Great video! I just ended up buying the Harbor Freight - 600 lbs. trailer dolly for $68 and modifying it so that it would work for this purpose.

The video is good the only thing I notice is that you whip the gun back and forth quite a bit to get a good bead and the reason say that is cause I do the same thing when I'm mig welding but other than that the video was good

What your trick to keeping your magnetic clamps so free of grinding swath? I keep mine in a plastic ziplock bags, but that only helps in storage.
@metalwooddesign
@metalwooddesign 6 жыл бұрын
I brush them off. Compressed air works of course, but I don't like that amount of eye shrapnel in the air. I'm still trying to devise the best way to store them while in use to keep clean and prevent them from grabbing tools and magnetizing them.

I think the way you made the internal axal support and did the blind hole to do the internal welding was brilliant! Where you did the pivot fork (near end of the video) do you think if you are going to use for heavy work it should be doubled up there because it seems like that could be a weak point as you go from square tubing to the forks? Just asking not a critique. Great job my friend now I have to check out your other vids because I love your Fabrication techniques and ideas!
@metalwooddesign
@metalwooddesign 3 жыл бұрын
The pivot could be heavier but it doesn't haul anything bigger than I can pull by hand. Getting a bit weathered out there but still works OK. Thanks for the comment!!

great but will be better, i guess - if you dont show all that unnecessary welding skill with superwhite stricking harmfull light tha shock the eyes - and instead of waste precious time you install the steering mechanism in the rear part of the trailer. im working on a similar system right now for my welding cart but the operator will be guiding the cart from behind, with a 12vdc motor and chain - not from the front of the cart with an axle that could turn 360° and in that way you have better options in that way, you dont have to strip your wrists or turn your head 180° every time you are going straight in any direction or when you are turning, like back in the 1800s. for the stering process you could use a steering scissor system with the axles cut as you did on both ends or in the center, if you like, or use a pulley system with rope or soft cable like the boats to guide your front axle. if you preffer you could go more fancy with an hydraulic system instead its very simple lol

It's for a small trailer like you'd pull behind a lawn mower or garden tractor. The dolly has a fixed hitch pin to attach the wheels to the tongue so it can be pulled around by hand. Thanks for the question!

I dislike the arrogant tossing of the building materials, its like watching a Eastern European build video. I liked the rest of the build though.

I just uploaded another one about a scissor jack lift for the workbench. Those materials are presented more gently on the welding bench. Great comment! Thank you !!!
