Summary of video for all you "very busy" people: 1. Mow your lawn 2x a week (3:04 for grass heights, 3-4" safe choice); 2. Fertilize with organics due to less chance of frying your lawn (synthetics are recommended for more experienced lawn owners). Measure your lawn and apply amount evenly to match sqfootage on the bag; 3. Preventing and controlling weeds. Everyone has weeds. You must use a weed control method. You must prevent (pre-emergent applicants), and if that/when that fails, must kill (post-emergent applicants).

Initially I wanted the perfect lawn as it seems to be a status symbol. I was doing all of this and had a perfect lawn. I then decided to buy some trees for ornamental purposes, and stumbled across fig trees. I now collect fig trees and several exotic fruit trees and shrubs and vines. My perfect lawn is gone now. Covered in wood chips and trees. Neighbors hate me now, but when it’s harvest time, they always come over to talk and get free fruits and veggies. Sometimes I miss the lawn you inspired me to create, but I’m still happy with my mess of wood chips. Lol

Good video, Allyn! It never hurts to be reminded of and rebiew the basics of caring for our lawns. It's the first thing thst a visitor to our homes always notices. I love your channel. As a Floridian (North Florida Atlantic Beach) not everything on the internet works for the climate we live in thanks there. I also have both St Augustine grass in the front yard and Empire Zoysia in the back. It’s the lawn version of a mullet business up front party in the back. But they need different care. Now that I am teaching first grade online from home I have the time to give my lawn the TLC it deserves. You rock very fun to watch. Plus I live on a golf course so my grass is in the foreground and these rolling hills and fairways carpeted in perfectly manicured Bermuda 419 is always in the background. It’s hard not to compare the foreground to the immaculate background Just saying it’s good to have you as a resource thanks.

I've measured my yard, printed my lawn map, and learned that the spray weed killer I bought should wait a few months until the daytime temps get below 90F. I'm shopping online now for my rake (to pull out the big, already dry weed patches,) a spreader and some beginner fertilizer. Oh! Remind me to shoot my "Before" pix for my Garden Diary! Happy mowing, y'all!

I can't believe I have to go back to school, I did not realize there is so much to learn when it comes to grass, I moved from an area where you plant a cactus, let mother nature water it and it grows, to an area where I have centipede grass, weeds and crabgrass all rolled in one lawn, I have to learn how much to water, what types of fertilzers/weed killers to use, when to use. Channels like this are a real help and watching them is giving me hope.

you're not a nut - you're neurotic! and it's catchy! Just found your channel and been watching your videos all week. Went out and have been working on my lawn. Put a new blade on the mower and mowed 2ce a week - put iron on the lawn - dug up the clumpy fescues and reseeded (watering 2ce a day). Threw down top soil in the more barer patches and seeded that. Holy crap what a difference a week makes - I'm already lawn dominating my block. Very satisfying!

Love this guy. I'm down the road in Lakewood Ranch. 3 years ago we moved to an HOA neighborhood that includes landscaping. A new landscape contractor took over almost a year ago and has nearly ruined the common areas and many homeowners' lawns. I notified them two weeks ago, that they are suspended from landscaping my yard. I am a Florida boy who knows how to care for St. Aug. Imagine my surprise when I found (and bought) a slightly used Toro Turfmaster 30"! Did my first cut yesterday and am well on my way to correcting the ruts, pits and dead areas the landscaper caused. I love the channel! Please keep it up.

This one came up in my "Up Next" feed even though I'd already watched it and I just had to comment to say "You have really helped our lawn!!". We bought a house in 2011 and used some fert (that ended up having a recall) which burned our centipede grass. Got most of it sodded again and hired the company who re-sodded to maintain the applications (we still mowed) - oh and we don't have an irrigation system. The short of it was that company ended up killing our lawn. My husband and I had Jamur Zoysia delivered last fall after he tilled up the old, dead "lawn" (I'm using that term loosely) and we raked up all the junk. We hauled more crap to the landfill than I care to recall. Anyway, we put the zoysia down ourselves and followed your advice on Milo, watering and mowing. We've gone from the worst lawn in the neighborhood to the best. People stop me when I'm out mowing or weeding to compliment us. Thanks a bunch!

My lawn has so many bare spots it's looking like my 10 year old underwear. I'm on a trek to get my yard looking like yours. I have bought everything that you have recommended in your videos, my trek starts tomorrow when I start applying what I have learned from you. Wish me luck. Thanks for the videos.

I like all the tips and tricks. From Canton Ohio, just did my first Milo treatment. Your “the more you mow” graphic, got a laugh from me.

Hi Allyn, you are absolutely amazing at what you do. I can definitely tell that you have the knowledge but all also the passion to back it up. And you help break everything down to its simplest form. It makes learning easy, fun, and rewarding. By the time im done I’m ready to put the theory into action. Thank you for putting out this video. I have a lawn that is about 15,000 Square feet. I like how you said to break it all down to 1000 foot increments. Great job buddy. I’ve been watching all your KZfaq videos and just found out about your podcast. How do I become your student. I want to be you when that guy Walsh taught you trees and shrubs and true green. My name is Robert Pacifico I live in CT.
