We fixed this lawn!
We renovated this back in March 2022 and after 4 weeks it had poor results. We went back to look and then agreed to fix the lawn.
(you can watch the original renovation here: • Timelapse lawn renovat... )
Just 2 weeks after fixing the lawn (scarifying reseeding and topdressing) you can see we now have a lawn that is going to be great!
Sometimes things don't always go to plan. This was the case with this lawn. We will never fully know why this lawn renovation partially failed, and we investigated a number of reasons and possible causes.
Finally, after a couple of hours, we returned and re-did the lawn. Now it is turning into a thing of beauty.
the next couple of months will be critical for "long-term" success. They will need to try and keep off the lawn as much as possible (as the roots are still shallow and young), and continue watering regular to nurse it through hot times.

Great video Shaun, thanks. Well before You Tube days, I had the same results similar to this garden, I was wondering why? 2 reasons, one because the soil was rock hard and had almost zero nutrients, second reason was it was really hot, and only an initial watering so the lawn was patchy and weedy in growth. It was my first attempt, and put me off for 20 years. Now we have you around, I followed your steps and grew 2 new lawns and they are looking GREAT thanks to you, and I can't thank you enough. Your videos are spot on, cheers bud.

Hi Shaun I have a layer pea gravel bed as well which causes compaction. I added 1" layer of lawn soil to my yard to give it some thickness so the seed can root better and then seeded it. It seems to be working out so far , my grass is over 2" tall now.

The question on my mind while watching the earlier (prep) video was "What is the soil quality?". You did an excellent job preparing the surface, but if the soil is as hard as concrete a centimeter down then the results won't be great. It must have been frustrating to see poor results after all your work. Thanks for sharing, warts and all!

Why didn't you just aerate with a garden fork up and down... tiring job but would've probably saved you having to come back and do all this added work.... I'd suspect it's full of bricks and broken concrete underneath which is causing the compaction and needs digging up full renovation with a bulk bag of topsoil job and a skip for all the old turf, this is one of those lawns that'll never be right until you get underneath and remove all the debris.

Excellent work - Cannot wait to start my 1.5 acres of lawn with all sort of issues i.e. moss, giant trees creating alot of shadow, drainage issues etc. But, biggest issue I have I guess must be the boundary wire for robot.. @LawnRight
@LawnRight Жыл бұрын
Hi.. thanks for your kind words! So if you have shaded areas , and seed it, then they will come through but then struggle over winter..because the roots aren't fully developed at this point so in this instance I'd say go for spring.. as for seed and fertiliser you're on the right track seed wise and would need to choose a fertiliser suitable and available in your location. Plus if you are a cool or warm season grass type this could have a bearing on your application times. Hope this helps

Hi something like turfsolv may help. I'd apply it then a few days later apply again then monitor things. lawnright.co.uk/product/turfsolv/ currently there aren't any available pesticides we can legally use so there are on organic options like turfsolv or even nematodes .. apply nematodes ( amzn.to/3xGF0VV ) 2 or more weeks after you see the daddy long legs.. but also I'd dig a square with a spade and inspect to see if you can see any chafer grubs.. if so go for chafer grub nematodes first.. otherwise it's hard fo say why it's not lush green . Could be a thick layer of thatch if it feels spongy and need a scarify,could be drought stress,could be fungus

Hi Shaun I can't seem to find an answer anywhere. I have a Gardena aqua zoom sprinkler on a 22.5msq garden. When seeding how long a time and for how many weeks should I be watering also should it be twice a day or just once? I think the Gardena pumps about 250litres per hour? Of course dependent on the weather but if dry and cool. Like it is now
@LawnRight
@LawnRight Жыл бұрын
Hi ! So with new seeds you just need to keep dampening them for about 2 to 3 times a day for a couple of weeks then slowly ease back to a couple times a week.. just nursing it through the first few weeks. Sorry for the delay!
