One of the trademark things about Law and Order is they always have some innocent people at the beginning doing something that has nothing to do with the case and then discover a dead body or some other evidence of a crime. Like the kids playing football at the begining of this clip. "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi," then kid slips and finds a corpse!

And it’s so wrong. Verlaine was the real talent, and Rimbaud rode his coattails? That is a take that no serious observer of French poetry would have accepted at the time the two poets were alive, and in modern literature studies Rimbaud’s continuing reputation as an innovator and once-a-generation genius has only grown, while Verlaine is mostly remembered as a side note in Rimbaud’s early life. She’s completely wrong according to almost any knowledgable evaluation.

Its wrong on another level too: Barnes and Noble employees are minimum wage retail employees whose jobs revolve around stocking and clerking. You MIGHT find one that’s an obscure French literature buff but for the most part the employees that were active readers consumed mainstream novels. Just normal folks grinding through their shifts. I was legit not expecting the level of tact from showing Briscoe as sympathetic to the cab driver admitting that he met the victim in AA and let him earn extra money while he was in his own meetings. It's not a slight against Briscoe as a character. I'm just surprised that the writers, during the one-liner riddled cold open, let Briscoe treat a witness with a level of sympathy instead of trampling on him as if he hadn't just lost a friend and was at risk of losing his livelihood for having tried to help said friend.

It's part of the nuance that the series had in spades, in many spots, that in my opinion left when he left the show. And honestly, in all the other series, I don't see nearly that same tendency to the same level. SVU tries but can't match the nuance in how Briscoe and others were written in terms of continuity. It's an L&O trademark, but very subtle.

The good old days when it was indisputable evidence of being a Klansman to find a Confederate flag (especially in a state that was *NOT* a part of the Confederacy)
@hydrophilicchristopher9874
@hydrophilicchristopher9874 Жыл бұрын
Not really. Even back in the 2000’s their numbers were still small enough to where any klan meeting was basically a circle jerk. The KKK is something that really didn’t survive past the boomer generation and anyone with the rebel flag tend to just not be fans of the federal government

I don't know about it being 'evidence' per se, but it used to be considered shameful.

“There’s a pride flag in the passenger’s seat of the suspect’s car. Let’s go grab some coffee.” “Uhhh…there’s a pretty strong, dead body smell coming from the trunk. Don’t you think we should check it out?” “Take it easy, rookie. Did you *not* hear what I said about the pride flag?”
