Lawrence of Arabia transferred from the British Army to the RAF and arrived at RAF Mountbatten Plymouth Devon in 1925 as T.E.Shaw, he chose this name to avoid the attention of the press that had hounded him from his Lawrence of Arabia service day's
During his time at Mountbatten he would spend weekends with friends in Thurlestone and South Milton, staying in a property Savernake overlooking South Milton Sands and Thurlestone Rock.
During his service time at Mountbatten he worked on the development of high speed rescue launches which would later in Wartime achieve speeds of 40 mph and rescue over 13,000 air crew from ditched aircraft in the freezing cold English Channel and North Sea.
