’t return any money I lend them in the past ( I’ve stopped lending any) and most of my friends are fakies

I'm sending you a internet hug🫶🏾😊 it's not easy to not have real genuine friends but I would say this if you believe in Jesus and open your heart to him you will not feel lonely and be filled with love and peace❤ (that's my personal experience since I encountered him) I do think that having one or two good friends is a positive experience but real people are getting harder to get. Maybe if you indulge in doing some activities that you like, you will meet like-minded people but really opening your heart to God will change you if you haven't try it already I highly suggest it👍🏾

My dad used to give me around 1000 $ dollars every month when we were like really rich hahaha but eventually our businesses went bankrupt and now we lost it all I think I learned many lessons from the experience The first thing People come to you and suddenly speak nice to you treat you like a princess and they backbite while your gone and complain about you And when I don't have it they'll befriend me saying I can't even give them a little I'm really selfish and greedy it's crazy how the world revolves around money

Money = Resources which means survival. It absolutely hijacks our ability to think or process on anything other than survival mode. Money isn't money, it's food, shelter, water, security, medicine and education. Let alone social capital, opportunity and entertainment. The world is massively unfair with it's resource and money distribution. We don't live in a meritocracy. Also, people who are angry (rightly so) blame the rich, but, usually, it's not their fault, especially when it's just family money. No one deserves a million dollars. No one has ever done enough or contributed enough in society to validate that amount vs the amount of work people have done and make basically nothing. it proves our system is unfair. And again, that's not a wealthy persons fault unless they're contributing to the problem, which is keeping wealth in wealthy circles, but that's more corporations and stock markets that do that. And it's not their fault either when the whole world runs on a "acquire more forever" paradigm. Any amount is never enough. You need to always be making more. Which isn't possible when a resources is finite.

Lol my allowance was 0 I did get nothing only on birthdays and christmas mostly from grandma and that was like a little money that was all, when I get to be 18 there I could make some money from part timers when I have 2 monsths on break in summer from school but that was like minimum wage. Still this could make me think about how money are important and to get a good job to never get to think about money again still in collegue but working now.

I didn't get any allowance, but because in my country it ain't a thing. We've never done that. Also, education and health systems are free all the way so no need. Parents cover for their kids expenses until they're old enough to do it for themselves, and even when that time comes, most parents keep on covering some of their kids' expenses. So we have no allowance nor tuition concepts. We ain't rich, far from that. But...we're united and happy

The whole thing she said about not blaming your parents is very widespread in asia and it’s not true, when you decide to have a child you have to be able to provide them with normal stuff or it’s just irresponsible(if you had the chance to get an abortion), though falling into the loop of constantly blaming your parents and practically giving up on life because of your situation and not doing anything to change it is also wrong. Anyway my point was people should quit trying to justify their parents’ irresponsible actions.

I had a fairly similar mindset during my early 20's. I felt kind of resentful but admit to wasting too much time in self-pity and pessimism. I believe even in some of the worst circumstances you can still break that cycle put upon you.

When I was in school, my mother didn't believe in allowance unless I did chores for a relative or got my own job. I live in the USA. I had to have good grades and keep a clean house, and maybe at the end of the school year I might get some money. I would save every penny that I could. I got most of my biggest money when I graduated high school. And my mother took all of that away, too.

I got tired of people taking advantage of me over the years. I would pay for our meals practically everything even started paying their tuition and on top of that they would utang money from me. the money my parents worked hard for I spent it all on superficial friendships. Now I have no friends because I cut them off from my life. there are times I miss being a part of a "group" or having someone to talk with at campus but I prefer it this way than before

Bro one of my friends is more wealthy (fairly successful businessman) than the rest of my friend group (1 friends has nurse parents and the rest either have teacher parents or low level office job) but basically she offered (btw this was before i knew them) to take one of them on vacation with her for free and they declined bc they thought it was crazy and too much money for our friend to spend on them. My fams also doin pretty good but thats partly bc my parents raised us to be penny pinchers which is why our single income household works and my parents could still pay for college.

Its funny I was friends with a kid who was popular for having money and always offering to pay or give stuff for free to people. I used to even tell him, hey you should stop being so nice and giving stuff to people. You dont have to do that and theyre taking advantage of you. He was a very sweet guy and we were friends for a while. He even paid extra $ once when we ordered takeout when we were short by a few dollars. I appreciated him, but I hope hes with people now who dont take advantage of his kindness.

Well, when i was kid i always think that "i hope, i was born in rich family. " Not because I hate my family, that's because I always feel small with a little things. Like bag, shoes (I buy shoes every 3 years), and a dress. I just receive a dress by someone that bored with her dress. I wanna eat McD, KFC or something in the mall. But i can't. Now, it's better but still I have to work hard for that stuff
